How is Colicchio's Tap Room in terms of noise level?

Planning on bringing a friend there next Saturday. Managed to get a 7pm reservation, but afraid it might be too loud/bustling My friend is a bit hard of hearing, so wanted to get some thoughts about the noise level. Thanks.

Budget NYC Bride

I got married last winter at Bayards and it was wonderful. We had a pretty booze-centric wedding also, but I was surprised by their reasonable prices, so I think they can work with your budget (especially on a Sunday, especially if it's during the day). The other benefit is that the space is gorgeous (especially in December) and I barely decorated - just some candles and photographs.

Longest brunch line/wait in NYC?

It's still like that and every time I walk by, I have to stop myself from asking those people why in the h*ll they're standing outside in the freezing cold. I've only been there once for lunch and paid $35 for a decent salad and pretty crappy glass of wine.

snacks and drinks for a group on a Saturday night?

Try Pierre Loti. I did this recently with about 6 people at the Chelsea location and it was great. We made a reservation and sat at a table, which may work for you (if there's a table/space in the back). There's also a location on Irving Place, which, if I recall correctly, is somewhat more loungy (with couches), so that might work also.

Ilili is also a good idea - I've done the same thing there.

Where's your fav Italian in the east and west village or downtown on the moderate side $36/ person

This is true. I spend 25 minutes trying to get through to them the other day. That must be a least $36 of my time! The OP said appetizer and entree for $36, so i assumed that didn't include drinks, tax, tip, etc. May have been too literal of a reading...

I like the Dell'anima/L'Artusi/L'Apicio restaurants. And there's always Babbo.

Fancy Cocktails before Babbo

Yes, I thought about those places, but I'm afraid they won't work for 5 people. Doesn't have to be within a block or two - a 10-15 minute walk would be ok (any further would limit what shoes I can wear :)

Fancy Cocktails before Babbo

Hello, looking for a place to get a nice cocktail before dinner at Babbo. Saturday night in November, there will be 5 of us, dinner is at 9. Ideally a place where we can sit, talk, and have a quality drink or two.

looking for casual midtown 45th-59th-- pastas, small plates...

I was just there this past Saturday night (the one on 15th and 8th) and had a lovely time. There were 4 of us (we vary in age from 30 - 65) - we shared a bottle of Turkish red wine and ordered a bunch of small plates - hummus, grilled octopus, shrimp, tuna tartare, houlomi (sp?) cheese, some other dip, and it came out to $35 a person!! Everything was delicious, the service was great, and you can't beat that price!

Looking for downtown winebar with delicious bites

I don't remember much (must have been a good birthday!), but perusing the menu right now reminds me that we had lamb sliders and a bunch of the crostini (the ricotta and honey one was amazing).

Looking for downtown winebar with delicious bites

I did this a couple of years back at Anfora and it was great - got there at 5pm when they opened and commandeered a few booths, which allowed everyone to sit, drink, and snack. Service was excellent also. I know they recently changed management, so hopefully this will not change.

Lupa or L'artusi?

My now-husband took me to L'artusi last winter for my birthday and I thought it was fantastic - we had a small table upstairs, delicious food, and an amazing bottle of wine, making it pretty romantic in my opinion. I also really enjoyed dell 'anima - we ate at the bar, which is romantic to me, but maybe not to others. Peasant is also very romantic (probably the most out of those three).

illili in gramercy - i was there with about 12 ladies for my bachelorette party and we had a really good time - shared numerous small plates and several bottles of wine. and i was definitely less than $100 per person.

ITHACA - John Thomas Steakhouse still good?

I have very fond memories of my graduation dinner at John Thomas 15 years ago. I don't know if it was because of the special occasion, my youth, the ambiance, or if it was also because the food was really good. My husband and I are coming up to the Finger Lakes (from NYC) at the end of the month for a week of camping. We will mostly be cooking by the campfire, but I want to make time for a few meals out (Dano's, Stonecat, Just a Taste) and wanted to know if John Thomas is (still) good. If not, I would rather not ruin my sweet, youthful memories...

My challenge for Friday

Dinner for a friend's birthday this Friday - 5 people, 7pm, below 42nd street on the West side, entrees under $25 and, as my friend explained, must be "clean" (ie - they must have some vegan and gluten-free options). And also something to us (meat lovers) to eat. Thanks.

Cocktail Party for 60-70 People in Manhattan - suggestions?

3West is a club in that area that has a really nice terrace (i think it's enclosed) that could work for that size. i looked to have my wedding there - we had a similar-sized guest list, and were planning to have cocktail hour on that terrace, but the rest of the space was just too "big" for us (which is why i'm thinking just cocktails could work).

a few other places to check out: the yale club (i've never been, but i know they accomodate all party sizes), the bar downstairs at the andaz hotel on 40th and 5th (gorgeous bar).

Laid Back/Quiet(ish) Bar for 30th Birthday

I did this 2 years ago at Anfora. Got there early (6ish) with a friend and commandeered a couch area - friends came and went and were able to order drinks and snacks. Staff was very friendly and accomodating.

upscale bachelorette dinner suggestions?

I had my bachelorette dinner there and it was great - we had a nice, round table, a very knowledgable (and patient waiter), and the food was delicious. We ended up just sharing appetizers and that was enough (with 3 bottles of wine), but they have a large menu that suits all tastes and restrictions (we had vegetarians, gluten-free, etc).

Good restaurant on Upper West Side for older, conservative eaters?

Recipe is fantastic. Tiny place and not sure if they take reservations, so try to get there early. Portions are not huge, but the food is fresh, delicately prepared, and very tasty. Cotta is also tasty, but agree re: the noise level (as mentioned above). Fred's is a great place too, but different - it's more bar/comfort food. There are seats at the bar and a few tables in front and then a pretty big dining room in the back, which is nice and cozy - really friendly service and great food (burgers, mac and cheese, etc), but more casual than the other places.

Anyone have any suggestions for where to eat tonight - something casual, reasonably priced (entrees around $20 or less), West 50s (or nearby), with outside seating? Thanks.

Pera Restaurant in Soho, anyone been?

I was just there for the first time on Friday night. The outside patio looked really nice - too bad for the crazy thunderstorm that had just passed by. The cocktail list was quite limited, so I had a regular martini, which was made well. Our group was not the most adventurous, but we managed ot share some appetizers - prawns (2 per serving, very tasty), calamari salad (chopped too small for my liking, couldn't really taste anything), the chicken roll (wrapped in phyllo, quite good) and then I shared the lamb kabob - the meat was very nice and tender, cooked just right, and came with a nice, tangy sauce. We were sitting at the "chef's table" and the chef came out and welcomed us, so I was hoping for some samples, tastes, but nothing ever came. Overall, a pretty solid place, but not at the top of my list.
