High tea in and around Austin?

I haven't personally been, but have heard great things about Bawdsey Manor in San Antonio. I could not find a website for them - but did find an article/review from Southern Living -

Hidden Kitchens/Kitchen Sisters

Listening to NPR this morning I heard the new series Hidden Kitchens in Texas, produced by the kitchen sisters. Stories of eateries and cooking in Texas.

Thought you foodies would appreciate it!

No more jager bombs and vodka redbulls!

Yes!! I also highly recommend Dred at the Clay Pit - Yes that is his name and it fits him perfectly! He makes the best Manhattan in town! I have also had great luck with Four Seasons and the Driskell for traditional cocktails made to perfection.

Louisiana Swamp Thing and Crawfish Festival 2008

The one I had a few years back was very good - not greasy, plenty of sweet crab meat. Not sure if it was a different vendor that what is typical.

sticky black rice available in austin?

Whole Foods carries black rice - which is also known as forbidden rice. Not certain if this is what you were looking for!

Louisiana Swamp Thing and Crawfish Festival 2008

I went a few years ago and there was a divine fried soft shell crab po-boy. I believe we waited in line for about 25 min though.

Stay Away from Satay...

Was starving Saturday evening after running errands around town with my boyfriend. We needed to pick something up from Grapevine Market so I thought - Lets order food from 'Satay,' it's good, local, and we're just getting noodles. Boy, what a huge disappointment.

First off, it took the very confused girl at the cash register forever to even notice me and her attitude of 'I'd rather be anywhere else but here' started everything off on a sour note.

We simply ordered Dumpling Lovers ($7.95/5 assorted dumplings), Pad Thai with tofu at $9.95, and their DWI noodles with beef for $9.95. We were then off to Grapevine Market to grab some goodies while our food was being prepped. On a side note - the service at Grapevine Market's cheese counter was horrible - but that's another topic! After 15 minutes - back to Satay. I was told by the same girl that the food was not ready then was then ignored for the next 10 minutes. During this time another worker came out and dug through the part of my order that was ready - opening each container - checking them even though they had been labeled and bagged already. Strange. Finally almost 1/2 an hour after placing the order, they were not busy and it wasn't Pecking freakin duck, our $30 dollar order was ready.

Back to the shacket for the unveiling... WOW.
Dumplings: dry, small, 2 out of the 5 were downright nasty, and they of course were cold. We had had better from the frozen section at MT Market.
DWI Beef: This dish consists of "Flat rice noodles stir-fried with your choice of meat, broccoli, tomato, onion, Thai basil leaves, Thai chili pepper and sweet soy sauce." First off the $10 dollar dish filled only half of the Styrofoam takeout container. The mass was obviously overcooked, sticky, dry, and contained a sprinkling of beef and overcooked broccoli. The flavor was nice but my poor boyfriend was left hungry and not satisfied with his meal.
Tofu Pad Thai: Generous $10 dollar portion and nice flavor, but nothing to write home about. Although Pad Thai might be considered a boring dish, I have a weakness for it when it's done correctly. A dish that should be a strong staple for an established restaurant like Satay.

I have yet to post a review on this site; usually just chiming in on other posts. I felt like this was a deserving place even though the owner is a wonderful person who really brought a lot of attention to the Asian culinary scene in Austin. My boyfriend reminded me that he had 'fired' Satay years ago - now I know why. We'll stick to Thai Kitchen, Chon Som, and Ka Prow for our Pad Thai and other noodles from now on...

The End.

Parkside

Their website has no menu posted - but I was able to email from the address listed and they provided a menu. I haven't tried it yet - but their raw menu looks very good!!

Ranch 616?

Ranch 616 - It's been a while since I've been and last time I was not impressed.

I am hoping it was simply an off night...there was a band playing, the place was packed, and we had a 10 top... which is pretty large for a place that size.

Other than one bad experience my other past visits have been great - definitely cool deco and the fried oysters are my top pic - along with their top shelf on the rocks margaritas!

Good Luck!

Teji's Indian in Round Rock

After reading all the great reviews by best friend and I hit up Teji's last night for some takeout...we loved it! They had run out of Samosas for the evening, next time I'll call earlier to make certain I get some. The food was fragrant, flavorful, and overall fantastic!

Thanks again everyone for the great recs!

Guanciale in Austin

I know that Mandola's - the winery location not the triangle - are making their own charcuterie. Do you happen to know if they are making their Guanciale in house?

Brunch help - Moonshine, Eastside or Threadgills

I also really like Blue Dahlia Bistro on the East Side - if the weather is nice their patio if perfect for Sunday brunch and they have a nice veg selection...

Where to buy Pork Bones?

You might try Lee's Meat Market over by Kirby Lane, the owner is very helpful and can probably you what you need! Also - there is a pork vendor at the farmers market on Saturday's at Republic Square Park - he might have pork leg bones...

Good Luck!

curd cheese

You can sometimes get cheese curds from Whole Foods downtown. They are made by Rogue Creamery and are white...

http://www.roguecreamery.com/

Like previous posts mentioned you will have to look at them closely since they sometimes are mushy from sitting for too long.

Good Luck!

does anyone know where I can buy boquerones?

Whole Foods downtown also carries them at their specialty counter - in fact they just got some fresh ones in a few days ago.

Oakville Grocery in the Domain?

Whole Foods will be opening in the Domain - but I think it will be another year atleast. Oakville is much smaller and has things like prepared foods, cheese, wine, and charcuterie.

Freshest Fish in Austin?

Some of their items are frozen - which is always stated - but most of it come cold-packed and fresh!

Freshest Fish in Austin?

Responding to the post about Whole Foods getting their fish from quality seafood. They in fact get most of their seafood from fisheries owned by Whole Foods or local vendors.
