Chinatown seafood

Is there any of the chinatown tank-in-the-window joints that stand above the rest?

With Kurowcky's gone---searching for a good ham

Bacynski's. A block away on 2nd Ave at 9th st. I too favored Kurowcky's, but Bacynski's are almost as good.

ikizukuri

I've had Hirame Ikizuri several times at Kanoyama. They had it last week when I was there. Check their web site; they post their daily specials every day.

Standing Rib Roast...

Ottomanelli's: Bleecker @ 7th. By far the best butcher downtown. They own their building so the prices are actually reasonable, less then Dean + Delucre or Baluccis or Citarella et al.
A rib roast isn't going to be cheap anywhere, but I recently bought a small one (2 ribs) for around $50-60.

Best latkes

Stage restaurant, 2nd Ave @ St, Marks. Made to order. Best in the neighborhood, hands down.

First visit to Katz's

Pastrami or corned beef should be the first timer's order. BUT, Sometimes I like to switch it up and go for brisket on a hero. A real sleeper that not too many people even know about.

Worst Slice of Pizza in Manhattan

Joe's doesn't have a grandma pie. Just regular, fresh mozzarella and Sicilian.

Worst Slice of Pizza in Manhattan

I've got to disagree. I've had thousands of slices at the old corner Joe's, and many more at the mid-block one. I will say that the slices for some reason seem to re-heat less well than they used to, but a fresh pie is really, I think, still the best street slice in Manhattan. It's not a Difaraesque artisnal thing, just a classic NYC slice. The sicialian is a real sleeper, too (agan, only when just out of the oven)

Eastern North Carolina style barbeque in NYC???

Pies and Thighs, Brooklyn. Butts and vinegar, closest thing to Wilber's you're gonna get here. Beautiful little dumpy place.

Frozen Yogurt

Yes, most modern 'frozen yogurt' is really just ice milk with some non-active cultures thrown in. Diet ice cream.

Thankfully, real frozen yogurt has been returning, with the recent proliferation of Pinkberry and Yolato chains. However, as the above posts attest, the Frogurt at Bloomingdales is superior. Theirs is a lowfat yogurt, while Pinkberry and Frogurt are nonfat. Richer, creamier, tangier, better.

Now, if somebody would just bring back those 'Danny-on-a-stick' bars...
