LOVIN' Hard Knox.
i was hoping for a soup, salad, maybe entree place. casual, ya know, it will have a chicken dish, steak dish, seafood or fish dish, a few salds and apps.

American/ california cuisine in the Richmond
Hi and thank you in advance.
around the teens and 20's off of Geary, is there any good "non ethic" food in the area. i love what i have found but sometimes I just want a good salad or basic cuisine
Hooters to open in Saugus, MA
I am a woman and I LOVE Hooters wings. no, they are not the BEST WINGS EVER!. but Hooters wings naked are YUMMERS!. I have always enjoyed hooters but I have no "issue" with it. I find that alot of women feel like they might as well be dragged to a strip club.
Victoria's Diner
they just opened a new place across the street: the Hen House. Chicken and waffles.
James Hook is OPEN for retail!
they have been open for retail at that location since 5 days after the fire...
Visiting San Francisco 4 1st Time...Major Foodie!!! Need Help!
hi
I live in Boston now. formally of SF...LONG time ago...but on my visits there. maybe Globe??? I have No idea how it is felt from current SF peeps, but it reminds me of a B and G or Stella.
I actually second Taddich grill
might I recommend the Union Street area as something similar to the South end.
I have not been to Fog city in a long while but kinda like a Dinner and Pops combined?
Beatlenut is like Pho Republique but MUCH much better
where did we eat? (Back Bay)
Bouchee comes to mind.
certainly not Brasserie Joe. what kind of building? large? brownstone?
Dj's near the Garden. Any reports?
and I have NEVER received a response from the manager.....confirms my feelings
B Side?
yes. and in response to the first post I called and they are very much open. just a BAD rumor. Unfortunitly at this point enough people read that post and since Chowhound took it down so fast after my confirmation, people are not going to know it was just a BAD RUMOR> THEY ARE STILL OPEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
maybe the team can leave this up for 24 hours so this bad rumor can be put to rest?????
Dj's near the Garden. Any reports?
So I went last night, pre concert. I thought the place was full but too packed or too busy. I could easily walk around. they kept the same lay out!.
So , in short on the food: GREAT! very good. Had a turkey burger, ribs, the Cadillac burger and a few other items all very good, even if the server forgot cheese on one or the other.
the service: AWFUL. to a point that this is the email I wrote them:
Hello,
I went to your place last night based on reviews of the great food, friends recommendations and based on your sister place the Junction.
The place was busy as it was Pre-Concert, however it was not packed, I could easily move around freely.
There were four of us and two arrived 5 min. ahead of the others. When we arrived we waited 25 min to be greeted at the table. Then when we were, there was no hello just a fly by of our waitress dropping menus off at our table. Another 15 min. 'till she bothered to remember us and got our drink order, did not offer to take our food order (as we had been sitting there almost 45 min at this point, we had ample time to decide what we were eating). Another 10 min to get the beers. Another 20 min to get her back to take our order...to which she made a mistake and certain things were left off that we had asked for. I would have loved to bring this to her attention, however not once did she or a manager come by to ask how everything was. Had this happened I would have informed her and had the food made correctly, in the way it was ordered. Not to mention it is incredibly obvious when a medium rare burger has been sitting in the window for some period of time.
This was all laughable. I did not want to fault her. I don't know if her section was too large, if staff levels were off that night, was it her first day?? I don't know. I know that for whatever reason she was so awful and never was there a manager present to address this issue with her or the table, or even jumping and help her out. It was obvious to those in her section that she was seriously struggling and a simple look at the faces in her section could have signaled to a manager just how unhappy her entire section was. To a point that other tables were talking to each other about just how bad her service was.
The final straw however was that of the 4 of us two had ordered Guinness. And then we watched them sit at service bar for over 30 min. I was almost to a point of just walking over to the service bar and getting them myself, however one of my dining companions was uncomfortable with me doing that as none of us want her loosing her job. I tried to explain that there was no manager on the floor who would notice, so I doubt she would have been fired. What bothered me more is that the service bartender never once said " hey, these have been sitting here for a long while, some one run them to the table".
So when we were presented with our check the Guinness were STILL sitting on the bar. We told her she could take them off since she never delivered them. She was puzzled, and unapologetic. And then walked over to the Guinness and looked as it dawned on her that she never took them to our table. Not an apology just another 10 min to get a correct check and another 20 min to get her to run it(at this point I did walk up to her at the POS terminal and hand her our credit card)
I don't know if I am more disappointed in the server or the lack of a manager on the floor to actually recognize that she was struggling, that there were unhappy customers, or that a pair of Guinness had been sitting there for well over 45 min at that point.
As I am in this industry, I know I would really like to know if a situation like that happened at my establishment. I would have liked to bring it to a managers attention, however only when I was leaving did a man in a yellow polo shirt emerge from behind the scenes. And at that point the check had been paid, the horrible service had completely ruined any possibility of redeeming the establishment. And I was eager to move on to a place where I could receive a Guinness in under 10 min before going into the concert. I found such s place...down the street.
Im hungry rite now!
I am in the mood for breakfast or lunch at a place where it will not be crazy busy so I may be able to read the paper with my coffee after the meal and not feel the pressure to get up as soon as I am done eating cause there is a line out the door. In Boston please.
Calling all hounds: Angela's Cafe needs your help!
I thought I would add on , instead of starting a new post.
We went there last night. Ok, Negative first. COLD COLD COLD> there are not large enough caps to express HOW COLD IT WAS. Note to self, NEVER again in winter. they did have like 4 space heater, but seriously. when every person in the joint(except the kids) has not only their jacket on but scarf and hat. COLD. and OMG when that door opens. I swear I almost went out and bought then a heavy velvet curtain for the front door.
