Silverlake Ramen?

I walked in one day as the construction guys were working. They had told me they were aiming to open last Friday, a target they clearly missed as I went there last Friday and the place was still not done. I did learn that it's Koreans owning the place so I'm hopeful there is a spicy option. :)

I ate there last night and had the chef's menu. I will write a review, on my blog at least soon.

Best Bar Food in LA

No offense, but I don't see how Lares counts as bar food. Oddly, Ye Olde Rustic in Los Feliz has a large and better than decent menu. Also, I would say that Robin Hood on Burbank Blvd. has the best fish and chips I've had in this city.

Anyone been to Charcoal in Hollywood?

Thanks for the link. I do have to agree, there was a little problem with the service. I don't think it was our server, who was pretty nice and apologetic. I think the establishment doesn't staff enough servers, cos I saw mine moving around a lot, pretty busily, and a little overwrought, though pleasant with my party. I did not try all that many items. We all had burgers, but our server did mention that they came with sweet potato fries. I think the menu should say the same though, to avoid any possiblilty of confusion, or obligation on the servers to begin with.

Good Restaurants near the Mission Tiki Drive-In?

Not too familiar with the Pomona/Montclair area. Any kind of food suggestions are welcome. Not chain restaurants so much though (e.g., Chili's, TGIF, BJs, etc.). Thank you.

Best $25 Steak dinner?

Well, I'm not saying they're the best steaks in the world, but for around twenty bucks, I've been happy so far with La Dijonaise in Culver City and really surprised with what you get for twenty bucks at Saddle Ranch (Universal or Hollywood).

I had a burger with sweet potato fries and a gin and tonic. The place was pretty busy, but all three of my items were good.

Honey's Kettle Fried Chicken

Well, I had posted a topic about Honey's Kettle. I received different responses, like those above. Weekly, I order food for our office, and I decided to throw caution to the wind and make this large order my first try with this establishment, and just make a really big order (about 70 people) from Honey's Kettle, last Thursday, for a Friday morning pick up.

I mainly, only dealt with Vincent, whom I guess was the owner. He was very friendly and helpful to me. Now, about the food:

*Biscuits - pretty much the most decadent restaurant biscuits I've ever run into in L.A. They taste like they already had butter and honey on them, though you also get more of both.
*Chicken - Admittedly, I am more used to a crumb-like or breadey breading, but I have to say, I did like the breading. And every piece of chicken that I had, was nice and moist. And mind you, I had an order of about 160 pieces, that I did not even taste until I brought the chicken back to Santa Monica.
*Catfish - This was equally good, and as well as tartar, they offfered a piquant and spicy dip, that I preferred.
*Hush Puppies: These were satisfying, but did not hold up as well, for the drive back to the office. Perfectly acceptable, but I bet they are much better hot and fresh.
*Salads: I find personally, that about 95% of all mac, potato salads and cole slaws are not worth even eating. None of these were the best I've had, but they were all good, and therefore better than most. And to consider they did all three well, says something.

Best fish and chips?

I was just kidding about the tartar sauce bit. I just wanted to see if anyone would get riled about stupid snobbery. Ketchup on steak, it is!

Chicken Breasts

Hmm. I know what I saw in the market, but I don't have that with me.

Bacon: 140 mg of cholesterol from one pound.

Chicken breast: 65 mg for 4 oz. (x 4 to equal bacon's one pound weight, above) = 260 mg.

Best fish and chips?

I don't go out and get this a lot, and the best I have had is at Robin Hood on Burbank (panko breading?), but what is the best, and why? If you eat your fish with tartar in lieu of vinegar, no offense, but you may be unqualified for this question. LA, only...

All right, that came out wrong. Anyhoo, Palms Thai (which is very popular, blah, blah, blah...) does have Thai Elvis, which is pretty damned cool.

Chicken Breasts

Why do people love them so much, when they taste like corrugated cardboard? Would they still eat it, if it was as bad for you as bacon? Also, I recently read the labels for bacon and chicken breasts (at the market), and noticed that per pound, there was more cholesterol in skinless breasts, than for bacon. And mind you, that would be before the bacon was cooked, in which case, much of the elements of bacon would be rendered out. I am assuming that you readers know that cholesterol and fat are two separate things. What's up with that?

Best Steak in Los Angeles?

No good steak at all in L.A.? Not even on my own grill? This is totally depressing. I wish we could be as good as other places. I wish I could be as good as other people in other places. So sad. Now, I need a nap. Is this one of those, only the best is good, and everything else is crap things?

Has anyone in L.A. eaten at Slim Pig 'N's

There are two. I've been to the one in Redlands twice. Was pleased with their ribs, home-brewed root beer, and their sweet potato fries (with sugar). They have rhubarb pie too, which is not easily found in L.A., as far as I know.

Thanks.

Chinese BBQ on the Westside

Possibly at Hop Woo's on Olympic and Sepulveda (in a strip mall). Not sure about the sausages, nor intestines, but they do have the ducks hanging in the deli. They also have suckling pig, if ordered a day in advance, if memory serves.
