Moscow Airport
Hello,
I have a short layover on my way from New York to Tel Aviv. What can I eat in the Moscow airport? I did a little research and my two top choices seem to be: Uzbechka and Elki Palki. I also would love to try Kroshka Kartoshka [Крошка Картошка].
What do you guys recommend for specific items? I will probably take something "to go". I am not familiar at all with Russian cuisine or with Uzbek cuisine. I am only interested in trying dishes that are authentic and traditional or authentic and contemporary.
So far, I look forward to a stuffed potato, honey pie, sharbat and lagman. What are your favorites?
Thanks!

Visiting Brockville and Prescott
Hello All,
I am headed to Brockville for this weekend. Any updates???? I schedule my activities on vacation around meals....
Thanks!
la Grenouille today!
I have a reservation for this afternoon and my friends have canceled at the last minute!
I have been really looking forward to it but is it ok to go alone? I don't want to.
Anyone free?
Lol

Restaurant de Glace Pommery from January 6th 2012 until March 31th, 2012
Excellent meal on February 5. Pics and details to follow soon. Definitely recommended.
Roobius, entrance to the park is FREE if you have a restaurant reservation. Also the diner to my right was a vegetarian and enjoyed his meal. It was freezing cold this weekend so the other problems that you mentioned were also non-existent. I didn't see a menu so I have no idea what the prices are like and can't comment on them.
Vermont- Killington, Rutland and Mendon
Thanks Everyone! I had read about Roots and Table 24 on Tripadvisor. I will check out the other places.
Keep the suggestions coming. I am going next weekend.

Vermont- Killington, Rutland and Mendon
Hello,
I would like recommendations for great food in the Killington, VT area. I am a foodie from New York City and my friend is a foodie from France (who lives in Montreal). So our standards are pretty high....
Local food would be ideal. Doesn't have to be fancy. Within about a half hour from Rutland (where our hotel is) is ideal.
I am also interested in great local places for snacks, regional items, breakfast, etc.
Brownie points if you know a good place to try things like "hasty pudding", "switchel" or cheese or stuff made with maple syrup. We will have a refrigerator so we can get things from the local market for snacks.
Thanks!
Christmas Eve dinner in Guatemala City
Hello,
I am staying in zone 10 for one night before heading out to the countryside. I arrive about 2 pm from NYC. What are my options for a good traditional meal on Christmas Eve?
I am willing to take a cab or bus or walk from where I am staying. Will anything be open? It simply has to be good and authentic. I don't need fancy or even sit down.
Item suggestions are welcome as well.
Thanks!!!
Brown bread in a can
I got a can and read on the side that you can fry it or bake it or toast it so I am going to prepare for my next unsuspecting visitor.
Would not return
I stopped in on my way to Syracuse from Boston hoping for a nice Sunday evening meal. They didn't have any of the things that I wanted from the menu. The service was unfriendly and slow and the atmosphere was uncomfortable. Nothing like other diners I have ever been to.
I had to eat something so I ordered from a cabinet a leftover piece of apple pie. I asked for it to be warmed and it was given to me still ice cold underneath. The taste was fine but the temperature differential made for really unpleasant eating.

Saturday breakfast in Albany
So, I stopped in on my way from Syracuse to Boston. There was metered parking right out front and plenty of seats available. The service was fine. I sat at the bar which turned out to be a bad idea because it is impossible to get your place anywhere near you because of how the edge of the bar is designed.
I had hot cocoa which came in a cute glass mug with a handle but was not good. I added Splenda.
There are a few items that were not on the website so be prepared to have a few more options to choose from.
My choice was the "Roasted Berry Crepes". It was okay. I added some salt.
The best thing about the restaurant is the bathroom. Hands down the nicest I have ever seen in a similar facility.

Brown bread in a can
I found a can easily at a supermarket and took it to my friend's apartment to add to her breakfast spread. No one was willing to try it....
I still have the can so I will fry it up for the next person to come to my apartment and let you guys know how I like it.

I have noticed that. I used to love huge portions. Now I get full more quickly. Also I think that first few bites of food taste the best.

Wait? Grape nut PUDDING? Where do I get that? I have googled and it seems that there is a place in Harvard Square that makes it called Mr. Bartley. Looks like a custard that contains grape nuts. I hope to try it.

