where to get flours for bread baking in East Bay?

I have watched the flour truck unload 50 pound bags of Central Milling unbleached organic at the San Pablo Bakery. It is available from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007...

or if you prefer 2 10 pound bags are available at Costco for about $13.

(green, probably) vegetable to serve with quenelles?

Apparently asparagus was good enough for Julia. Especially with the pencil thin ones I have seen in the market this week.

Fish for gefilte fish

I made mine with rock cod from Monterey Fish. They were kind enough to also provide the rest of the fish for making stock.

Best Chinese Almond Cookies

I always get my Old Man Cakes at Modern. I am sure they have almond cookies. They are very busy and everything is fresh. Check before you cross a bridge.

I like the rolls at Ba Le El Cerrito but a large order might overwhelm their tiny kitchen. Check with them.

Almost as good as the Bowmore write up.
Tasting Notes by John Hansell, Malt Advocate

...What I think impresses me most is how the whisky evolves. On the nose and palate, this is a thick, viscous, whisky, with notes of sticky toffee, earthy oak, fig cake, roasted nuts, fallen fruit, pancake batter, black cherry, ripe peach, dark chocolate covered espresso bean, polished leather, tobacco, a hint of wild game and lingering, leafy damp kiln smoke. Flavors continue on the palate long after swallowing. This is what we all hope for (and dream of) in an older whisky!

Catch Red Bank Chowdown

I believe creek should be capitalized.
"Despite what M-W says, the remark was first said by Benjamin Hawkins, q.v., and the phrase should be correctly written as 'God willing and the Creek don't rise'. Hawkins, college-educated and a well-written man would never have made a grammatical error[*], so the capitalization of Creek is the only way the phrase could make sense. He wrote it in response to a request from the President to return to our Nation's Capital and the reference is not to a creek, but The Creek Indian Nation. If the Creek "rose", Hawkins would have to be present to quell the rebellion."
