La Peniche

There are much better breakfast places in town. La Peniche has always been a disappointment for me.

How is Dooky Chase these days?

I advise AGAINST Dooky Chase. I attended one of those "private events" several months ago and was very impressed with the quality of the food and the ability to serve 15 people with one server.

I scheduled another event two months in advance with Leah herself; a brunch for 20. Less than 18 hours before the event, I received a call saying there was no way she would be able to handle the party and would have to cancel. This was a month after invitations had gone out and the night before the event.

I was told that "she'd make it up to me" but this was a one-time event and I had to plead my way into another restaurant with a large party the next morning.

I highly recommend avoiding this seeming "money pit" of an institution. There are plenty of other worthy restaurants in the city that could benefit from your charity and support.

August Shocker

I was not disappointed by the food but rather the service. Having dined at August roughly 20 times since it opened, the past 3 times this year have been miserable experiences. The food has always been exceptional, in my opinion.

My guest and I had the tasting menu with wine pairings with wine served 25 minutes before the accompanying dish with no reason or excuse from the waiter other than "the Chef is still working on it." This happened twice during a 5 course meal.

I was a great fan of August when it opened and loved the space for parties; I don't think I'll return.

La Spiga Recipes

Does anyone know if La Spiga is giving away their recipes? I'm addicted to their sticky buns!

Need help with rehearsal dinner

The penthouse at August is perfect for 40 people -- it's a beautiful location and incredible food. They have a balcony that looks out over the city as well. If you have more than 40, they have a larger space that can accommodate much more than that but the penthouse is a more intimate room. Good luck!

DECENT TOASTER? Is there such a thing?

I've been using a the KitchenAid ProLine toaster for a few months now and it is exceptional. I have never had a problem and everything toasts beautifully. http://www.kitchenaid.com/catalog/pro...

Eating New Orleans dry...

I would check out Longbranch in Abita Springs. Juan's Flying Burrito is good and really inexpensive. Lola's is a hidden gem that I would not miss -- their seafood paella is great!

Best Eats in Hilton Head?

I'm travelling to Hilton Head Island in the next few weeks and wanted to find the best restaurant in town -- ideally, not completely overrun by tourists. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
