Seville Oranges?
Ah. Thanks, Kathryn. It isn't until these summer months that I am able to tackle these projects and I should have researched that minor point. No wonder. Thanks again.
Seville Oranges?
Does anyone happen to know where I can find Seville oranges in the city? I need them to make orange bitters and would rather stick to the recipe, which calls for Sevilles, the first time I make them (it?). I cannot, for the life of me, find them in Manhattahn. I saw some at Fairway YEARS ago and literally not since.
Vintage Recipes
Hi there--do you recall where you saw the Ox Marrow pomade recipe? Believe it or not, I am actually researching this for a project...thanks!
Homemade Curry Powder-- Help!
Thanks for all the suggestions-- I am wondering if it is indeed the turmeric that is making the whole thing bitter. I was trying to make an Indian curry powder, so yes, perhpas I will get some trusty turmeric from an Indian grocer.
I am not toasting the whole spices as I thought it was recommended that the powder be heated also. Back to the drawing board or to the bottled stuff.
Homemade Curry Powder-- Help!
I have been making my own curry powder of late yet cannot remove the bitterness whenever I use it in a dish. I combine turmeric, fenugreek, cumin, and a couple other things. I know it is recommended that the powder be cooked or heated before use but I am wondering if perhaps I am burning it? If so, it seems to turn bitter rather fast. Any other ideas as to why this might be happening? Thank you.
Refreezing defrosted seafood?
Oh thanks so much! Yes, am fully prepared to add the seafood to a stew or some dish heavy on sauce so as to disguise any texture issues. Thanks again.
Refreezing defrosted seafood?
Does anyone know if there are actual health dangers if one refreezes seafood that has been labeled as thawed when purchased? Is bacteria essentially refrozen back into the flesh and difficult to kill thereafter? These tough economic times have forced me to look at food in a new way and the definition of what I used to think was "too old" or "bad" has changed since I am not currently working and cannot spend as freely. I think seafood like shrimp and squid can be a good value and an alternative to unhealthier proteins but I cannot always cook it immediately, especially now that I buy in bulk. I am not so concerned with great texture as, alas, I now see this is also a luxury I cannot always afford. I don't want to get sick however!
Best Seafood Markets/Stores in Manhattan/BK?
Yes, not only are they not knowledgable at the Whole Foods--hardly professional. I bought whole calamari there once and the young man behind the counter scrunched his nose in disgust and asked me how they were cooked! Hardly instilled confidence in them as a market, swore not to go back. Thanks so much for all the great suggestions.
Best Seafood Markets/Stores in Manhattan/BK?
Thanks Ann! And they have a variety of seafood?
Best Seafood Markets/Stores in Manhattan/BK?
I suffer a debilitating fear of buying fresh seafood in Manhattan and wondering if folks can recommend the top purveyors of retail seafood in the city or Brooklyn? Perhaps I have read too much Bourdain but can never bring myself to buy mussels or clams though I am dying to use in several recipes. I bought bad shrimp from the Whole Foods on Houston-- so done with them. Any recommendations?
Need Cheap Family Eats in Atlanta
For pizza, I would recommend Fellini's. There are several locations, including in Buckhead, not too far from you I think, on Peachtree.
New Yorkers in Irving/Las Colinas for lunch
This request for restaurant suggestions from a crew of five New Yorkers is similiar to others I have seen posted so apologies but we need to stay in a certain neighborhood for business in Las Colinas/Irving,TX next week.
We can't really travel so any suggestions for a good catering or delivery place for a casual --but business--lunch for less than 10 people? I am trying to keep the (picky) clients happy so good but not too expensive is the key. Barbecue recommendations would be great. Is Sonny Bryan's Smokehouse more like a fast food chain? I can't tell...from Brooklyn. Picking up for take out is also an option!
