COYS!!!!
HOAGIES
I have to say I was very disapointed in Silvios. The bread may have been ok but the meats were cheap. This might run into the Boar's Head v Dietz and Watson argument. But domestic ham, then the fakey hot ham (instead of real hot coppa) and a really mealy salami. I could not even finish a half and tossed it. Every bite was bland and doughy.
I have been holding this in forever not wanting to ding a place that so many seem to love. But I just don't get it.
New Diners, Springfield, Delco.
You know I had forgotten about that. I had them make Pastrami hash once. I think the problem is in my mind there is a difference between a Diner and a Jewish Deli. Even though the menus are effectively the same. Thanks for the reminder!
Out of Town foodie on a SERIOUS budget
Go down to Washington Ave. between 12th and 9th. Pick any Vietnamese Pho shop, or Banh mi house. Enjoy ;)
New Diners, Springfield, Delco.
Stopped by Liberty for breakfast a few weeks ago. It was solid, nothing spectacular. All the regular dishes at the same prices as any other place around. they did have eggs benedict which not everyplace has. The potatoes were ok.
I have to say that watching DDandD with Guy Fieri makes me lament the state of diners around here. No specialties, no pizazz, no signature dishes.
For example, I love corned beef hash but I have yet to find a diner around this area that does not serve it from the same communal can. I was out in CA visiting family at a little dive coffee shop that had been in West Portal in SF for 60 years and order corn beef hash. It was so obvious that it was real homemade corned beef mixed with fresh potato that I wanted to move home immediately.
Sycamore BYO, Lansdowne
We went for the first time last night. It was amazing. Wife had frisee salad and the Tagine. She said it was incredible. Coming from a girl whose dad is from North Africa, I think that is pretty high praise. I had the Charcuterie plate and the crabcakes. The meats were very good with some nice twists like the homemade chicken pate and the steak. The crabcakes literally fell apart as I ate them because of the complete lack of anything besides fantastic crab and seasoning. They disappeared quickly. My oldest daughter had the pancetta, onion, and chevre tart and the short ribs. Her comment was that the chef should come and cook at our house. At 7 I will not kick her out but that hurt. The littlest one, 3, ordered the sausage mac and cheese. Unfortunately too sophisticated for her palate so I shared it with my wife. Only mac better in town is the a la Peggy at Bistrot La Minette.
Desserts we equally impressive. Banana Banofie, crepe and an apple crisp. We always share our desserts. We barely shared last night. There were that yummy.
The room itself is warm and inviting. The servers were friendly and very accommodating especially with our picky eater. The only downside is that service could be slow at some points which is less of an issue if it was just my wife and me. But with two little girls that can cause some impatience.
It's a BYO so their wine list is of course only as good as your cellar or nearest State store. But I did try the Bloody Mary with the Vodka I brought. It was spicy and tasty, not too salty with a nice kick.
We will be back soon!
Bistrot La Minette
I add my kudos here. We have been here many many times. Each time better then the last. Not only is the food wonderful, but the service has been amazing. Highly recommend it for a romantic dinner or a birthday party with friends.
Proposal Dinner
Tinto is very good. Basque though. For a wonderful experience go to Bistrot La Minette, they have been wonderful for all out special events. Tell them before hand what you plan and they can help you with someone wonderful.
Call to Action to all Philadelphia Foodies: Looking for 3 others to join me at Amada, Sat October 24th.
I would be interested if you ever try to set this up again. Need a little more notice. But would totally be up for it and meeting other hounds!
Butcher Recommendations in NE Philly Area?
Ok this one is a bit of a drive. But not to far from the north east, go out red lion till you get to the county line area in hatboro/horsham. Then go to http://www.illgsmeats.com/ for the address.
It is out of the way. But they make all there wursts themselves. Smoked stuff I had never seen before. I have to tell you seeing a six year old devour an entire smoke pork chop is pretty awesome. Any Offal you want they can get. Remember they butcher their pigs on wednesday so order monday or tuesday for wednesday pick up. Nothing fresher. I have been using the bellies for bacon and pancetta. Awesome.
Any great hole in the wall restaurants?
Hosteria Da Elio on 3rd between South and Bainbridge. Started going there 11 years ago and never stopped. I can't remember ever ordering off the menu in that time. Just leave it on the table and let the wonderful waitresses tell you the specials.
Any great hole in the wall restaurants?
Picanha definately is BYOB. I have been going there for years. Just watch out for the pig ears in the black beans! yeah, that authentic. Tummy saying time to go again soon.....
Great California and Japanese cusiine in SF
What about Kappa?

Kappa Japanese Restaurant

I need a turkey!
They may have parts but not likely fresh unfrozen whole. Defrosting a whole turkey for cooking tomorrow maybe difficult. There was a recipe for cooking parts separately and reassembling for presentation. Get a breast, a couple of drumsticks and some wings and arrange on serving plate.

Food similar to the Halal Guys on 53rd and 6th in Manhattan.
Never been to Halal Guys but I was born in Manhattan a bit early for them. Have you tried the Oasis Market in Oakland. They have 2 spits and multiple skewers for kabobs with lavosh and fresh made pita. Found by RL.

Chili (cheese fries) in South Bay
That was for 12 months. Under date you have a choice to extend the search. Pull down and select 5 years and search again. You will see the added threads.
Chili (cheese fries) in South Bay
Actually if you search "chili cheese fries" with the quotes you only get 2 pages of hits going back 5 years. You will have to decide which are close enough for you to drive to.
Fun/funky bar near 13th and Spruce?
I know about Dirty Franks, so anywhere else? Prefer a real bar, not a restaurant with a bar. It's been a long time since I lived down there and I have a bunch of friends who just moved into the area around DFs. But going to DFs gets boring after a bit.
Thanks
hot dogs from jewish delicatessens
Hymie's in Merion has a special on the menu. I believe it was pastrami wrapped, perhaps kosher salami. Sorry. It's been abit since I had it.
Amada or Tinto????
Amada for charcuterie and fun drinks. Tinto seemed like it was richer food, and the ciders are awesome. They are both amazing. My one complaint is the seating downstairs at Tinto was uncomfortable.
Philly - Italian Market
Claudio's Mortadella is awesome. The best is a good baguette, a couple slices of the mortadella, and a nice spread of their Pesto.
Cocktails at Amada
My favorite there is the Rosemary lemon martini. Go down fast.....
Best Pizza in Delaware County PA
Yeah, I agree. It is great. It is all they do. The ingredients are fresh, the toppings are real and the tomato sauce is home made. Great pizza!
Has anyone been to Coquette lately (2009)?
I have been dissapointed here lately too. Walk and extra block to Bistot La Minette for super french food. No raw plate though. I am not downtown much anymore, has Samson street Oyster reopened?
