Mount Snow / Dover Casual Reccomendations

A group of us are heading up to the Tough Mudder this weekend up at Mount Snow. We are looking for a good casual place to eat dinner after the race. Nothing fancy - just solid food and a good beer list would be ideal.

Wine Country - Please Help! Food and Drink Recommendations

We are visiting wine country this weekend and wouldn't mind some help with our itinerary. We are headed to French Laundry Thursday for dinner and staying at The Wine Country Inn in St. Helena for the duration. We also have our wineries picked out for Friday and Saturday:

Friday - Ggrigich(? - might drop this as we've heard mixed reviews), Schramsberg, Cade, Phelps
Saturday: Rubissow, Opus, Staggs Leap

We haven't picked out lunch or dinner spots to go with what are hopefully some great wines. Any recommendations would be appreciated. As we will probably blow through our budget at FL, small places on the cheaper/mid-range would be best.

Also, any recommendations for any wineries that are not on our list that would be great. But what would be even better is to hear any recommendations for craft breweries or distilleries (as we have no prejudice against any type of booze) that should not be missed.

Thanks in advance.

Superbowl Sunday

This is in no way meant to rub salt in anyone's wounds but I will be out in San Fran from NYC next week and I am looking for a good spot to watch the game. Looking for a placewith good food and a couple of tvs for a group of about 5 people but don't want to go to a typical chain type sportsbar. Any reccomendations?

Also, we will be out in St. Helena the following weekend - if anyone has any hidden gems in the area feel free to shout them out as well.

Thanks in advance!

Midtown Dinner - 6 People

Looking for a place for 6 people near 53rd and Madison for dinner on a Tuesday night. About $50 - 75 per person (including booze but not tip). Anything but sushi. It is a dinner to celebrate a wedding engagment and would like something decent with a good vibe. I was thinking Brasserie but I go there too much and was looking for a good alternative. Thanks Chowhounders.

Lowcountry

Thanks. I agree with all you said although our service was pretty good (probably becuase it was empty). Food was pretty mediocre but the baked oysters were possibly one of the worst things I have eaten in months.

You can definitely get a seat at the bar at that time. Depending on the night you should be able to get a table at that time - I wouldn't try pulling it on a Thurs. Fri. or Sat.

Tribeca Neighborhood Spots

I'm moving down to Tribeca this week and looking for great neighborhood spots for cheap eats or delivery. I know most of the higher end more publicized spots but I am looking for neighborhood/comfortable/hidden gems to grab a meal on a Tuesday night or order in on a Sunday. All suggestions welcome - best pizza, Chinese, Thai, Italian, delis, Mexican, brunch, burgers - whatever you got I'll take your suggestions. I'm looking forward to eating my way through the hood. Thanks in advance.

Casa Bleve in Rome

Of course we had the mozzarella. Great. I haven't stopped talking about it. I guess you guys were more restrained then us - we went up for a seconds (a much smaller plate the second time around) and it was just as good.

Glass Hostaria in Trastevere

We ate here last week and what a disappointment - I can't even begin to tell you. This was the worst meal (outside of eating a quick slice of pizza in the Vatican) in Rome and it was the most expensive. I will give this place good reviews for their wine list which was very solid and their deserts were also very tasty but the rest was a colossal failure. I have no idea how this place received a Michelin star or such a high rating in zagats. First there is more staff then customers and they still take FOREVER to serve. Our meal was 3 hours for two people but with large gaps of time between courses. I know what good pacing is - and this was not it. It was slow painful torture. Then the food that arrived was basically inedible. We received an amuse bouche when we arrived - tuna encrusted in coffee grinds. The tuna smelled old and not fresh and tasted that way too. Then I had the steak tar tar. Flavorless, grey, and old - bleh. I ate about 2 bites. My wife that the bean soup - it just tasted (and looked like) mud. No texture, no flavor. I then had the lobster - it was an undercooked gelatinous mess. My wife had the filet - which was the only edible thing we had (but in no way justified its 30 euro price tag). All in all this was the most disappointing experience I had and regret that we had planned on this being our "special night out". The atmosphere is nice in a great neighborhood - but my advice to you is eat in any of the 100 tratorias in the area and you will be greatly rewarded for not stepping foot inside this terrible restaurant.

I never write negative things about a place that tries hard, however, this was such a bad meal that I had to share.

