Can someone help me figure out where the 6 T. of butter goes in this recipe? Am I missing something?

Hi run, the champagne goes in the buttercream. The picture looked so good, though, I wanted to make it. You're right the recipe is off. Oh well. Thanks anyway.

Can someone help me figure out where the 6 T. of butter goes in this recipe? Am I missing something?

The recipe is called Easter Champagne Cake with Buttercream and Raspberries. It comes from the 2011 "Cakes" calendar "A year of Scrumptious recipes. I have written the directions here verbatim.

Here is the list of ingredients for the cake
6 T. butter
4 egg yolks
4 egg whites
1/2 cup sugar
1 t. vanilla extract
1 3/4 cup flour
1 t. bkg pwd
2 T butter, melted
1 T flour for the pan

Here are the directions: Preheat oven to 350F. Using melted butter and flour grease and lightly dust a 9" springform pan. For the cake mixture, melt 6 T. of butter in the microwave. In 2 medium mixing bowls separate eggs. Beat the yolks with the sugar and vanilla using electric mixer until foamy. Beat egg whites until they form stiff peaks. Fold egg whites into egg yolk mixture along with flour and baking powder. Turn batter in prepared pan and bake for 30-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove from oven, cool slightly in pan. Remove from pan and allow to dry on rack.

Do you like Thai? Wat Dong Moon Lek Noodle on Fountain is always good. Excellent service and you can eat for about 10.00 per person.

Hi there, the recipe sounds great. I think you are thinking of scurvy, though. Rickets is caused by lack of vitamin D or severe malnutrition during early childhood.

Wat Dong Moon Lek's pork belly with crispy spicy green beans

This dish is all I ever get when going to Leks. It's the basil, greenbean, crispy porky and spicy-limey goodness working so well together that keeps me coming back for more. The owner once suggested I try it the Thai way with a fried egg on top. Wow, that was really super tasty.

Am I the only one who doesn't get Brent's?

I live in Silverlake and for me Brent's is a breakfast place or a place from which to get catering for a deli spread. I certainly wouldn't go there just to get a pastrami sandwich.

Food Truck Sound-Off

Oh wow, thank you! The truck was in Silverlake at an event at The Complex. I still think about that maple roasted pork crepe.

Food Truck Sound-Off

I had a really really good crepe recently from one of the trucks. Maple roasted pork, caramelized onions, Spring greens, and roasted walnuts nestled in a crepe. I wish I could find that truck again. When I did an internet search for a crepe truck, the one I found did not have this particular dish on the menu so I don't think it was the correct one. Anyone know the truck I am talking about?

Seeking Best Baguette au Jambon in LA

I enjoyed one at LA Mill in Silverlake. Just crunchy Baguette, good French ham, and butter. Comes with their handmade chips.

Know of a Good Butcher- Silverlake/ Echo Park area?

Yes, but it's Harris Ranch select, so that should account for something.

Gorbals

Does anyone know if Gorbals restaurant is open again?

Bad brown basmati rice

This is the second time I have bought brown basmati rice from Trader Joe's. The first time, the rice was quite good. The rice from the subsequent bag, however, tastes musty and moldy, really unpleasant. The rice looks fine in the bag and I can't figure out why it tastes so bad. I have cooked it twice now and the same thing happened. Anyone familiar with rice have any idea why this may be?

Agra Indian kitchen report

The restaurant has seriously been going downhill at the Silverlake Agra. From the service to the flavor it is as if no one really cares about what happens there. It used to be so good. Now the food is uninspired and the people who work there look depressed. The last time I ate there, which was a couple of weeks ago, I got depressed too. The food was lukewarm, tiny portions, boring. I won't be going back.

Loteria Stingy on the Salsa

I ate lunch for the first time at Loteria on Hollywood Blvd. the other day during my lunch hour. I ordered the plate of taquitos and a side order of vegetables. The taquitos had barely any filling, the vegetables were good but small serving. When I left I was still hungry. The bill came to about $13 with tip.

Green markets, vanilla beans, and mole

I didn't realize this was the Mexico board. I'll try the LA board. Thank you.

Green markets, vanilla beans, and mole

I am looking to buy mole powder in Los Angeles and am looking for recommendations. I used to make my own mole but it is so labor intensive. Looking at the Mole Don Pancho I noticed that the first ingredient is sugar. Is the Don Pancho a very sweet mole? Are all commercial powders sweet?

East COAST Chinese? Egg Rolls!! Where? Thanks

In my many years in California I have never been able to find a New York style eggroll . I tried Gengis Cohen on some of the recs here and found it totally unlike any kind of New York chinese place. The Gengis eggrolls were on the smallish side and full of chopped light-colored cabbage and black speckles. Maybe it was just the day I went, but the overwhelming taste was of ground black pepper.

Tumeric Root & Daun Salam Leaves / Where?

I've seen tumeric root at the asian market on Sunset Blvd. just east of Echo Park Ave. They have all kinds of leaves too but I don't know if they're what you need.

Cafe Bizou in Sherman Oaks

Oh YEAH, the roasted chicken is sooo good. The buttery, balsamic reduction on baked crispy skinned chicken is delicious. Some say this is not a destination place. Thats ok. For me, it is though.

Cafe Bizou in Sherman Oaks

We love Cafe Bizou, the food and the price, its our birthday dinner favorite. Never been to brunch though so thanks for the description.
