Crab Cakes in Montgomery County

The Old Bay recipe I have gives 4 cakes per pound. I'm thinking about mini crab cakes, and wondering about how many I could get per pound. Insights, anyone?

Crab Cakes in Montgomery County

Best place to get lump crab in Baltimore County/Annapolis area? I will be cooking for a crew of rellies prior to a wedding, and would love to try the Old Bay crabcake recipe on them.

Etiquette on bringing cake to restaurant [moved from Manhattan board]

Thanks for your replies. I ended up too busy with the trip and arrangements etc. to even think about a cake, so we ordered desserts there. In retrospect, I would have liked to have had a cake but c'est la vie! I did order a banner I created quickly and emailed to Kinko's to enlarge, who delivered it for free to the restaurant, where it was put up -- super cheap and nice effect, everyone signed it. The restaurant was excellent, with two sides open to the street it was kind of al fresco (lots of sidewalk dining which was adorable but we had a big table inside for our group) I recommend the gnocchi and especially the pear/cheese salad, thin slices of crisp Asian pear with thin slices of a dry yellow cheese I can't remember, and fresh herbs sprinkled.

And Phantom was great, a memorable day for everyone.

Photo icing

I am considering using edible photo icing to decorate cupcakes for a rehearsal dinner, the idea being a fun pic of the bride and groom. Has anyone used this product? There are numerous vendors and I am not sure of what to look for to find a trusted source.

Also, I'm open to recipes for delicious cupcakes ... I will probably make 100 or so for the event.

Seeking menu concepts for wed. rehearsal dinner

Thanks for the feedback so far. These are all good ideas. The place is Annpolis, MD (far from home for us) and the time is mid-summer. I had already emailed the groom's grandma for the recipe for his favorite dessert -- rhubarb crunch bars. The bride doesn't care for seafood, so I think that rules out the regional favorite crab cakes.

Seeking menu concepts for wed. rehearsal dinner

I am working ahead to be ready for the rehearsal dinner for my son's wedding. We'd like to host it ourselves at the vacation home we'll be renting for this out-of-town event. I am looking for some menu ideas for serving a crowd of 50 or so. Think not-too-complicated, pleasing a variety of taste buds, not too expensive.

Both the bride and groom are fairly easy to please -- but no seafood and no bananas. Thinking about the groom's favorite for a dessert -- rhubarb crunch.

Help!

Is the world's best coffee made from animal excrement?

When I was a kid, I used to read westerns and assumed that since the settlers on the wagon trail went to gather buffalo chips to make coffee, that they made coffee with percolated buffalo chips.Apparently, they use the dried dung for firewood. Yum, that fresh aroma ...

What bakery am I thinking of?

No -- it lists 6 restaurants in the company: that Balthazar, Schiller's Liquor Bar on the lower east side, Lucky Srtike continental on Grand St., Pravda caviar and vodka in Soho, Pastis french in the meatpacking district and Morandi italian in the West Village.

Etiquette on bringing cake to restaurant [moved from Manhattan board]

We are planning on celebrating my husband's 50th birthday at Malatesta Trattoria in Manhattan. I'd like to get a decorated cake from Billy's Bakery and do the whole candle thing. What is the etiquette -- are restaurants cool with this? Any special tipping guidelines or whatnot? I'd appreciate input.
