de Mole.. in Astoria.

From what I remember from two meals there a few years back, it was very good, not so much "Americanized" or neutered as it was upgraded: authentic flavors filtered through culinary-school technique. Manhattan, maybe, but crappy it wasn't if memory serves, and I recall some interesting specials.

I love me the tacos campechanos from El Grill Athens and the gorditas at Cruz Mexican Deli, but refinement isn't (always) a sin, y'know?

de Mole.. in Astoria.

A place called de Mole--which I'm assuming is very much connected to the place of the same name deep in Sunnyside--is going to be opening in the former Melodia space on 30th Ave and 43rd St. in Astoria, across from Key Food. A new awning went up a couple of days ago and it looks like there's some furious renovation going on behind the brown paper on the windows.

Is this a second location, or are they moving to get in on the gentrification-fueled brunch boom that's been gripping 30th Ave. lately?
