Filipino BBQ KAbobs in los angeles?

There's plenty of restaurants to choose from in Eagle Rock: Nanay Gloria, Toto's, Arko, etc. I'm not sure of places in the Hollywood area. Good luck with your search.

I need Filipino food!!

Hi Cooperkid2, I feel your pain. I have yet to encounter a Filipino restaurant that matches my father's cooking. But I did eat at a place called Pandahan in West Covina and the food their was great. It was better than Barrio Fiesta. I am not sure if they inihaw baboy but they do have Crispy Pata! I recomment the sinigang baka.

New Pizza Joint in Eagle Rock

Is this a "sit down order appetizers, pizza, and pasta" place? Or are they more focussed on pizza? I would love to check this place out.

Comme Ça: Two Weeks Later

I love Lucques. Having dinner at Lucques instead of Comme Ca crossed my mind when I saw how busy Comme Ca was. If we did, I'm sure everyone in our party would have been happy. Coulda, woulda, shoulda...

Comme Ça: Two Weeks Later

I was one of the diners with Woolsey. I felt sorry for the diner as soon as I caught a glimpse of his plate. It was very disappointing. Restaraunts should not be able to get away with this. I can understand cutting down a portion to a certain extent. For the price he paid, he deserved more than six pieces of not silver dollar sized but quarter sized ravioli. The diner refered to his meal as a "happy meal." For the boeuf, my fellow diner reacted with a remark, 'hey, who put meat on my potatoes." I too thought that fear of running out may have downsized the portions, but it still doesn't justify it.

Free Ce Fiore this weekend! (Hollywood location only)

Yup. I received an email from Ce Fiore. I guess you have to ask for a coupon. So are they actually giving out free yogurt or giving out coupons for free yogurt on your next visit?

25 Degrees experience...

My first experience at 25 degrees was great. My burger was cooked right; same with the fries and onion rings. I thought all the dipping sauces were interesting. Everyone at the table agreed. The next lunch we had was not so great. Service was horrible. Staff looked unhappy. Food was greasy. My friend ordered his burger medium rare and it came back medium well. I've been there several times after as it is so close to work.

In a nutshell, they're very inconsistent. Lately I've noticed that their burgers are getting greasier and greasier. It doesn't matter if you order your burger rare, medium rare or medium. It's all the same-well or very close to well. After my last disappointing experience at 25 degrees, I vowed to never return. Regardless of how good their fries are, it's not worth it.

I'd rather have my burger at Lucky Devil's.

Best Flan in Highland Park?

Do Filipino places prepare flan differently?

Need Glendale or Pasadena suggestions

Salo Salo Grille is good; the service is bad. I've been there a few times. I don't recomend the bulalo because the beef is not tender. I do recommend their take on sigsig. Other Filipino spots are Max's and Barrio Fiesta (Eagle Rock). Of the three, I like Barrio Fiesta. You could order a sinilab and split it since your friend is on a budget. The sinilab can feed up to 4 to 6 people. It a huge meat and seafood filipino bbq platter(ihaw ihaw) served on a bed of banana leaves.

Top Chef Finale! (spoilers)

Before they let Padma go, they should let Tom Coliccio go. He needs to get away from the cameras and focus on CRAFT-LA. The restaurant is receiving one horrible review after another.

Delivery in Eagle Rock?

Pizza Hut, Dominos, Two Guys, and King Pizza...sad to say. There's a couple of Thai places that say they deliver on their menu. Sorry, don't know the names though.

Canelé: Good food, shame about the service...

I was there last night. Server was on top of things as the restaurant wasn't busy. As for the food, I ordered the aglio olio and my friend ordered the beef with butter noodles. Both were good.

Canelé: Good food, shame about the service...

We were not in a rush to go anywhere. The service was just bad. Another episode not mentioned: As he came over to take down our drinks, a lady stopped him and asked for a small side of garlic to eat with her fish. This lady who had already been served stopped him as we called him over and asked for garlic. He went back to get her garlic first and didn't return to us until he notice all of us waving at him.
The server just needs to prioritize.

Canelé: Good food, shame about the service...

