want to eat dinner alone in downtown la!!!
I wanna say Daily Grill for a simple, no-fuss solo dinner...
If you want better ambience (and for a quieter time), what about that revolving restaurant up at westin bonaventure? (i forgot the name)....
Paella
apart from calling (which is a hassle), is there any way to find out when they'll be serving the seafood paella?
Paella
wow, I work right by Ciudad and thought about trying their paella...thanks for the update...no seafood paella? i'm out....
Unfamiliar w/ SoCal, where to eat in Pasadena?
Pub kinda atmosphere? try barney's beanery in old town pasadena...
Sparks WoodFire Grill-Studio City
Not sure about the Kobe beef burger...i've been there a few times and to me food is only average...food selection is also pretty limited...i never know what i really want to get each time...i only like it for the relaxed, comfortable atmosphere...
Twin Palms Restaurant in Pasadena
My good friend is thinking about hosting her wedding reception at the Twin Palms Restaurant in Pasadena. Just want to get everyone's feedback to see if this place is good enough for my dear friend's big day... :)
Gale's Restaurant - Italian in Pasadena
I went to Gale's for the first time last night, and man, I feel so compelled to write a post on it.
Linguine Vongole has always been my fave italian food...and I'm hardly a fussy eater. Just gimme linguine vongole and I'm a happy camper.
Last night, I tasted possibly one of the best linguine vongole ever....most other places have something that's less than perfect: too much garlic, smelly clams, too much canned clams, not enough sauce/broth, too much olive oil etc.
I must say, Gale's did everything just right...I'll definitely be a repeat customer...
Best Soup's and Stew's in Los Angeles
I refuse to have any laksa here in LA, knowing at the back of my head that I can get MUCH better ones in singapore...
but if you must, the mee soto at Ramayani is kick-ass (imo)...
Indonesian Food - Restaurant Recs
wow, you guys are amazing...thanks so much...will put these down on my to-go places... :)
Indonesian Food - Restaurant Recs
Have a craving for good, authentic Indonesian food. I've been going to Ramayani since I moved to LA and it's the only Indonesian restaurant I've ever been to. So just wondering if there are any other Indo restaurants that can match Ramayani...
Best Japanese Curry
my vote goes to Hurry Curry in Sawtelle or Curry House in Little Tokyo..
just don't go to the Hurry Curry in old town Pasadena...
xiomara v. mi place v. other late nite old town eats?
I agree with wenster that la luna negra is a good place...good spanish food with a live band, a fun place to hang out...
vive is fun too...salsa bar cum restaurants...they also have live bands on the weekends...
Date place in Silverlake/Los Feliz area?
Tantra is nice too...dim lights (perfect for a date) :)
Emergency! How to Cook Swedish Meatballs?
thanks thanks...everyone...you're life-saviors.... :)
What Singaporean foods do you like and can't find in the US? [moved from LA board]
used to be a fan of both Killiney Road kaya and YaKun..then YaKun got too commercialized (and overpriced)....
Emergency! How to Cook Swedish Meatballs?
Please help. I need to cook Swedish meatballs tonight but I have no idea how. In fact, I've never eaten any before...so any direction you can provide will be great...thanks!
What Singaporean foods do you like and can't find in the US? [moved from LA board]
my fave list includes:
- crab bee hoon
- laksa
- otah
- satay with a lot of the peanut sauce
- ban mian
- sushi on 'conveyor belt'
- ice kachang
- durian
- stingray
- the half-boiled egg that goes with kaya toast
- dinosaur milo
- of course, black pepper crab (yummy!)
Black Pepper Crab where oh where
the crab should be a sri lankan crab...the biggest, juicest, meat-iest crab i've ever had...
and i agree with Lau that the joo chiat road crab is fantastic...but the one at AMK is just as great too...all these places make me not want to pay the high prices (for lesser quality crabs) at the Seafood Centre in ECP...
the Malaysian resteaurant in El Monte is Penang...ok food...one of the better places (given the lack of choices)...
I must try the Belacan Grill...thanks for the rec...
all this crab talk is making me hungry...
your favorite downtown restaurant right now?
i second curry house and Roy's
Sai Sai is not bad too...fresh sashimi but a little pricey....i think it's on olive and 4th...
non-Asian: Zucca is good...
Windows Restaurant DTLA Closing
yeah, nevermind that the food is below par...that place sure holds a lot of memories for some of us...
