Arizona vineyards?

Whenever we head to Tucson it's rare that we don't visit Callaghan and Dos Cabezas.

(PHX) Any place to get loco moco?

The only loco moco I've ever tried was from Ma'i Island Grill. It was tasty, the combination of fried eggs and beef is unnaturally good, but I think their grilled chicken is better.

Simply Bread... is simply amazing; but where to find pastries?

Not exactly French pastries, but La Purisima (two locations) makes great Mexican pastries.

1st Taggia; 1st Methode (Scottsdale)

My first visit to Taggia I had mixed feelings about our dinner, but we returned and found a lot to love about the food. They've become one of our favorite restaurants so I'm very sad to hear that they're closing. I wish Seftel wrote when they were closing though.

Macaroons in Phoenix?

They aren't those little coconut things, but two chewy cookies with some sort of creamy filling in between.

Wikipedia has more specifics and pictures.

Macaroons in Phoenix?

I know Essence Bakery makes the French style macaroons, but they only have a couple of flavors and not consistently. Where else in Phoenix (east side preferable) can I get French style macaroons? Is there a bakery that has a good variety?

Mosaic restaurant in Scottsdale- Is it special?

I ate there once and it seemed like only every other course was worthwhile. I'm sure if I'd eaten there more I could probably string together at least an excellent meal.

Review: Taggia (Fire and Sky Resort), Scottsdale

The first time my wife and I went to Taggia we weren't impressed, but since then they've become one of our favorite restaurants. They make some great food there although we've had a few terrible dishes too. If you can look past the occasional dud then you'll probably come to love the place.

Best Phoenix tamale?

The green pork tamales at La Purisima are excellent and you can pick up some great baked goods while you're at it.

Taneko - Scottsdale

I don't know about the critics, but I thought their gristly and tasteless tuna was the worst I'd eaten in a long time. It was amazing how bad the tuna tartare was between the cheap tuna and completely unripe hard avocado.

Good all-you-can-eat sushi places in Phoenix AZ???

I've never been there, but I've heard more than once that Sushi 101 is worthwhile for all you can eat sushi (5pm - 8pm Sunday - Thursday according to their web site).

La Stalla - Chandler

I also had the burrata at La Stalla and loved it with the prosciutto. I was disappointed when they didn't have it as a special the next time I went.

The sabayon is one of our two favorite desserts (the other being the chocolate mousse). The sabayon has consistently been highly alcoholic, not something I normally appreciate for a dessert, but the custard is very flavorful and the berries are usually ripe so it's worth breathing a little fire.

Which Korean Restaurant in the E. Valley?

Takamatsu does a great job, but I think their kalbi is much better than their bool kogi (as with most places I've been to).

Hodori also does a tasty kalbi, but I believe they have the type of decor you're trying to avoid.

Best Onion Rings - Metro Phx

I've never ordered them as a side, but if they're the same onion strings that're on the Texas Twister (open faced brisket sandwich with onion strings) then they're pretty good. Of course maybe I only think that because they're topped with brisket...

Where to find Vosges Chocolate in the Valley?

I would say it's $7 well spent.

Quite a price difference between AJ's and Wild Oats. I picked up a couple bars from Cost Plus and they were $6.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I'll be heading up to north Scottsdale someday soon. Might as well use it as an excuse to hit Zinc Bistro.

Did the Wild Oats at Raintree have the Naga (curry) bar? I would love to have a steady supply of those.

Hopefully you find the bacon bar because I'd like to try it at least once.

phx: welcome diner closed til october, will reopen as welcome diner 2.0

So disappointed to hear they're closed until October; I was going to try to catch lunch there today (even if I don't remember if they're open on Mondays).

I doubt Pete will remove the basics from the menu. I think he just likes being elusive sometimes.

I've been to Taggia twice now and the food has been pretty hit and miss. I do enjoy Claudio's particular style of Italian and when something hits it's usually impressive enough to make me want to return though.

Seftel was saying that the three entrees on the regular menu was "safe", not the entire menu. There are quite a few unusual items on the regular menu, including the burrata.

The Nantucket bay scallops I've had at Binkley's were amazing. Of course it helps that Nantucket bay scallops are great to begin with.
