Toronto's Best Chicken Wings

Went to Gabby's on Bloor. Would not go back for wings again. Wings are dry and skinny. Crown and Dragon is the way to go if you are downtown(Toronto).

7 yr old daughter looking to try lobster in TO

Just get them fresh from any supermarket "that sells fresh seafood". Diana seafood or T&T will do. Steam them or boil them at home, it's your preference whether to serve them with butter or not. You don't need fancy restaurants as long as you can get fresh ingredient.

Marinated Bocconcini

Is this recipe for mozzarella or bocconcini?

Lion and Dragon pub in Pickering

Thanks for the information! I'm glad that they are still around. I was surprised when I first heard that the plaza where it used to be is gone. :)

Lion and Dragon pub in Pickering

Is the place closed down already? Or did it move somewhere else?

Thanks.

Restaurant Makeover - Silent Killer?

There is a more complete list of the "victims" from restaurant makeover. However, to be fair to the hosts of the show, some restaurants got on the show for a quick facelift, some other didn't really know how to run a restaurant, and some other just didn't pick the right location to have the right kind of restaurant.

So for the most of them, if they are already successful, they didn't need the makeover at all.

Hollinger's Closed

That's pretty sad. I used to go there once in a while. I love the prime ribs there and the atmosphere. The owner is nice and I like the Jazz bands every weekend. I wonder how they are doing without the restaurant now.

Damn another RM curse.

MUCH better than MANY OTHERS like Duff's and St Louis. St Louis is always a hit and miss. I even tried the Duff's in Buffalo, greasy and dry, yuck. I just don't like wings that are dry, small and skinny.

Just give it a try, as well as their ribs. Their roasted red peppers are good. So does many other flavours.

Big Ragu is out of business already?

Their food is indeed overpriced with their quality and service. The last time I went, I actually brought two friends with me and thought I can bring them to a nice place to hang out and eat. At the end I felt so embarrassed because the service was incredibly slow, it took at least 30 mins until we got the bread which is pretty bad, cold and tasteless. An hour later after we ordered we finally got our main course which had an incredibly small portion. Did I mention the beef was so chewy? One of my friends is a girl who has really small appetite, but she can finished her pasta literally in 5 bites.

I felt so sorry bringing them there and I would not go back for sure.

Big Ragu is out of business already?

I loved it the first time I went. However the last time I went, which was last summer(2007) already, I found that the food and service were not up to the standard anymore. I was trying to find if I am the only one feeling this way. I actually found this review somewhere on the internet, which I pretty much agreed to. I didn't go back so far..

Restaurant Makeover

It's pretty sad to hear that. The business must be rough for him. I see he has been struggling with it before and after the makeover.

Restaurant Makeover

Passed by Citron on Yonge over the weekend. Found that it closed down already. Another RM curse?

new restaurants - yonge sheppard area

Poor couples. I wonder how they are doing now. On the show they mentioned they are on load for everything... including buying the business from his brother.. and the cost for the makeover.

new restaurants - yonge sheppard area

Adding Citron on Yonge.. and Quattro4Ragazze on Danforth

I would like to try it out... is it closed down already?

Where to get sausages in GTA?

Anyone tried Yummy Market on Dufferin? Are they any good?

Duff's wings...not quite duds

I don't know.. maybe I did? There were tons of people there during the event. Everyone were so busy enjoying different flavors at different booth. :)

T.O. Steakhouse Quandry

Ops I didn't mean it in that way. But I agreed that the Keg has better steaks than CC. :)

T.O. Steakhouse Quandry

Cuz there is no comparison at The Keg for pork chop? The Keg doesn't have pork chop on the menu...

Duff's wings...not quite duds

It's a casual pub with friendly service. There are families, couples and younger people who would go. There are also darts players who gather there playing darts regularly.

Duff's wings...not quite duds

Sadly the best that I tried is not located in Buffalo. They are from the south in Florida. They are called Hurricane Grill and Wings. Fiddle Inn is from PA. And another one called World of Wings(WOW), however they are franchises all over the states so I am not sure if they can keep their standard everywhere.

Duff's wings...not quite duds

I have to disagree with you on Duff's. Their wings "were" good, but hardly the best unless you have tried every single places. I went to the Buffalo Wings Fest last month(in Buffalo) and I tried Anchor Bar's wings too. If you were in the fest, you would know that even Anchor Bar's wings are so-so.

It is only fair to compare the wings plain without sauce first, then try again with the same type of sauce(eg, medium, hot, etc.) Duff's wings are a bit dry with the skin without sauce and their "hot" sauce is more like sour sauce. Way too much vinegar. There is almost no flavor to it beside sour taste with all the vinegar they put in.

If you REALLY REALLY like vinegar wings, dig in. Otherwise, I would go for The Lion & Dragon Pub and Wild Wing(in Barrie, not sure about other chain.) Lion & Dragon Pub might not be well known. But this is a hidden gem in Pickering which makes me go all the time even though I don't live near the area. Did I mention they have generous portion too? Big, juicy, fresh wings and flavorful sauces.

St.Louis Bar & Grill Ribs?

Like I said. I compare them base on plain wings without sauce. Taste and preference really depends on different person. I did try to give as much detail as I can. How much more fancy can you talk about with plain wings, besides size, freshness, juiciness, taste and price? I avoided using words like "love", "don't like" when judging different restaurants because they are just personal taste.

It's just my own opinion, if the plain wings are great, they would be best with any ordinary sauce. If the sauce are great, it can make a great camouflage for most mediocre wings.

St.Louis Bar & Grill Ribs?

Thanks magic. I will give it a try next time I go to Miss. You gotta try Lion & Dragon Pub in Pickering if you are around that area. I don't live near there but I just couldn't help going back for wings and beef ribs!!!!!

St.Louis Bar & Grill Ribs?

I agreed with you, their wings are dry and overcooked. And I tried them at different locations too(Yonge/Ajax/Woodbridge.) I don't go to St Louis anymore as there are a lot of other restaurants with much better wings and ribs. I only put it to the bottom of the list just because this is a St Louis thread, didn't mean they are good, at all.

St.Louis Bar & Grill Ribs?

At first I thought St Louis and Duff's Wings are good. After 6 months of my "wing tour" with friends and tried numerous wing places in both America(Buffalo) and Ontario. I have to say that St Louis Wings are mediocre, among the competitors.

I ranked them base on the same way how I order my wings - plain, sauce on the side. So I would know the quality of their wings, how well they cooked them, and the taste of the sauce itself. Sauce can cover a lot of flaws.

1. Wings in Buffalo Wings Festival, which hosted by the best wings restaurants/pubs(Most of them are superb, I won't list their names here since it's a Canadian board.)
2. Lion & Dragon Pub in Pickering (good size, moist, fresh, flavorful, GREAT price.)
3. Wild Wing in Barrie (good size, moist, fresh, flavorful, LOTS of sauces to choose from)
4. Duff's (good size, fresh) - Dry and plain without sauce, it's better to order covered with sauce.
5. All Star Wings (nothing outstanding, so not much to comment)
6. St. Louis (try with plain and get sauce on the side and you would know how dirty their oil is. Not to mention they are very dry without sauce.)

I'm still in search of new places to try out. You might know other great places that I haven't tried yet. I would like to know if you can suggest any great wing places.

Please try them all for yourself before you question me... I LOVE wings... so I would like to share the good stuffs with the fellow members here as well. :)
