Russian restaurant recs?

I was also going to recommend Veselka. Given the former USSR, the food is the same. The borscht is excellent there, as are the pelmeni. I was also thinking of Russian Vodka Room - more bar/loungey, but I have eaten there (granted, after several cheap vodka drinks) and have always enjoyed it (and the staff and piano players are usually very authentic). I have never been to Mari Vanna, so cannot comment.

recommendation for good food and great sangria

Second Calle Ocho.

Takeout in Midtown East 1st Av/ 55th st

Luscious Thai on 61st and 1st (right across from Bed, Bath, and Beyond) should deliver to you - they're pretty decent, as far as takeout Thai. There's also a good falafel place that just opened up on the other side of the street - I think it's called Jerusalem Grill (large portions, fresh, and cheap).

Places that serve punch

I was just reacquainted with the Prohibition Punch at Campbell Apartment - not as good as I remember it, but if you have $20 and want a different/unique atmosphere, it's quite nice.

FAIRFIELD - WHERE TO EAT DINNER BEFORE HALF-MARATHON AND BREAKFAST AFTERWARDS?

Hi All - we ended up eating dinner at Quattro Pazzi, which was perfect - salad and a bowl of pasta, delicious, reasonably priced, and a cute place. We had brunch at Ash Creek Saloon, which was also nice, although I was surprised that there was nobody there. Is brunch not a big deal up there? I live in NYC where brunch seems to be the most important meal of the weekend. Anyway, I got my Bloody Mary and French Toast, which was all I wanted (and sat outside, which was a pleasant bonus). Thanks for all of the help!

FAIRFIELD - WHERE TO EAT DINNER BEFORE HALF-MARATHON AND BREAKFAST AFTERWARDS?

Great - thanks so much - will make sure to write it down!

FAIRFIELD - WHERE TO EAT DINNER BEFORE HALF-MARATHON AND BREAKFAST AFTERWARDS?

Thanks so much. There are 3 of us and we plan on eating relatively early (so as to ensure a good night's sleep), so we should be ok. Good luck to you as well!

FAIRFIELD - WHERE TO EAT DINNER BEFORE HALF-MARATHON AND BREAKFAST AFTERWARDS?

Hi All,

My friend and I will be running the half-marathon in Fairfield next weekend. We are looking for a delicious, low-key restaurant in the area for Sat evening where we can have a good, hearty meal (probably pasta and chicken, and the like). Also, any good places to have brunch (and a much-needed Bloody Mary) the following morning? Thanks.

Next weekend - Warm & intimate daytime coffee shop/wine bar/restaurant in Midtown or Village to reconnect with an old friend

Hudson Hotel - many comfy chairs and couches near the reception area and also in the library bar. The garden should be open also.

Afternoon Cocktail (maybe outside?) Today Near Union Square

Anyone have a place that comes to mind? Nothing fancy - just a place to have a drink and maybe even sit outside. Thanks.

Bachelorette party for 30-somethings, Mexican/Thai/Indian/Italian

I am planning a very similar party for my friend at Otto next weekend - I can let you know how it goes. They do make you sign a contract which specifically prohibits you from bringing decorations and making speeches, which I thought was a little weird. But, hopefully, it will be a good time!

Dinner with Families to Celebrate Engagement

I really Crispo for those types of events.

Please Read - Best Big Burger in NYC

I keep meaning to get there....

Where can a couple of 40-yo married guys go for drinks?

Blue Smoke - at the bar.

Finally! Good, inexpensive food comes to the Upper (Upper) East Side

Yes, they definitely should have done more promotion and marketing. Btw, I used my Mastercard there.

Dinner tonight near 22nd and park?

Via Emilia. Cash only.

Finally! Good, inexpensive food comes to the Upper (Upper) East Side

I too am on the M15 line and got there within 10 minutes from East 68th. As for the delivery service, I think most of the fun is going there, pushing your cart down the wide aisles, and tasting all the samples!

Finally! Good, inexpensive food comes to the Upper (Upper) East Side

Just took a trip up there on Sunday - got some dried fruit, brownie mix, chewing gum, a rotisserie chicken, fresh produce, and some other items. Between my mom and me, we each carried a cloth shopping bag, walked over to the M15 on Second Ave (after getting a slice at Patsy's, of course) and made it home just fine. It was quite the fun adventure!

Fresh Pasta - Carnegie Hill/Yorkville?

The Gourmet Garage near me (in the east 60s) has it, so I'm sure the other branches have it also. I've had the lobster ravioli from there and it was quite tasty.

Best Sports Bar near McSorleys

Second Prof Thom's - I like their steak salad, chicken fingers, and fried mac and cheese. Oh, and the waffle fries, of course.

sick and stuck on the UES

Hi, I usually get Kar Won when I'm sick - their roast pork noodle soup is $5 and very tasty. They may now have a minimum for delivery, but still worth it. Please report on what you end up getting - I live in your area and could always use suggestions.

Lucky Cheng's.. worth the trip?

Hmmm... if you're not from NY and are not familiar with drag (ie - have never sat next to a group of drag queens on the subway, as I'm sure most NYers have), then it might be a fun experience (after several drinks, that is). It is definitely not the place to go for quality Chinese food or even decent service. The people ARE rude, but that is part of the "charm" (or so they say). Let us know - please report back.

Looking for source for good Russian Coffee Cake

Hmmm I'm with the person who knew nothing about a Russian coffee cake (maybe that was even me?). Could you describe it please? Many times people refer to something as "Russian," when it is not (although, it may still exist and be available)....

dessert near Fifth Ave or Yorkville

Two Little Red Hens is on 86th and 2nd (not Lex).

Best bars/taverns to go to in a snowstorm

Waterfront Ale House is classic. I was at Donnybrook on Clinton Street on Sat night and it was pretty nice also.

Quiet, inexpensive Italian or Continental in Murray Hill or UES with an elderly couple?

Via Emilia is good, but may be a little too loud for an elderly couple. Also, it's somewhat more trendy and modern than some of the other traditional places. But, def tasty and reasonably priced.

Il Vaggabondo.

quiet, not too pricey italian, downtown

Via Emilia, Malatesta Trattoria, Da Andrea.
