Pickled tomatoes, anyone?

I love the pickled cherry tomatoes at the Pickle Guys (Essex just below Grand).

NY Propaganda tour

Kate's Joint on Avenue B at Fourth Street:
http://www.menupages.com/restaurantdetails.asp?neighborhoodid=0&restaurantid=4921

offers what I can only describe as "junk food" vegetarian (pseudo buffalo wings, meatless "fried chicken," etc.) in a lively east village atmosphere. It is certainly not gourmet, but fulfills two of your requirements (cheap, large portions) and is a fun way for a vegetarian to experience some American diner-type food (whether or not that will help your campaign is probably open to debate!).

LES with kids?

Thank you so much, everybody! Those suggestions are all superhelpful...

LES with kids?

Trying to think of restaurants in my nabe to take two lovely and sophisticated little girls, 7 and 10, and their parents, for either lunch or early dinner. Was thinking along the lines of Apizz, Schillers during the day, maybe Congee Village, but am otherwise stumped by this whole kid thing, and any suggestions will be most gratefully received. Would the Orchard possibly work? Also would be delighted to get suggestions for kid-friendly restaurants in the vicinity of the Met Museum...I was thinking Cafe Sabarsky?

umm, your front page has turned me off food for life?

Yes, I'm sorry; I didn't really mean to bash the midwest, but I was so repulsed by the piece on "hotdish" (primary components: tater tots and cream of mushroom soup, and possibly hot dogs?)which at one point was on the front page of the site that I reacted rashly. Much disgusting food is consumed in America; do we really need to celebrate that?

umm, your front page has turned me off food for life?

...it's really gross and midwestern-oriented (cream of mushroom soup? minnesota?)...and your design is super clunky and unintuitive.
good luck!

Wine shop on LES?

It's spelled De-Vino, I believe, and they do have a great selection of italian wines...

LES/chinatown border

Just wanted to mention Kuma Inn on Ludlow between Delancey and Rivington and Falai on Clinton. And I second the recommendation for Casanis: the menu (and the interior) are uninspiringly generic, but the food is really well-executed (or at least was when I last was there a few weeks ago).