I was with woolsey at Canele and his account for the service seems a little inaccurate. In fact, it was much worse. When the bus boy notified the waiter that we were ready to order, after waiting almost 30 minutes, he makes his way over to us. BUT he stopped to chit chat with two other tables! Like there was a 40 minute mandatory wait for ordering and we were shy 10 minutes. If the food wasn't so darn tasty, I'd never return.
The pork chop was perfect!

Poll: What restaurants do you eat in most often?

My go to spots are:

La Fuente (Eagle Rock) - when I want a quick and affordable meal.
Cafe Beaujolais - when I'm not in a rush.

Is it time to stop/reduce tipping? (moved from LA)

I strongly believe that if the service is horrible, you should not leave a 15% tip. Leave the tip based on what type of service you received. Simple as that...

kabuki?

There was a point in time, when Kabuki served great sushi, provided good service, and located on foothill (only). Now, Kabuki is everywhere and the food is gross. Not only is the food gross, the service is terrible. My worst experience with Kabuki was at Pasadena's Colorado Blvd location. They have some serious organizational issues.

Sitting at the Kiddie Table at Osteria Mozza

I am with manku's take on Osteria. It is "just not that good" except for the octopus. As far as location goes, both restaurants are located on Melrose and Highland on the Southwest corner of the intersection. There's valet parking for 7.50. I also suggest doing the Pizzeria first as I am a big fan of the Pizzeria.

Sitting at the Kiddie Table at Osteria Mozza

My one and only experience at O-Mozza was at the "kiddie table" so I really have nothing to compare it to (no main room experience). During the begin of our meal, we were not alone in that section and it seemed that they had more than one person tending to the area. But as the night progressed, the staff slowly started disappearing. It was to the point that they may have forgotten that they had customers in there- us.

Osteria Mozza - Bummer

I went there last Saturday, August 25, and there was only one dish that I really enjoyed - the octopus. The orrechiette was tasty but not extraordinary. It was my first time at Osteria Mozza, but I was there with a friend who has been there before. He was able to point out that since our table was in the backroom of the restaurant we were short changed on the service as he had to walk into the main room several times to flag down the staff. At restaurants were people go for not only the food, but the service as well, something like this is unacceptable. We threw down 350 dollars and got only one remarkable dish. The orata fish was forgetable, although my friend enjoyed it. Another friend's description of the Brasato was "meat in La Fuente's Burrito." Personally, I like their Burritos.

Larkins in Eagle Rock

I've been wanting to try Larkin's for some time now. Every weekend I decide to go, I read something or hear something bad about the place. I keep saying I will give them time to work out all the kinks but I am getting tired of waiting.

On another note, I totally agree with CB. Great staff and excellent food.

Someone explain The Fascination with Tommy's and Pinks?

Yes! Melted cheese and chilli on yellow wrapper. The yellow wrapper enhances the flavor of the two giving it the perfect balance for our tastebuds. No jp. I have no idea why that is.

Someone explain The Fascination with Tommy's and Pinks?

My fascination with Tommy's is scrapping the chili off the yellow wrapping paper with my fork. Then eating it! The chili on the paper tasted better then the chili in my burger. I don't frequent Tommy's like I use to back in my high school days, but every now and then I'll get Tommy's in hopes of quick relief for a really bad hang over.

Wine Glass

If they were glasses that you would usually get a gin and tonic in, I have no idea why they served you wine in it. If it looked like the bulb of a wine glass or just like a wine glass minus the stem, it's normal. I remember first seeing these glasses around 5 years ago. Reidel launched this line called the o tumbler. It was basically their traditional glasses minus the stem. Why Reidel did this? It was done to make they glasses fit in the dish washer. Also, when a wine glass breaks, most likely it breaks at the weakest part of the glass, the stem. The downfall is that your hand around the bulb warms the wine.

Top Chef- right now

I don't think that is completey true about Howie. Reflecting back to the "small bites, late nights" episode, he did not point to his inability to work as a team player. Every team he has been on, has came in last. It is is evident that the team's performance was a disasater because he just would not compromise.

Filipino restaurants in California

I like Salo Salo, also in Glendale, as my top "non-turo-turo" spot. Service may not be as fast as you'd like it. Get a seat near the cashier so you can be spotted easily by the staff.
