Visiting for the weekend
My boyfriend and I are fully and completely ignorant of where and what is best in metro DC area -- and we will not have a car so it will have to be accessable by train.
We are pretty adventurous eaters. I would like some ethnic (whatever is best to be had). I also hear that the seafood is fairly good in your neck of the woods. Probably nothing too expensive, except perhaps for our saturday night out date. We are staying in Du Pont Circle area but will be spending most of our time tryingout the museums.
where can one find best selection of hot sauce?
I seem to remember Acme bar and grill, down on Great Jones Street having a really good selection
Restaurants with great soup in NYC
though not within the catagories you have indicated, B&H dairy on 2nd Avenue has the best soup around.
Best coffee shop for writing a paper in (south-y) Park Slope?
have you tried that new coffee shop across from the gate? i never have, but it looks pretty user friendly.
anything new and noteworthy in BKLYN??
other than James and Barrio none of the post are referring to new restaurants.
I have heard of two new but have not been, would love to try.

best unusual brunch in park slope?
Bogata on 5th. It has some pretty interesting breakfasts, either brunch specials or a la carte, if you are interested in somehting smaller.
it goes a little beyond huevos rangeros.
I also like their spicy bloody marias.
Bday cake in Park Slope and environs
also, if Cake man raven might have vanilla cake
Bday cake in Park Slope and environs

on 5th avenue, next to tempo, i believe.
i have had some stuff from them that i was good, it may be worth trying at least.
What's your favorite lounge-y food place?
Tapeo on 5thAve and Bergen has couches in back, tables in front and high tops in the middle.
Good restaurant near Bronx Botanical Garden
Finally convinced SO to head to the TRAIN SHOW - very excited, but now must supply him with semi- to far superior food nearby to keep him contented.
Suggjestions?
2nd Avenue Deli Reopening
just tried to get some of the matzo ball soup like my mother used to buy me and i waited in line for so long i just left. the same woman was at the counter apparently just chatting the entire time.
a bubbly asian woman was alos just telling people were to go and how to stand, she irritated me.
Awesomeness in Brooklyn Heights/DUMBO?
if you are heading toward smith, there is also the important factors of Sahadi's, the upcomgin trader joes, damascus bakery and the slightly charming tazza.
Restaurant life in Brooklyn
Park Slope has tons of great food. some on the pricier end, however I would not say that they have a huge ethnic variety. I will not debate them here, but you should do a search...there are vast options.
Park Slope faves
was about to respond to this, as being a bizarre and inequal challenge, as "the best" is subjective, PS is not the ethnic center to establish it in one way, nor the financial center to merit it another. HOwever PS certainly has a strong showing in many areas -- including, but not limited to tempo, aldila, convivium osteria, blue ribbon, then i realized the post was writen in 1999. However, I still object to his "the best" catorization.
Lamb and Jaffe
went there in Greenpoint a few weeks and was kind of shocked at how good it was.
I had the lamb, which was flavorful and moist, with fabulous flavoring. I also tried everyone else at the tables and it was good, steak and lamb and everything.
my so had the beet pasta salad and didn't love it however, so it may be that they are very good with game.
the apatizer, devils on horseback, which is dates wrapped in bacon way good. i had never had it before.
the desert, a chocolate fallen thing -- yum.
Sunday Brunch in Park Slope
though not exactly the slope, chesnut occasionally has fabulous brunch.
but not consistant.
in the slope, alchemy is straight forward and good.
cherry tree pizza
i have had the pizza at cherry tree many times. Though always the small and never the large, the large looks like a regular pizza, while the small is a health size and has a real brick oven feel to it. (which it should as they have a real brick oven in the back). The toppings and the crust can be fabulous, including teh Verdi and the Pepperoni. Indeed, it has been somewht additictive, a friend was very angry when they closed for renovations. Though not the best in NY, I defintely find the pizza there sufficiently edible for post BAM eats, random bar munchies and snack food.
the service is consistantly downright appalling.
applewood with baby? or other nice restaurant in brooklyn?
i like seeing babys and kids out and about with parents. I do like it when they get up and walk them if they fuss though.
applewood with baby? or other nice restaurant in brooklyn?
i have been to applewood a few times and seen a lot of baby's there and been impressed because they were as a whole the best behaved I have ever seen. It seemed like it was a friendly place for babys who behave well. Though these may have been brunch events, I do remember making a point of metioning it to my companion.
Additionally, as a single person, with no baby, i have to say the issue of having babys in a restaurant, is not about bringing the baby, but how the parents respond when the baby acts badly. If you are going to do that walking thing that i remember my parents doing to me, but i don't see anyone doing any more, why should there be a problem.
Need great Breakfast place PARK SLOPE
for REALLY GREAT, with options like dizzys being thrown out there all i can say is Applewood, 12th Steet restaurant (on 8th across from Jonny Macks)
the rest are good if you are interested in not too special breakfast, but most of what i see posted here are diners, serving diner food.
