Farm to Fork 2012 [Triangle, NC]
I spoke to one of the farmers I regularly patronize at the Greensboro Curb Market as he had posted on his Facebook account about what he was taking to the event - I believe that he was paired with the chef from Lucky 32.
Anyway, he said that it wasn't as crowded as last year and he didn't think it was a sell out. While he brought his grass fed lamb and cooked it at the event, he commented that he felt that a lot of the vendors didn't bring their "A" game. He felt that the food quality was not as high this year and said that there were way too many salads and pre-made dishes.

$200 for the four of you was not a bad deal. Unless they change the pricing you have one more year. When each of your kids costs $100 the equation is different.

Surely you have heard of media sponsorships where ad time is traded for sponsorship signage and free admission? Not saying that is what happened but it is very plausible.
Please critique my list
Does Au Cheval take reservations? Couldn't figure it out by looking at their web presence.
Magnolia Grill in Durham is Closing
Wonder whether we might see these reservations sold on eBay or Craig's List?
Magnolia Grill in Durham is Closing
I tried calling several times to make a reservation over a three hour period last night and the phone rang busy each time. I suspect they had taken it off the hook.
BBQ IN NC
I have never heard Lexington-style BBQ called "Western Style." In these parts, it is referred to as Lexington-style. Western style is served up in the mountains, where the sauce thickens with the cooler temperatures found at elevation.

Well put, LulusMom. For $100, I would expect a very different type of event. This is a nice way to spend the afternoon with the family and friends, but at $100 per person, I suspect that the attendance will likely be down. Sad, because it is a good cause but they really should think of other ways to raise more money that simply raising the ticket price.
Farm to Fork 2012 [Triangle, NC]
There was a response from one of the organizers on this thread yesterday but it now appears to have been censored, for some reason.
I have been to Farm to Fork for the last two years and am on the fence this year. I have a teenage child so it would be $300 for the three of us to attend. The added attraction of drinks being included has no appeal, particularly since my daughter is underage.
Surely, there are other ways the organizers could raise additional funds beyond the simplistic method of raising the entrance fee. Auctions, raffles, VIP seating, VIP parking etc, come to mind quickly. But $100 just to get in the "door" just doesn't seem worth it. For that amount of money, I want a sit-down dinner in a location where I don't have to worry about the weather.
Also, the lack of communication from this organization that others have remarked upon is valid. Certainly, they have my email address but I have never once heard from them with an announcement regarding this year's event nor any other activities that they might hold during the year.
It's too bad the organizer who posted earlier is apparently not able to communicate further with us on this thread as I cannot find any other way to communicate with the group as there are no links posted on their website.
The topics page is not loading properly
It is now the middle of "next week" and the list still doesn't load properly. Can you provide an update on the timing for the fix?
The topics page is not loading properly
When I go through the forums I follow and click on "Switch Board" the list of topics now cascades vertically, creating a very long page. It used to be formatted so that topics loaded horizontally, as well, requiring far less scrolling to get to the desired topic.
Please bring back the old format. I would actually prefer all the topics to load in the browser window, obviating the need to scroll, but that would require re-formatting the page so that the banner ad doesn't take up so much space. I guess that's not happening.
Questions about Lexington #1 BBQ
Out of curiousity, are there any BBQ restaurants that you believe produce a product that is as good as what you would get at a competition?
If so, I would like to see your list.
Questions about Lexington #1 BBQ
I'm not certain you can get the same outside brown effect with the coarse chopped, though others may have a different experience. I'm not a big fan of the "coarse chopped" as I don't like the texture of the chunks.
Generally, you will find that for most places in NC (both Eastern and Lexington styles), the BBQ is rather finely chopped. Those places that do it by hand come up with a better texture than those that use an automated chopper.
I have seen a number of places outside the state offer NC-style "pulled pork" but that preparation is not generally found inside NC. It does, however, cause confusion for visitors to the state who expect to find it when they come here.
Louis Osteen returns to Pawleys
I went to Osteen's seafood restaurant in Nashville last year with high expectations and was very much underwhelmed, as well. Perhaps I just caught it on an off night - hope it works out well for him back in Pawleys.
Craft Beer in the Triad (GSO - WS)
1618 Wine Lounge on Battleground has a nice beer selection. Not sure it will hit your price point, though.
Need restaurant recos for Garner NC area
I'm a fan of Toot n Tell. Always stop there on the way to the beach. The fried chicken is good, there is a nice selection of southern-style veggies and it is one of the few places I know that always has chitlins in the buffet. How authentic is that!
GA PIG Closed
Been a long time since I was there but that was the surliest crowd I have ever run into in the restaurant business.
North Carolina BBQ TOUR
I'll defend mikeh on this one. If it isn't cooked over wood, it is roasted pork. I haven't been to Gary's in a number of years but I wasn't thrilled with it on the couple of occasions I was there. Perhaps I was influenced by the kitschy atmosphere, as well.
Vietnamese Garden - Dim Sum Greensboro, NC
I'm confused. The OP said it would be tray service Dim Sum but it sounds like you ordered from a menu. Is there a tray service in the works?
Surly Fans: this one made me gag
Absolutely, though I would hardly describe it using your terms. Sounds to me like you got a bad can. It is also fun to mix a Bender with a Furious - in Minneapolis, the combination is known as a Fender.
One for the Hopheads!
To me, the IBUs are not the primary determinant of whether a beer is an IPA or a Double IPA. According to the BJCP guidelines, an IPA ranges from 40-70 IBUs and the ABV range is from 5.5-7.5%. An Imperial (or Double) IPA's IBUs range from 60-120 but the ABV is from 7.5-10%.
Note that there is crossover in the IBUs but the ABV has a clear demarcation.
One for the Hopheads!
It's a great beer and I'm glad that it is local to me but, at 7% ABV, it is not a Double IPA.
Can't you make it easier to find new posts?
Periodically, my address bar fails to fill in with previous site addresses and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to find the new posts without going through trial and error.
Can't you make this function easier?
It's Pumpkin beer time! What are you favorites?
Tried this year's Dogfish Head a few days ago and would have to add that to my list. I preferred it to the Smuttynose, which is a reversal for me.
Dinner at Mercat a la Planxa - 9/24/2011
I eat at Mercat almost every time I am in Chicago; in fact, I just had dinner there last night. Service has never been an issue and the food has always been terrific. I crave the jambon fig salad.
Unread posts
Why not have an easily identifiable icon that users could click on that would take them to their unread posts?
The unintuitive method that you have right now is not user-friendly.
Unread posts function not working again
I noted this problem a few weeks ago and was advised that the way to find unread posts had changed. Now that change no longer appears to be working.
Why not just make it easier to find unread posts? It is hard to guess how to do it each time you make a change.
Best Foodie Restaurant in Atlanta?
Holeman & Finch was recommended to me the last time I was in Atlanta and was really glad to hit it at a time when it wasn't packed. Very creative with lots of small plates. Try the steak tartare - one of the highlights of the night.

What happened to the old Hot Posts function that morphed into "new_posts/show"
My preference for surfing the Chowhound website is to look at new posts on the forums I follow. It used to be simple with the old Hot Posts function and then it got slightly more complicated when you had to go to the "new_posts/show" format.
As of yesterday, that format no longer works and I get a "Sorry, we can't find that page" message.
Now I have to go to each forum I follow and see everything that is posted, which I really don't want to do.
Suggestions, please.
