Craigie on Main- Recent Faves?
Dear OpinionatedChef,
Look forward to hearing what your meal is like. I haven't been since they moved and am hoping to treat my BFF to a birthday meal in June. Maybe the six course tasting.
Special occasion fine dining - with a baby - Cambridge
I would consider East Coast Grill in Kenmore Square or Union Bar and Grill in the South End.
Given that it is graduation, it goes without saying that you will want a reservation! Both of these places will take a reservation.
Looking for good Back Bay restaurant with comfortable bar for solo diner
I would not recommend Tico. The bar is too scene-y after work. You don't want folks handing drinks and money over your shoulders while you are eating. And their food is barely past so-so.
Salty Pig is a bit different, nice vibe.
Pigalle, not to eat at the bar, but OK to have a table on your own.
Meyers+Chang -- great bar for eating alone....the one with a view of the kitchen!
Business dinner near Pru
Sorellino or Grill 23.
Grill 23 is pretty Boston-ish, to a New Yorker and your husband can play the "Robert Parker and Spencer drank here" card.
Graduation lunch location?
How many peeps?
Budget?
Did you search the board for similar questions, say from last year?
February 2012 Openings and Closings
I had lunch at the new Samurai Express in the Park Square Bldg late last week (Feb 9 or 10?).
First of all the place is so poorly organized that my sense of order was scandalized. Why were 12-15 people milling around clutching menus? Had they ordered? Were they waiting for food to be prepared? How long might *I* have to wait? Why did I have to order from one person and pay at another place, if both staff had registers? Why was there a registered labelled "Order Here" with no one working there?
Plus, a friend called in an order and got there to discover the order was still sitting on a pad near the phone and had never made it to the kitchen.
I got their "Sushi/Sashimi Combo" which, despite it's name, was made up of 4 pieces of yellowtail sushi (they mean nigiri) and 6 pieces of yellowtail roll. This cost $11.50 and is a good buy since the four pieces of nigiri would have cost $2.75 each of $11 all by themselves. Like I got the roll for free.
Not sure why their combos are the same sort of fish. In addition to the combo I had, they offer it with tuna and salmon.
Bottom line, if Shaw's supermarket sushi is a 5 out of 10, this was a 6.5 (but I only tried one thing!)
Couldn't help remembering that for $20 I could have had lunch at Oishii. #JustSaying
Advice needed for a special dinner! [repost]
Thanks for letting us know. Glad you had wonderful evening.
Birthday dinner restaurant
Rendezvous is a great idea.
My other idea is Union Bar and Grill in the South End.
Carrot Cake in Boston?
Did you know today is National Carrot Cake day?? http://wp.me/p1DAeX-2jW
Romantic Dinner, staying in Beacon Hill
Let us know how you make out at Bistro du Midi, or wherever you end up.
Happy anniversary, too!
Romantic Dinner, staying in Beacon Hill
Grotto is good, but not particularly festive, romantic or quiet. It is, however, a very good deal.
Bistro du Midi is currently on my Top Ten list here in Boston.
And Toscano on Charles Street is lovely. Great food, elegant service, yet a down to earth vibe. (Be careful, there is another Toscano's out by Fenway, that is a whole different experience.)
Both Bistro du Midi and Toscano will take a reservation, which I think is essential for a relaxing and enjayble Saturday dinner.
Spring Break in Boston
I am so glad you will be able to visit Boston and I am sure you will get some great suggestions here.
Mine is Artu in the North End. Very affordable as well as innovative. At lunch they do a lamb sandwich with eggplant that is amazing.
I couldn't help but notice that you asked similar questions on the relevant boards for your prevous trips to San Francisco and to Washington. I also noticed that you received some great ideas and what I would consider excellent guidance. But you never reported back, you never thanked anyone or shared where you ultimately chose to eat. A lot of people put a fair amount of thought into thinking about your situation to come up with ideas. Would you let us know how you make out, where you eat and how our recommendations worked out?
Advice needed for a special dinner! [repost]
If it were me and my two college buddies, I'd go to Erbaluce. Options for the adventuresome, yet enough traditional items. If you call and talk to them, and explain why it is a special night, they will go out of their way to treat you well, without getting all sappy on you.
Taranta is very good, but it is so crowded on weeknights, that I can't even imagine a Saturday.
Sel de la Terre is not special enough. And they are subject to nights where they just can't get it together and epic-ly fail.
Prezza is very good, with elegant service and atmosphere - but it is like every other high type northern Italian restaurant out there.
Dinner before the Sunday evening C's game - North End
+1 for Antico Forno.
Last time I was there (this summer) they took a reservation.
Obviates the "x" factor of waiting!
I loved their baked pasta with ricotta and sausage.
Nice beer list and good food near Back bay/Copley
Parish Cafe at 361 Boylston, just west of Arlington.
fresh fish retail markets
+1 for Connolly's.
Because they are so good, I haven't gotten around to trying Intershell.
North End on a Thursday night?
+1 for Marco. Good service, very good food and I like that they are upstairs.
Looking for Mail Order food items!
My buddy, Maggie Battista, makes holiday gift boxes full of local delicacies. Maybe this is an easy way to get some of what you want/

Along Route 1 South in Danvers Peabody Saugus--anything?
Sake is very good, though it looks pretty run down from the outside.
FWIW - it is on the northbound side, so you'd have to turn around.
Looking for a restaurant with a very nice "relish tray" and good shrimp dip, too.
Cottage cheese and saltine crackers are the give away.
Another idea is Brackett's in Rockport.

I bet if you had a soft-sided insulated bag, you could pack it empty and flat in your suitcase.
Here is another idea -- there is a Legal Seafood in Framingham, right off the Mass Pike (I-90). Probably more than halfway to Auburn. Maybe there is something there you could pick up? If you have a way to heat it, how about a couple of gallons of chowder?
