Yeah this is the one time I wish CH had a like button :) I've gotten smarter and started saving these posts.
Distinguishing Factors in Determining Good (authentic) Mexican Cuisine in Manhattan: Kahlua's Cafes and other venues in El Berrio
I just want to clarify that when you say NYC above you mean Manhattan, right?
anyone tried aarpan indian on 5th ave?
Unless I hit it on a wrong chef day earlier this week, I think Kinara's gone way downhill. My formerly favorite Baighan Bharta had all the wrong flavors, seemingly consisting mostly of near-burnt tomato sauce.
First date (technically, 1.5, I guess) recommendations please! Great food + beer options!
The Otheroom is not too far away. It's not necessarily a beer nerd destination, but it has a decent selection and is a great place to seal the deal if the date is going well.

I don't find it cramped. It honestly is cozy. Food is excellent as are the cocktails.
Indonesian bazaars, Masjid al-Hikmah, 2012
Masjid al Hikmah. You can search. Prices are low, a dollar or so for sweets up to around $10. This ain't Googa Mooga.
Where do you eat in Jackson Heights?
Maybe I don't understand this place. I went a few weeks back, tried a few recommended dishes, found them pleasurable in a homey fashion but nothing particularly exciting. Nice people.
Porchetta Hog E. 5th St.
But all of your examples are proper names, not common words. If there's a restaurant called Pork, I'm sure there could be legal variations on this such as Pork Heaven, Pork Place, etc.
best old school dim sum in Chinatown right now?
I went to Golden Unicorn today and found it much better than I remembered. It's about as old school as you can find in NYC, including the decor.
Am I missing any Uptown good eats on my list ???/
There's a new Ethiopian on 135th called Abyssinia that I haven't been to but was recommended highly to me.

I had a terrible croissant there. Great atmosphere for reading or studying but the pastries are meh and the coffee is worse.
Szechuan Gourmet/Flushing vs. Hunan Kitchen Grand Sichuan/Flushing
If you make a reservation at HK you can get a large table that I'm pretty sure will hold 10.
Szechuan Gourmet/Flushing vs. Hunan Kitchen Grand Sichuan/Flushing
I've tried a large swath of the menu and haven't been disappointed. What didn't you like?
Szechuan Gourmet/Flushing vs. Hunan Kitchen Grand Sichuan/Flushing
Hunan Kichen has excellent food, some of the better decor to be found in Flushing, they take reservations, and they take cards. There's a NY Times review if you want some dish suggestions.
Best restaurants for low carb/paleo eaters when dining out
Most versions of Paleo exclude beans. Not only are they high in starch, but they contain toxins. Check out http://perfecthealthdiet.com for info.

How are tomatoes questionable, but not beans?
Smorgasburg: What a Pretentious Rip Off.....
I really like MQ actually. I had their stuff at the Stockton Farmers Market in NJ. Not saying I'd wait in that line, but it is real good.
Inexpensive Restaurants in the Park Slope Area
I assume the OP is looking for cheap, good food, not merely cheap. I dont think JPan qualifies, and Steinhof is marginal. I'd recommend Bark on Bergen St for gourmet hot dogs and Der Kommisar on 5th Ave near 16th St for tasty Austrian sausages and beer. Juventino on 5th Ave offers an excellent breakfast/lunch menu daily until around 4pm, with most items around $10.
Who recommended Anthony's? I find it solidly mediocre.
Websites/Resources for Food Events and Festivals?
I use Google Reader to subscribe to just about every major NYC food blog and many minor ones. I use it for Chowhound too (only Manhattan & Outer Boroughs). If you have an i-Device, I highly recommend the Reeder app to quickly scroll through the available offerings and pick out the anything interesting. This way you'll get the information pushed to you almost immediately upon publication - no need to visit the website usually unless you want to.
Lena Latin Grill....certainly my favored spot for coffee BEST ESPRESSO
I wIsh I had saved your other comment.
CT Hound ISO "Exotic" Eats north of Midtown
I have a couple of hearsay recommendations from friends I trust. My friend Eric, who has a lot of experience with the cuisine, says his favorite Vietnamese in NYC is in the Bronx. Here's his blog post about it: http://ericeatsout.blogspot.com/search/label/Bronx . I believe Jim Leff wrote about this place as well.
Another African-food exploring friend recommends a new Ethiopian on W 135th between Adam . I went by it the other day just to see it but don't remember the name. It's between Frederick Douglass and Adam Clayton Powell, near the police station. The number was either 270 or 272.
She also recommends a Senegalese restaurant, Keur Sokhna (http://www.keursokhnaplus.com/) in Harlem.
I recently discovered a great soul food buffet at Jacob Restaurant on the corner of 129th & Lenox when I was hanging out at Lenox Coffee on 129th. I loved the oxtails, the baked salmon, the baked short ribs, and the collards and mashed potatoes. A friend of mine recommends the fried chicken. I bet most things there are top notch. It's only $6.49/lb, so the barrier to entry is low.

I'm curious though. Attitude of staff aside, you thought Lena Latin Grill had the best espresso you've had in NYC?
Smorgasburg: What a Pretentious Rip Off.....
I enjoy the overall experience. I use my Chowdar to pick out the good stuff and ignore the rest. I personally wouldn't wait in a 100 person line for Mighty Quinn, but if others want to, who am I to criticize? I don't understand the hate.
Smorgasburg: What a Pretentious Rip Off.....
I'm not grumbling. Portions seem fine to me.
Smorgasburg: What a Pretentious Rip Off.....
I like Smorgasburg a lot. Best thing I found last weekend was a stall called Noshi selling gorgeously composed Japanese inflected open-faced sandwiches on hard rye bread. They also offer a delicious unsweetened elderflower drink as an accompaniment.
I also like the RH Ballfields, but it's a completely different thing, not really comparable at all. One great thing about S'burg is that it's close to transit and you can walk a couple blocks for some of Williamsburg's other delights, whether they happen to be great cocktails, coffee or just shopping and people watching.

Hi Michelle
The West Village is somewhat under-represented in terms of good coffee, although there are a fair number of cafes overall. The only one I'd go out of my way for is Joe the Art of Coffee on the corner of Waverly & Gay. They serve Ecco Caffe, roasted in Santa Rosa, California. The Think Coffee branch on 8th Ave near the intersection of Greenwich Ave has poor espresso, but offers decent pour overs (single serve drip coffee) from a rotating group of coffee roasters. One they feature often is Plowshares, roasted in upstate New York.
A little further afield you could visit Ninth Street Espresso in Chelsea Market, making usually well-crafted drinks using Dallis Bros beans roasted in Queens, and Blue Bottle Coffee in Milk Studios on far West 15th Street, using coffee they roast themselves in Williamsburg. This shop features the only siphon bar in New York City and also a full roster of espresso drinks.
New York Pizza
I don't find it mind-altering, at least not in a good way. I live fairly close and never go there on purpose.