Casa Bleve in Rome

I just went there last week and I second your experience. This place is phenominal. Not the cheapest but you definitely get what you pay for and the wine shop in front is fantastic. I have been thinking about it since I returned to New York.

AnticaPesa Roma

Does anyone have any good or bad things to say about AnticaPesa in Rome?

http://www.anticapesa.it/

My wife is dying to try it on our trip but I haven't seen anyone write about it on these boards. The menu looks good but I tend to like more low key places when I eat in Rome so I wanted to see what the chowhounders thought. Also, what is the price range per person for a dinner here (with a bottle of wine)? Thanks.

How much were Da Lucia and ai Fienaroli about per person (and whether it is including or not including wine)? Thanks.

Restaurants in and around the Aventino

You'll have a blast. Scary thing is I was there over decade ago (the lire was still in place, the dollar was strong and food was dirt cheap) and haven't been back since. Going back next week and will give you a report of any finds (I'm staying nearby the convent on the Aventino). Don't worry you will find plenty after a week but I am gong to revisit some of my old favorites in Testaccio and Trastevere and will let you know if they still hold up.

Trinity Rome program by any chance? There are plenty of place in Testaccio with great local food for reasonable prices and you are a pretty short walk to Trastevere with the same. Honestly, since you are there so long you will eat your way through Rome (I did).

Cooking class for couples?

I did a class at the Social Table

http://thesocialtable.com/

It is awesome. BYOB, lots of differnt offerings, the owner/instructer is really cool and fun. It is way more intimate and hands on then the big spots. I gave to to a friend as a wedding gift and all 4 of us had an absolute blast.

El Porron: 1st Ave betw. 61st and 62nd. General review

Very mediocre overall - I probably won't be back unfortunately. I was excited for a new place in the neighborhood and was really disappointed. It does not even hold a candle to places like Txita, Tia Pol, Boqueria . . . They did a great job renovating the place and the athstetics are great but everything was rather bland, the sauces were oily, and nothing stood out. Wine list was also so so. We had the spiked french toast for desert which was ruined by the overly bitter fruit sause on top. The one thing I can say was that the waitstaff was very pleasant and attentive. Too bad, hopefully they can revamp before they become another casualty of the UES.

Late lunch midtown...above E. 57th St., low E. '60s.

I litterally just ate there today. Really tasty but it definitely does not fit in the "not expensive" category. $15 for a lemonade and a miniscule sandwhich.

Boqueria or Casa Mono?

I think Boqueria is probably better for the scene and atmosphere. Casa Mono is probably a better location for after. Food at both are great but probably like the food at Tia Pol or Txkito better. Probably in for a wait at Tia Pol Boqueria and Casa Mono but you should be able to get a table pretty quickly at Txkito.

Barros Luco: Serving Up Tasty Little Bastards

I hope this place survives. It is a great addition to the neighborhood in a location that has had 2 other places fail very quickly. It is not as good as the chilean sandwhich spot in Boston (Charcatero?) but then again its the only time I have ever seen these served in NY. Sandwhich is small but with a side of sweet potato fries its enough.

Isle of Palms / Charleston Friday and Saturday Dinner for 15

Thanks all for your reccs. We hit up Poes Thursday (great), Pearlz Friday (amazing), and some seafood place behind rue jean (horrible) and a couple of lunches in between. Also hit up Homeny Grill for breakfast one morning (amazing). There just wasn't enough time to keep eating everywhere. Its an amazing place to wine and dine. Thanks all for your reccs.

Thanks for the heads up on no beer at Momma Brown's - that is a deal breaker. Although its fast food is Melvin's any good? Also we are checking out Hank's Seafood in Charleston on Sat night - any good?

Isle of Palms / Charleston Friday and Saturday Dinner for 15

Looking for 2 good dinners that can accomodate a large group for Friday and Sat. night this week near Isle of Palms. I was considering Melvins or Momma Brown's Friday but there seems to be some disagreement over how good they are. We are staying at Isle of Palms so I would prefer not to have to do a long drive all the way into Charleston both nights after long rounds of golf. Looking for a good 30ish crowd if possible. Cost is not important just looking for good food - bbq, american, seafood, show me what you got. Also, good lunch or breakfast reccs would be appreciated (or any golf course recc's). Thanks in advance.

L'Ecole, French Culinary Institute's restaurant

I've eaten there about 4 times and have never been disappointed. I don't think you will be blown away by creativity but for the price you get a high quality of food, nice wine list, and really friendly service. Definitely reccomend it.
