New York Kimchi (Midtown West)

The downstairs room is open for dinner with a something-for-everyone Korean menu; looked like a slight Midtown premium in prices.

Kang Ho Dong Baekjeong – Finally Good Korean BBQ In NY

Great report, thanks! More good news: They say on Facebook that they're opening "this spring" in Manhattan K-town ... http://www.facebook.com/baekjeongnyc

The street address is 319 5th Ave., the same as Kyochon's, but I figure they may be taking the upstairs space where Pan used to be—same address, entrance around the corner on 32nd.

What happened to Casablanca in Bay Ridge?

Walked past on Sunday; still closed. A handwritten sign inside says a new business called Rabat Fast Food is "coming soon."

New York Kimchi (Midtown West)

Thanks; will check it out sometime.

Slightly off-topic, but has anyone tried the newish buffet inside KumGangSan on 32nd? It's a Manhattan outpost of Janchi Janchi, the takeout-catering business that the owners run in Flushing—and an answer to WooRiJip, with takeout stuff, steam table plus sushi/kimbap counter. Here's a brief from Midtown Lunch ... http://midtownlunch.com/2014/03/27/ja...

Quiet Saturday Supper near Grand Central

Haven't been myself, but if I were after a nice dinner in that area, I'd consider Vitae, which has been on my list for some time.

Noodles for pad see ew (phat si io) in NYC?

You're right, Kong Kee on the corner closed. The owners reopened a block or so west (http://www.kongkeefood.com/contact-us/). Here's Dave Cook on this shop: http://www.eatingintranslation.com/20...

Patina African Restaurant

Thanks, NYNH! The banga soup's terrific and filling, with the complex flavors you describe and a ton of tender stewed goat (I got it with plantain fufu). Tina, the chef and proprietor, is sweet and helpful with menu questions. She even brought around an extra bowl of that sauce. I'll try the spinach stew next time, maybe a fish roll or an order of kebabs, too.

Fairfield County, Ct.

I agree that the Manhattan board's already busy and daunting enough without adding posts from every suburb and exurb in the greater metro area. That may not be what makko's asking for, though. This might just be about where Fairfield County appears on the list of Chowhound boards: currently under New England instead of New York Area. Parts of northern New Jersey could make an equally valid case to be moved into the New York orbit.

But I'm skeptical of the claim that 99.7% of site users in the New York metro area truly want Fairfield County, CT, listed with New York, or even care where it's listed, as long as the board for each locality is easy enough to find and bookmark.

You might call Orwasher's and see if they're still selling it for a few days after they said they'd stop. If not, Zabar's might be a worth a shot, based on the earlier posts.

Halal food in NYC is disappointing

>Sorry New York but you don't know anything about good Middle Eastern food.

Appreciate your weighing in, but your opinion might carry some weight with locals if you named the New York restaurants that disappointed (other than Karam) and explained exactly how.

Kopiaste - Astoria

I called about this and was told that they'll replace some meat dishes if you prefer; one of the two zucchini apps could be a possibility. But there aren't enough meatless options that aren't already part of the meze combo to sub out all nine non-veg dishes—at least without repeating seasonings or burying you in variations on cheese or similarly dressed salads.
