L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon has announced to close...

>After June 30, New York will be sans Robuchon, which eight (or eleven by next year) major cities in the world has...

As you know this is a very competitive restaurant city. I suppose the NYC-centric view (which I don't really share) is summed up in the song lyric: If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere. There's no corollary that says if you can make it in eight major world cities, you can make it here. Different cities, different tastes.

Changing face of East 6th Street

They say they're moving down the street and reopening in June at 320 E. 6th St.

visiting NYC - question about reservations, and itinerary check

>Sakagura sounds great! I'll look into it more. How vital are reservations?

Not very, in my experience, though it wouldn't be a bad idea, especially on a weekend. The staff is generally pretty knowledgeable about the sake list, which is still the best in town as far as I know. But I've had better experiences at the counter. And look first at the seasonal offerings listed up front on the menu. You'll find good choices there, though some will be pricey.

Drinks, but not a club scene.

Mary Queen of Scots, mentioned in that thread, has closed. That's one reason "just do a search" isn't always the best answer. Fresh info is always a good thing ... http://ny.eater.com/archives/2012/05/mary_queen_of_scots_calls_it_quits_after_18_months.php

Fava beans fresh or frozen on the Upper West

I've shelled them fresh, I've tried frozen preshelled. There's a noticeable difference, especially if you're going to just briefly steam or simmer them. I'd suggest no shortcuts in this case.

London 'Hound seeking list refinement, advice and tips (bit long)

>I think it's a shame that they are serving red snapper for their fish curry. I do my best to avoid overfished fishes like red snapper and Patagonian toothfish ("Chilean sea bass").

Agreed on that score.