How do you do it?
I alternate between eating what I want and eating a very restricted diet. I also exercise and almost never drink calories unless it is for a special item or a vacation. I have a tiny frame and an average metabolism but a ravenous appetite and an absolute obsession with food. My genes are not that great either as both of my parents and one of my sibs are all overweight.
Are you just blessed?
Do you limit portions?
Do you workout alot?
Come and share your secret.
When Thanksgiving and its customs are foreign to you
I agree with the other people who are confused by the phrase "madness of Thanksgiving". Honestly you would hardly know that the holiday existed if you were not very observant. There is no madness surrounding it at all. Especially when four weeks before there is the spectacle of Halloween and four weeks later there is Christmas. Thanksgiving is absolutely madness-free. Even compared to Easter or Valentine's actually. Perhaps you just feel left out. Just ignore it. I never know when it is Eid or when it is Chinese New Year. Just live a regular Thursday and give thanks to your boss for the day off.....
Brunch near First Avenue/51st and Third Avenue/18th ?
50 and 1st the first thing that came to mind was Financier's at 54 and 1st but I don't think that is the sort of place you want.
One of the best brunches I have ever had was at Aquavit. 55th and Park so a little farther away but definitely worth it. I get tired of the pancake and egg brunches so this was perfect for me.

Just Returned from Paris...
Ladies, ballet flats are all the rage in Paris and they are sometimes cute enough to wear to a mid level restaurant. BUT, they are NOT comfy for long food crawls. Be forewarned.
Freedom Trail dining
Thanks. The end of your post was very helpful. That is all I needed. Some suggestions.
Will report back if I make it to any of these spots.
Freedom Trail dining
It is a very easy question. If there is something on the trail that you love just name it. No need for detailed explanations of what I want.
For example, "the X at restaurant X is my favorite in Boston. They are a little pricey and all the way over on X street."
Very simple request actually.
And, I said, I am not from Boston and don't know any neighborhoods and will be accompanying three people who are also not from the area.
Thanks anyway....
Brown bread in a can
Yes. That is where I discovered this and huitlacoche and black chicken other bizarre foods that I should already have known about....
Just Returned from Paris...
For the guys:
Everyone told me that they can spot an American tourist because of his weight. French guys (20s/30s) are generally in great shape and very well dressed.
Well tailored dark jeans are fine but not when your female companion is properly dressed. I hate to even see that in the US. Drives me crazy....
Please also avoid the white sneakers and fanny packs and water bottles. There is no where to use the bathroom so I don't know why we go over there and drink gallons of water in the street anyway....
Freedom Trail dining
I have no idea. I was just informed by my friend that we are "doing" the Freedom Trail.
But if there are amazing places along the trail anywhere, it would be wonderful if someone could name the restaurant and what he or she loves to eat there.
Freedom Trail dining
As I said in my post, I saw that thread and wanted to know what people consider to be their favorite items at Galleria Umberto as well as other specific places. That thread is filled with long lists that mean nothing to me as a visitor.
Favorite places you've lived outside the USA?
Jamaica! Perfect weather. Amazing fruits. Food with flavor. It was a great place to live.
Best Supermarket In USA: your nominations
The Wegman's in Dewitt New York has a decent international section. I buy German sweets for my nieces and Indian seasonings for myself. I have gotten Asian and Eastern European and Israeli products there as well. They have an okay Latin American/ Caribbean section too. They even sell the best soft drink in the world (Ting). I could not believe that. I ran into a Guyanese woman once who marveled with me at the fact that they had banana leaves (which we use to make dukunu in Jamaica). Their strongest point is their cheese selection. I am a big cheese fan so that really puts them over the top for me. Also, having grown up mostly in Brooklyn, it fascinates me to see such a large supermarket with so many unconventional items.
Freedom Trail dining
Hi,
What is there to eat along the Freedom Trail. I looked at another thread and saw some great recommendations for Galleria Umberto on Hanover street. What is your favorite thing to eat there.
Anything else? Please be as specific as you can.
Best Late Night Menu (post 11pm)
So, quite a few places are open late. Which ones have GREAT and/or unique or local food? I am from out of town so I don't recognize anything on the lists. I will be between Woburn, Boston and Auburndale.
Thanks

+1 for Wegman's in Dewitt New York. Obviously I haven't been to every market in the country but I know that Wegmann's is great.
