Where to find Conch?

what's the difference between conch and whelk flavor or texture wise. Just curious, I've only had conch twice before.

Braised Beef Tacos

Looking for recipes or recommendations on braising beef for tacos. Cut of beef? Braising liquid/spices? I've never made this so consider me a newbie. Also, not looking for anything that will be wildly hot, more on the mild and flavorful side.

Thanks

Second Date - tasty but not too pricey

I'd recommend Silvertone in downtown crossing then walk to the north end or seaport for drinks. Silvertone is reasonably priced and the food is great and the place has a cool vibe.

Where was the first date for reference?

Any recommendations for foil pack dinners for the grill?

My mom always made these in the summer. In the foil packet she'd place a chicken breast, carrots and potatoes (both cut into long wedges) and canned cream of mushroom soup then would put them on the grill. They were delicious.

Swordfish recipes

I'm fortunate to live in an area with a good fishing fleet that goes after a lot of swordfish, so needless to say it's fairly cheap and we eat it a lot. Does anyone have any good recipes for either swordfish steaks or kabobs. We mostly just cover it in mayo and grill it. Any and all suggestions on how to change things up are welcome. Thanks.

June 2014 Farmers' Markets, Farm Stands, CSA updates

Can anyone recommend a good farmer's market in the greater boston area on a Saturday or sunday. One with a lot of vendors. The one in my town (Wilmington) is nice but a bit small. Willing to make the trip to another town if it has more vendors and variety.

Not sure if he'll be there every week. Last year he was there every so often, maybe once a month. My guess is this would be the same scenario.

I was at the Wilmington Farmer's Market this past weekend and he was there sharpening knives. I got mine sharpened, also got him to do mine last year. He knows his stuff and does a great job! I completely trust him with my knives.

Tew Mac Tavern, Tewksbury

I think Rocco's is a great suggestion, the food is excellent. I've been to the tew mac tavern a few times for lunch and then for a few private functions. For the private functions the food is typical banquet food. The food in the restaurant is good, although my sample is limited to sandwiches, they do have an excellent lobster roll and the room is very nice.

Basil Issues

Thanks for the help everyone. I pulled them out of the pots and replanted, hopefully they spring back. As a safety measure I'm going to plant some more just to be safe.

Crappy Wings Over Arlington...

I've always have liked the chicken bone. They do a good ratio of sauce to wing while keeping the chicken wing crispy. The boneless wings aka chicken tenders are really good. The thermonuclear sauce is no joke. I've been going there since it was a divey biker bar and I think they are some of the best wings around.

Narragansett/Del's Lemonade Shandy in Boston

I think the gansett lemon flavor isn't as overpowering as the leinekugel. You can def taste more beer in the gansett one.

Basil Issues

To preface this I'm in the Northeast and have always had great success with Basil growing in my garden. I planted two weeks ago two basil plants, they came in those biodegradable soil pots that say you should plant the whole thing in the ground. I did this and now the plants are wilting and not looking good. It isn't a bug or anything getting to them that I can see. The one thing I think it might be is the soil/biodegradable pot they came in not letting the water drain into the surrounding soil. The reason I think this is the rest of the garden will be dry and the area where the basil is within the pot is still very moist. Could the basil be over saturated with water? Has anyone had similar experience with those types of plants/pots. Do you remove from the soil pot or just plant it in the ground?

In my book Casey's takes first place in this category. An incredibly well done simple burger. I highly recommend getting it with grilled onions.

Lawrence-Andover-North Andover Eats

I've been for drinks and had a few appetizers. The atmosphere is good and the bartenders were good with a solid drink and wine list. I can't remember what we got for appetizers but they were good. It's on my list of places to go back to. The only downside with the bar is when they have live music it gets very loud, especially at the bar where the musician is three feet away from some stools. It's also a bit pricey but that was last summer so maybe things have changed.

Peeling a hard boiled egg

what's the quickest way to peel a hard boiled egg. There has to be something quicker than waiting for it to cool and cracking it with a spoon and peeling it off with my fingers.
