Black Lobster, Salem

First time there, Sunday afternoon. Sceptical when we entered the empty dining room. Folks outside on the deck though. Service not great but when I bit into my fried clams it brought me back to the clams of my childhood Best clams I've had in years. Better than clambox, woodmans, farnhms, belle isle. Ive had them all. They came to the table hot, light and crispy, huge bellies. OMG. Cant wait to go back for more. Haddock and scallops also very good.

Belle Isle Seafood

Hands down, may favorite seafood shack. We truck in there at least 2x month, even in the winter. Love, love, love the baked haddock and the scallops.

Capital "Connoisseurian" dual fuel range

A digital Thermo couple. Well, I did the Pillsbury biscuit test. Said cook 8-11 minutes @ 400 degrees. I preheated the oven for 30 minutes. Even though my oven thermometer read ~ 360, The biscuits came out perfectly at 11 minutes. I'm going to remove my oven thermometer and not fret about it...at least for a while. It will always nag me...

Capital "Connoisseurian" dual fuel range

I have a brandy new Capital duel fuel range. Have concerns. The oven temp can appear to be 25-50 degrees lower than set, I doubled checked w new oven thermometer and confirmed this. Had the appliance repairman come out and take a look. The thermometer he used to check the oven temp was spot on. I don't get it. I cooked a pan of TJ pumpking bread (from a mix) yesterday and although it came out PERFECTLY it took ~ 10 -15 minutes longer to cook. On Splendid Table podcast Friday interview w master baker. Said best way to check oven temp is to bake some Pillsbury biscuits (which have been highly tested). Follow package instructions and if undercooked oven temp too low. If that's the case should I call the repairman out again to reset the thermostat or whatever they do to fix this??????????????

Xmas Eve Venue

Can't host Xmas eve dinner for my family this year b/c of kitchen renovation. No one has stepped up to the plate so we have to go out. Want to stay close to the Wakefield area, casual. Maybe pizza and salad, moderate expense. Any excellent pizza in this area or other ideas? There will be 6-8 of us.

Anyone been to Phuket in Wakefield since it changed chef/owner?

Have been to Red Sugar a few times, but its rarely open! No set schedule, which is annoying. Nice folks though. Food at Phuket is way better. Have had my eye on Massimo's. Will give it a try next time we walk down town for some chow.

Week 2, days 6, 7. Dust is beginning to settle. Agreed on ceiling to the roof w one skylight. New windows are in. GC rehooked up the range and put in a temporary sink. I was able to cook something this past weekend!! Still living on sams, salads and fritattas. Hubs looks like he's losing weight

During a kitchen renovation....

Days 4 and 5. More demolition and problems revealed. Holes in the sill that need plugging. Window guy didn't send all the windows. Fighting over whether we should have a 9 ft ceiling or leave open to the rooftop to showcase the beautiful brick wall. Eating is not as problematic as Not being able to cook and bake which I love to do. We're on top of each other in our little makeshift kitchen. Still surviving on salads and sams. GC rehooked up my oven and put in a temporary sink so I can do a little cooking this weekend. Love him.

During a kitchen renovation....

Day 2. More surprises. Roof held up by flimsy 2x4's. Will need to re-structured. Cha ching. Electrics may just make code. Let us pray. At least 3 animal nests. Eeeew. Had pizza and beer at my sister-in -laws house w hubs my older brother and 3 nephews. Laughed more last night than in the past 3 months. A great stress reliever. On to day 3.

During a kitchen renovation....

Day 1. Ktchen is an empty shell. Door walled off w zippered plastic. No dust in the rest of the house...yet. Ceiling had 3 layers of material!! wood, tile and horsehair plaster (1780 old house). Use to be a door to the bathroom from the kitchen. Amazing what you uncover. Got take out greek salads our first night. Had to wash cups/silverware in upstairs sink. That will get old fast. Need to figure something out there. :/

Have been once. They took 2 of my favorite things off the menu. Fresh rolls and salmon salad. Got the seafood salad which was VERY good. I really miss my fresh rolls though. Place is still empty of customers.

Market Basket-Items no longer carried?

Couldn't find that new pickle variety they started carrying before the standoff. They were amazing. Reading store.

Market Basket, Thoughts

First time back to the Reading store since the revival. Walked in before opening @ 6:45 am and was welcomed w big smiles from the mgt staff. Of course I had the place basically to myself at that hour. The store was IMMACULATE. Everyone was cheery AND the fish counter was stocked by the time I reached it. When does that happen in ANY store at 7am? Plus haddock is still on sale for $4.99/lb. Cooked it up last night and it was fabulous (as usual). When I was checking out I noticed that Arthur T was on the front page of my Globe. I pointed it out to the cashier and she rallied the other cashiers who began high fiving each other. Still celebrating. Fantastic!!

Help me plan my Lobster Roll Quest of NE Mass, Coastal NH, and SE Maine

Where is the other Petey's? I know the one on Rte 1 in Rye w a rooftop deck.

The best (non-tourist) seafood restaurants in Boston proper, please.

I wouldn't go out of my way to go to Moultons in the burbs. I highly second Belle Isle seafood. NOT fancy. Paper plates, outside deck overlooking the water and large portions of incredibly fresh fish. Would definitely put that on your radar.
