Calgary Restarurant Closures - Say it Ain't So!!

I mean "Restaurant" and "establishment". Best to nip this in the bud before the typo police attack.

Calgary Restarurant Closures - Say it Ain't So!!

Does anyone know if Olives has closed its doors for good? The website is down.
Secondly, I walked past St. Germain earlier today and saw a letter posted on the door. It appears to be from the landlord's lawyers and mentions unpaid rent and the landlord exercising its right to re-enter the premises.
I hope neither establisment has gone out of business as, in my opinion, they were both important members of the Calgary restaurant scene, particularly in the East Beltline - Victoria Park area.

Looking for Portuguese dining in Calgary - more than Mimo

Just returned from two weeks in Spain and Portugal and was blown away by the local cuisine - particularly in Portugal. From top restaurants in Lisbon to hole in the wall spots in small villages it was always fresh, tasty and great value. Will be going to Mimo soon to try to recreate the experience (which is never possible no matter what the cuisine). Their menu is very focused on seafood. Many of the most memorable meals I had in Portugal were meat based (particularly pork) so I'm wondering if anyone knows of any place doing Portuguese food with a focus on hoofed critters. Obrigado.

Venues around Bankers Hall - afterwork social

Given the size of your group and your budget, I would recommend The Unicorn. Great pub food, very friendly staff and lots of experience at hosting work groups. They have a patio if its a nice day and a number of semi-private areas downstairs. I work nearby and my office frequently has post-work gatherings there. Another place to consider in new. Its The Libertine, next door to Flames Central in the old Henry VIII space. Went there twice and enjoyed it. Learned later that it is owned and managed by The Unicorn folks. More of a restaurant than a pub and a little pricier but good patio and food.

Southern Style Fried Chicken in Calgary

Checked out the website and will definitely give it a try. One question - does anyone else think that the photo of the grilled chicken on the Our Menu page looks like a person sleeping on his side with hands tucked under his head? Maybe I've been working too late.

Looking for food and jazz in Seattle

Thanks very much to all who replied. We had great meals at Wild Ginger, Lola, Zoe and Waterfront Grille and heard some fine jazz at Triple Door. You folks are blessed with many excellent restaurants and prices are quite reasonable even with the less favourable exchange on Canadian dollars. Hope I can respond in kind with advice to any Chowhounds visiting Calgary.

Looking for food and jazz in Seattle

Visiting Seattle for a convention and staying downtown for 4 nights. Have booked Lola's, Zoe and Waterfront Grill for business dinners but looking for something non-business for Saturday night and for jazz/blues venue. Have heard of but not visited Dimitrious. Any suggestions?

Looking for Italian restaurants near but not in Calgary

Any suggestions as to good Italian dining in towns close to Calgary - Canmore, Banff, Bragg Creek, Okotoks etc.? We want a drive in the country followed by some good Italiano cucina.

New Olives Restaurant in Calgary?

John Gilchrist's article in the Herald on June 29 mentions the upcoming opening of a new restaurant called Olives in the Arriva condo tower on 12th Avenue SE. Does anyone know if it has opened yet and, if so, does anyone have any reviews?

Fathers Day Brunch Calgary

Any suggestions? I know the brunch topic has been raised before but have looked back through a few pages of topics and haven't found the old discussion. Does Victoria's still do Sunday brunch?
