1 day in Carneros/Napa

I am thinking that we will do Domaine Carneros and 2 other less touristy vineyards. I read the link you supplied, and I can get our group into the 3pm wine/cheese pairing at Etude on Friday. That may be one to consider. And then one other one from that list, maybe Truchard, Adastra, and Ram's Head looks wonderful. Thanks for all the food for thought!
I stayed at the Carneros Inn years ago, but used it as our home base for exploring Napa, St. Helena and Diamond Mountain. So it will be nice to relax and really enjoy the area as opposed to running all over Napa trying to pack in as many sights as possible!

1 day in Carneros/Napa

Thank you for your advice. All of this sounds great, and I appreciate your advice about avoiding Napa. I spent 3 days in Napa a few years ago, and visited about 10-12 vineyards so I would love to do something different. The Sonoma wineries you mention sound wonderful, I will look into them. Thank you again!!!

1 day in Carneros/Napa

Hello,

I am traveling with my family to San Francisco this upcoming weekend, May 17-20. We plan to spend the day in Carneros/Napa on Friday the 17th. Most of the group has been to Napa before, and we are returning for a day of fun and wine tasting. We plan to first stop at Domaine Carneros for some bubbly, and then see maybe 2 other wineries and have lunch (either a sit down lunch or picnic style depending on weather). We have to be back in SF by 6pm, so we don't want to travel too far North. We just want to hit some nice wineries that are close enough to Carneros, lower Sonoma or Napa such that we can have a nice, relaxing day and not spend the entire day in the car driving all over the place. Any suggestions would be great! Thank you so much.

Ansill-still good? What to get?

Going to Ansill for the first time next week with my husband and another couple. Is it still as good as they say? Any ordering advice? I know the menu changes so I wanted to see if anyone had thoughts on the current or recent menu.

Thanks in advance!

Baltimore restaurant for visiting Philly girl

I am staying in Baltimore for 3 nights this week and would like some reccs for dinners out in Baltimore. I am staying on the harbor at the Renaissance Hotel and will be going out w/ colleagues. There are 4 of us and we like everything---just looking for great food for our first trip to Baltimore. Walking distance is a plus.

Any suggestions are welcome!!

South Africa: special/ best wineries?

I am adding to this post as well (maybe Gooseberry will be happy to have more action!!) since I am just back from 2 weeks in South Africa and spent a week traveling through Stellenbosch and Cape Town.
The wineries that we visited were all wonderful and I can reccommend them all:

Rustenburg
Tokara
Moreson (in Franschooek)
Warwick
L'Avenir

We loved the food as well, and had a wonderful lunch at Le Petite Ferme. I can say that the food was delicious, service was just okay. But the ambience is amazing--beautiful view, cozy fireplace, just lovely.

We also tried the wines at Zorgvliet Estate and they were truly fabulous!

Recommendations for special-but-unstuffy celebration dinner?

I also vote for Osteria. My husband just graduated from Law School and we celebrated there with our families. The food is fabulous and the vibe is "unstuffy", perfect for a celebration dinner. Go and enjoy!!

"Musts" in Stellenbosch

Hi there!

I will be in SA in early August for 2 weeks traveling around. I will be in Stellenbosch for 3 nights, doing a wine tour all day for one of the days. It is my anniversary and my husband and I will be traveling with another couple.
Any suggestions for dinner for my 3 evenings, especially the anniversary celebration?
Here are some options that the hotel provided, any comments would be great!! :
Wijnhuis, De Ouwe Werf, Fishmonger, Cognito, De Oewer, Bukara, Sosati

We then head to Cape Town for 3 nights, and I have read through all of the wonderful Chow suggestions--so thank you!