COLD COLD COLD>
other negative. it is on a corner. not at 131 Lexington actually. passed it. so newbies beware. for a moment I thought I was going to some ones house for dinner
ok
FOOD: fab. so delis!.
We ordered the guacamole, which was a bit on the salty side, but really fresh and good. I am a Californian so a good avocado is a treasure out here.
Had the chicken Falutas. LOVE. they were not fried, so especially tasty and flavourful.
I had the Mole. I thought the flavour was amazing. so rich and good. however almost a bit too much sauce for me.
Brother ordered the red chicken enchilada. He thought is tasted great, however was not spicy enough for his taste, but otherwise agreed it was some of the best Mexican
DC had a steak special with some AMAZING pepper saute thing. looked like sauted spinach but was all peppers. WOW>
This place could use a heating system and perhaps a beer of two to offer.
otherwise, once the weather is warmer I am sure to RETURN!.
Victoria's Diner
Everytime I go I do not see the Turkey dinner.
I freaking love this place. i can not rave enough for diner food in Boston. Mikes is awesome but the longest lines.
afternoon tea- L'espalier vs. The Bristol
I've done all three, 4 if you include when it was the Ritz.
I would go with L'espalier. It will be the most satisfying by far. The brownstone, see if you can get a window seat, and options are great. stuffy, a little, but they leave you alone. I like that
I LOVED the Ritz but I find the Taj to be lacking in the character of the staff. The old Ritz staff for tea was amazing. I remember being there for tea on a day with over a foot of snow. we were two of maybe 5 people there. one lady could not get her car out, so the server asked us if it would be ok to leave us while she took the lady home and another server would take care of us. THAT is the Ritz. I feel like the Taj is going thru the motions because it has to.
Bristol is not as nice in my opinion. You don't feel indulgent or particularly like there is anything special. that is my opinion.
All three serve great options, and expect a sugar high and caffeine high. BTW, if there is something you really like, ask for more, they will bring it. Ya know if you want a few extra cucumber sandwiches!
L'Espalier
Could not agree more with the above. I believe it is often the expectation that is poor, not the experience.
When does the move happen? I want to go before it does. I'm going to miss that brownstone
HELP, FAST recs for casual quarter rest.
Hi,
We are here and it is raining! So we dont want to walk aimlessly looking for a place.
Good, obviously, but not dressy. we want casual. I hear good things about boyona and stella but they are more biz attire, were thinking more jeans and a button down or sweater.
HELP...were getting hungry!
Thanks in advance
Boston rest. for 12 teenagers
What day of the week? Time of night?
I do not particularly like LTK but it is an option and can handle the group. 3 blocks away. cool and modern I am just not into an atlantic fish co that does not stick to good atlantic fish, but overall I have had good lunches there.
Luckys is all american bar/comfort food, fun, close by, live music. minors are generally ok till 10.
I love their food.
is there a price point you want to stay within? If you go down atlantic ave there are some great options, like Sel le de terre.
No one here much likes Beehive food, but the atmosphere and music and fun is great and unique.
another great meal at Victoria's diner
Nope. not cold. Get it togo and take it home or back to work.
What is going in the Penny Savings bank?
Clif is going to NYC or is already there, not too sure. He will be around to consult on a case by case basis here in Boston but is moving to a place where the concept of Mixologist is a real things and valued.
Often what I find here in boston regarding mixologist are that the owner, manager, gm, customer, whatever does not want to wait for that drink.
I know one of the issues he has is if his drinks have 6 things in them, that takes too long here in Boston. Impatient!
Boston Coffee Roasters
did you email them to see where they may distribute in the area?
Boston Coffee Roasters
there is a place in southie called PS, they only have like 5 flavours of beans for sale, but the italian roast is awesome!
another great meal at Victoria's diner
any guess WHO bought it? I was thinking a couple of south enders since some of the new items are very bistrot?
another great meal at Victoria's diner
I saw that. a WAY better alternative to late night eats at south street diner. I like south street, but talk about always leaving feeling gross and greasy.
Thanks for the liberty comments, i have actually always wondered about that place.
strangly one of my fav. shepards pie is from a little deli rite next to vic's inseide of 1010 Mass ave.
another great meal at Victoria's diner
I must say i love this place, even though I often forget about it.
Went there Monday night, not in the mood to cook.
I have always liked what they did with the decor' after the remodel a few years back. Although I would have picked out different upholstery for the booths. However I am DYING to know where they got their light fixtures from. anyhow, went in and like always greeted by a friendly waitress.
seated promptly, although there were quit a few people in there for a Monday night. Ordered quit a bit of food. New menu.
I am thrilled they have a milk shake, that was always my main complaint before, what diner doesn't have milk shakes!!???
I ordered the coffee Oreo shake, YUMMY, my fav combination.
I split a caeser salad. Nothing to write home about, but standard and solid.
Ordered breakfast, cause I could. had the California Benedict. I really like there Benedict sauce, very thick and heavy but buttery. It came with tomato and asparagus, which was fab. I ate the entire thing.
I am not a huge fan of their home fries, I like onions in mine.
the only thing I disliked, was they took my fav item off the menu, the thanksgiving dinner!. yes, exactly as it sounds. that was always my fav thing to order!
If you have not been, or have not been in a while they just changed the menu a bit and are offering alot more options. any place that serves breakfast all day makes me happy.
good diner style service, friendly, informal, good food, many menu options, and feel comfortable there and will return.
does anyone know the deal? was it bought? is that why it is changing?
