Do you call hazelnuts filberts?

We're from South Texas via England and we've always called them filberts.

Kitchen towels

Flour sack towels are great, but my all time favorite is cotton baby diapers. Sew a loop at the corner and they are perfect. They're very cheap, sturdy, widely available and absorb everything.

More than one pepper grinder?

We don't have those grinders, but I do keep one for white and one for black pepper. I like having the choice and prefer the white while my husband likes the black...Definitely get two. It's far better than using either preground. :)

French-German Border Recs?

My daughter and I are heading to the French - German border this fall and are wondering if anyone has any recommendations for us. It doesn't need to be outrageously priced, but definitely good food. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Finger Cookie Molds - Where to Buy?

Well, this is a stab in the dark, but I know that there will be a Chowhound out there to help me! I want to get a cookie mold to send to a friend. We both enjoy the pink biscuits/cookies/'champagne' fingers that are sold all over Epernay, France. I found a recipe for them and in it is says that you can pipe the dough onto parchment paper or put it in molds. Well, my friend would appreciate the mold...Anyone have any ideas where I can get one?
Thanks!

Champagne Finger Mold

Does anyone know where I can order one of these? I don't want to pipe out individual cookies. I want the typical bar of 5-6 shaped fingers to all be connected evenly...Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

German Cookware?

Politeness - We're in Germany now and I'd like to take something German home with us when our stay is over. Everywhere I've lived in the world I've brought home native cookware with me. It's a bulky collection...
:)

German Cookware?

Does anyone have any suggestions for quality cookware that is made in Germany?

Wooden spoon

We use wooden spoons for everything in my house and my mother and her mother did the same. I just wash them with hot soapy water and have never had any problems.

Bruges Belgium Restaurants

This isn't quite on topic, but if you are going to be in Bruges the first weekend in May the Chocolate Fest will be going on...

Noordwijk An Zee Dining Tips?

Noordwijk An Zee Dining Tips?

Thanks. But, we'll be there for the flower parade in about 2 weeks. Any good places in Den Haag that you can recommend?

Belgian Beer Recs?

My husband is a Belgian beer lover. His fav is Orval and in second place is Leffe Blonde. Does anyone have any recommendations for any other Belgian (or Dutch/French/German) beers that are somewhat like these two? They don't have to be imported into the States (although that is a plus for the future) as we are in Germany now. We're able to go and find them here now, but just need to know what to go and find. Thanks for any recs!

Chow Kids. Are you raising one?

It is great to see so many kids being raised as CHOW kids! Yay! We are trying too. While my husband from Jersey likes to corrupt with pep. pizza and french fries, we try and keep her on a varied diet. Her favorites right now are spinach or basil pesto (since birth this has been a fav), homemade wholegrain pretzels, raw veggies, any kind of medium to mild hot pepper sauce, beans, & ham hocks (boiled or roasted). We're in the middle the countryside in Germany, so our choices are somewhat limited, but at 3 she is still a happy and somewhat adventurous eater :)

German Red Wine?

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good German Red Wine? Something beyond the regular Dornfelder?

Noordwijk An Zee Dining Tips?

We're going on holiday to Noordwijk An Zee. Does any one have any suggestions for not-to-miss dining experiences? Thanks!

Eating Potatoes Raw

I eat them raw and have my entire life. My grandmother and I would snack on raw potatoes together from as far back as I can remember.

MEATBALL SUBS

I made 144 1" meatballs for a buffet this weekend and used 4-28 oz cans of tomato sauce, 1 cup of red wine & the assorted spices and seasonings of choice. We had plenty of sauce for the meatballs and they easily could've been put on bread for a sub, which is what we're doing with the leftovers this week. Hope that this gives you a starting point. Have fun simmering :)

Kid Party - Any Suggestions For Snacks?

great idea!

Kid Party - Any Suggestions For Snacks?

That's for sure! :)

Kid Party - Any Suggestions For Snacks?

Thanks for all of the ideas! I think that we're going with mini meatballs, veggies with dip, fruit, zucchini mini muffins, rice krispy treats (I know, but the big kids like them) and of course cake.

Kid Party - Any Suggestions For Snacks?

She's going to be two, but the kids coming to the party are between 2 & 5.

Kid Party - Any Suggestions For Snacks?

Am throwing a brithday bash for my little one in a few weeks and am trying to think of somewhat healthy treats to serve along with the cake. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Rapid City SD Recs?

Anyone have any places to recommend in Rapid City or Western South Dakota/Eastern Wyoming?
Thanks!

Habanero Nightmare

You're not alone. I've done this too with Scotch Bonnet peppers. I ended up soaking my burning hands in cold water, but they still throbbed all night.
