Best Croissants on the UES?

Ceci Cela makes my favorite croissants in the city. Though they are located down in soho, they do wholesale distribution to a number of places...not sure where on the UES would have them but it's worth finding out!

Locanda Verde - 3x in 4 nights

Going this week for dinner...I recall when it first opened that they were pitching it as a place to share dishes. Is this a solo dish type of restaurant or is this a place to get a couple of courses and share? Anything especially memorable to order?

Is Buddokan a good place to take suburban teenagers?

I think they will enjoy it. Its a really cool looking place and the food is good. It's a bit of a scene at the bar but not as much in the main dining areas. I suggest sticking with more appetizers than anything else. Enjoy!

Afternoon Tea

I went to Alice's Tea Cup on the UE side for a friend's birthday and I think of all the afternoon tea I have had it was most kid friendly and least fancy. It has all of the parts to be a great afternoon tea but I think part of the fun is the fancy feel at a place like Lady Mendel's. Certainly Alice's is worth the price and might be good for someone younger but just not my favorite.

"New York" Italian?

John's is as tired old wrecky as it gets. I recommend Ennio and Michael's for New york Italian. I agree that babbo isnt NY italian, but it;s good. Villa Mosconi is NY italian, although I'm not a huge fan of that place, but some chowhounders have liked it

Swanky NYC eatery for bachelorette party

What about Kittichai in Soho? It's a really nice atmosphere, the food is good and the drinks are great! You can also go before or after (if the season is right) to the rooftop or lounge bar in the hotel.

Best Mussels & Fries together or seperate

I know this is the manhattan board but the mussels and fries at Rouge in the Berkshires are the best I have ever had! The mussels and fries at Petit Abeille in Tribeca are surprisingly very good.

The only thing I ever really liked at WoHop was the Chow fun.

Max branch in Tribeca?

I have been to this Max twice now and really want to like it but I just don't. I have found the food to be really poor quality, the service unattentive and overall not a good experience. It's a shame, with all the good reviews I don't understand why my 2 experiences were just plain BAD (the gnocci, the broccoli rabe and the lasagna were all horrible). What am I missing with this place?

Sidecar on 5th ave in South Slope?

I went to Sideacar recently for the first time after hearing great things about the food and atmosphere. I have to say that I was not diappointed. The service was friendly and the environment was very comfortable. I had oysters and the white bean dip wich were both amazing. I had the fried chicken for my main course and despite neg reviews below, i thought it was juicy and delicious. There's a few kinks that I'm sure will be worked out with time and experience, but overall...worth trying!

Birthday lunch/brunch suggestions

I like Jane, Blue Water Grill and the Odeon for an inexpensive and good brunch which will definitely take a reservation for 6. If you want to go totally off the traditional brunch track, sushi samba has an interesting brunch as does kittichai. Or you could always do Dim Sum at a place like dim sum a gogo which is inexpensive and fun.

Thai for Birthday Party

Kittichai is great if you want ambience and the food is good too although not the typical thai dishes. I also really like Toons in the west village, much smaller but very nice and the food is very good.

Belgian Waffles

Completely second Petite in Tribeca (never been to any of the other locations)! Their waffles are amazing!! I usually opt out of the sauces and nonsense and get fresh fruit on top and powdered sugar. mmm..my favorite waffles in nyc.

Chinese delivery in tribeca

I have been in tribeca for 25 years and am still searching. I find the best to be Baby Buddha, though not great and though a little pricey for chinese, Lili's in battery park is ok.

Favorite Catering Company

I have used Saffron 59, Chef & Company and Mary Guliani all are fantastic. Also Murray's cheese does some amazing platters (which are surprisingly affordable).

Restaurant in NYC for large group

I am looking for an affordable(less than $40 per person) restaurant in manhattan (downtown if possible) that can hold up to 20 people (without charging a set amount per head) and can also accomodate some vegetarian needs for a 25th birthday party. All food types welcome (I eat everything). Any ideas?

Don't Go to Sasabune!

talk about overrated restaurants,,,, Sasabuni the sushi nazi spinoff from LA,,,the fish is fresh, but not much from japan mostly local fish. The rice is too warm and it falls apart. ive been eating sushi for many years and in japan also ,, the sushi chef tells me i cant eat his sushi with my hands i must use chop stick or it will fall apart ,,, sushi rice should be near body temperature, you can cook the fish on Sasabuni's rice its so hot,,,, the chef was actually cordial to us but said it was because noone was around and usually he is mean. It's all part of the act.

Soho Manhattan restaurant advice

Tribeca is closer to your hotel than Soho. Wolfgang's on greenwich st. has possibly the best steak in manhattan real american porter house , Upstairs at Boulez is small place with great scallops 9sounds french but it's not),,,,,Accapella good italian, Tribeca Grill good standby, Walker's is a simple bar with a mixed menu of american favoites, tex mex, burgers, lots of stuff ,,,South's on Church St. good catfish cakes and other things ,,very casual,,,,,,,need to go uptown for bbq ,,or 23 rd street to RUB ,,,,,,, and as american as you can get not too far is katz's deli on lower east side (i'm obsessed),,,

The Palm has good lobster, Francisco's has lobster's up to 30lbs its spanish food but they sell more lobster's than anything else it's not gourmet by any means but the biggest lobster's ive ever seen. ,,, Dock's is good for lobster there's 2 of them one in east 40s and one on upper westside. If you want real gourmet and not just lobster Le Bernadin is pretty amazing,,,,Filli Ponte's has the Angry Lobster it's like lobster fra diavlo

East Village Bakery

Veniero's is on 11th and 1st,, great italian bakery. I'm sure they have bread but the pastries are excellent. The best bread in the city is at Grand Daisy on sullivan st. and Sullivan street bakery uptown.
