Where are the best dill pickles in the Twin Cities?
They change from year to year, but I have enjoyed the State Fair winners that Gedney's has produced. (Not sure of a better way to describe that setup: Gedney's works with the blue ribbon winners from the MN State Fair to produce pickles according to their winning recipe, and then distributes them to grocery stores. Jams, too.)
Although they do not publish the exact recipe, it helps to know that these commercially-produced pickles rely on ingredients that are available to home cooks.
Any old fashioned ice cream parlors out there??
This is the thread on Lynden's:

Where to take some visiting Food Snobs?
Really? Good tip about Murray's before 6pm -- I never knew that!
Where to take some visiting Food Snobs?
My budget has room to dine at Murray's only on a milestone like a 30th wedding anniversary, so I wouldn't put others on the spot for that kind of expense.
If you get through the visit without kicking every one of your relatives in the shins, you will have earned your place in the annals of family hosting. I raise a glass to you, Kunzieo.
"Burch"
When the place is actually open and people have a chance to try the food & drink on offer, there might be something to say.
Suggestions for Large Group in St Paul?
There are many degrees to which people of faith practice the strictures of their faith, and so there are many degrees to which people observe kosher in their everyday lives ... particularly outside their own homes.
I'm no expert, just sharing observations of my acquaintances who take a very practical approach to preventing the mixing of meat and dairy when there's not a fully kosher kitchen nearby. Some stick to dairy-free cuisines while others rely on meat-free restaurants, either of which gives some reassurance that the surfaces, utensils, dishes, etc. have not been used for both.
Deeper details or more nuanced debates might be found on Chowhound's own Kosher board ... there's always something to learn around here somewhere!
Suggestions for Large Group in St Paul?
I've known people to address kosher requirements by choosing a cuisine that doesn't use dairy.
Little Szechuan on University Ave. doesn't have a private room, but does have several large round tables and could probably accommodate 25-35 people ordering at the same time better than many other spots will.

How Do MSP restaurants compare to Chicago, Dallas, Miami, San Francisco Rests??
Assuming that Chicago's restaurant scene consists of more than one kitchen, can you say a little more about what you mean?
What to order at Saffron?
Oh wow oh wow. I have to get back there. Thanks for that inspiring list!
Bug in Suggested Threads Feed
In the meantime, the regional boards like Minneapolis St-Paul are getting thread replies that read like non-sequiturs and add nothing to the conversation. Shall we continue to report them so that the discussion maintains some kind of value?
Sea Salt opening Friday March 30th at 11:00 a.m.
Shhhhhh! The City Pages announced an April 6th opening. If we're weally weally qwiet, maybe we can get a soft-shell crab sandwich before the dinnertime lines grow too long.
Lynden's Soda Fountain in St. Paul
Walking out of The Nook last weekend, I noticed that lights were on and construction was happening in the space next door that used to be Kopplin's Coffee.
The windows are painted to announce Lynden's Soda Fountain -- ice cream, shakes, malts. Maybe the posters looking for an old-fashioned ice cream shop and traditional banana splits will have another fine option soon?
A quick internet search shows that City Pages scooped the news last week (pun intended).

No word on whether ice cream will be made in-house, but there's so little square footage that it is really hard to envision.
Devil's Advocate - What's the deal?
Doesn't seem like enough to go on for making any kind of a judgement about the restaurant itself.
I say this as someone whose written attempts at humor fail even more spectacularly than my live attempts, and whose ability to recognize that failure before I hit the "Send" button is just as bad as ever.
People are human, that's all.
Looking for a place that sells and roasts green coffee beans
A good first try would be Coffee & Tea Ltd, in Linden Hills, which roasts its own green beans. They may not be able to do custom roasts for you, but might be willing to sell you some green beans to roast yourself.
Minneaplis suggestions for family of 5
Where in Minneapolis are you staying, and will you have a car?
mole verde?
Let's expect a recipe conversation will get moved off this regional board -- shifted to the Home Cooking board rather than deleted outright if you are lucky.
Back on topic for Minnepolis/St. Paul: iIt sounds as though there is one source to purchase green mole retail in the Twin Cities area. Have you run across suggestions where to find it in a restaurant besides el Norteno?
Friday Fish Fry - where is the best one?

Moving to Minneapolis
Visitors & chowhounds with direct experience of NY Jewish delis -- even a glatt treif one like Cecil's -- have been known to disagree sharply with one another on this claim.
There are many thread mentions on both sides, but my plan right now is to set down the keyboard and run for cover.
Return trip suggestions
FYI, cash only at Colossal. I hope they still offer coffee by the press pbt.
Also, Las Teresitas is perhaps a half-block from Al Vento. Very nice Mexican food there, if yo are so inclined.
Live Lobsters?
Walk into the Grand & Snelling location of Coastal and go straight to the back of the store so that you are facing the coolers. The lobster tank should be to your right, at the end of line of glass cases. Granted, I haven't been in to the store very recently so if they took it out, I may have missed it.
Live Lobsters?
Restaurant or retail? Coastal Seafoods in St. Paul sells live lobsters from a tank. Jax in NE Minneapolis used offer "pick your lobster from our tank" on their menu; don't know if they still do..
MSP james beard semifinalists local rundown
Up at the top of Bachelor Farmer's online menu, this sentence displays:
"Our appetizers start at $7 and our entrées range from $17 to $27."
MSP james beard semifinalists local rundown
Thanks, Soupkitten! Appreciate the historical info, especially about previous winners now nominated in different categories.
MSP james beard semifinalists local rundown
Very cool! Soupkitten, I know you keep up on stuff in the chefosphere better than most of us -- is anyone/anyplace else a repeat nominee besides Sameh Wadi?
La Belle Vie - Tasting Menu Gluten Free?
That is terrific news, and judging from the menu it was a terrific result, too!
Thank you for following up here on the board; it is really helpful to know one way or the other where such accommodations exist.
Fun place for B-day dinner for 15 yr old boys
Have they hit that stage where they can eat until you can't quite believe it anymore?
If so, consider Fogo de Chao. Good party energy, maybe not the most spectacular cuisine but still quite tasty, perfect for a group of happy hungry young people,
