Need help for lunch on Route 1 North of Boston?
I live in Newburyport and am meeting people who live down in Brookline/Belmont area. Any good ideas for a midweek lunch that is somewhere in between? Pretty much any kind of food but it needs to be somewhere that it is reasonable to sit and have an informal meeting - no loud/crazy/takeout only joints. Someone had suggested Naked Fish in Lynnfield but it appears to be gone. Thoughts???

Need reservation for 8 people on Sat...
Thanks for the thoughts! I have been to Holder, and liked it, but didn't love it - (. not a lot of soul, I thought). I had thought about Laloux, but had never heard of Pop, which might be a fun alternative!
Need reservation for 8 people on Sat...
We are a group of 30-somethings (some former MTLers, some visitors), reuniting this weekend to celebrate a birthday. In the past we've eaten at Chasse et Peche, L'Express, Au Petit Extra, Pinxco (sp??) and many others, including the see-and-be-seen St Laurent scene, which we won't go back to. We're looking for a place with great food - probably French but could be creatively interpreted. In addition, it is a pretty lively group, so a fun atmosphere is certainly a plus. The challenge is that we need a reservation for eight people this Saturday. In terms of price, the places mentioned above are all fine - wouldn't be able to go to the absolute top of the cost. In terms of location, we are open to most things - Old Port, Plateau, downtown, etc, but probably want to stay on the island. Any thoughts for places that are likely to be able to accommodate our group?
Great meal at Local 188 (Portland, ME)
We too had an amazingly pleasant meal there yesterday. It was brunch and we have several young kids with us, which always tasks a restaurant. The waiter was great - giving good advice and being patient with our indecisive crowd, and when one item had to go back (it was undercooked), he apologized profusely and told us it was on the house. I can't speak to the dinner food, but everything on the brunch menu was very well done - excellent and perfectly cooked eggs, a huge and delicious muffelata sandwich, hearty potato-leek soup, and an enormous pancake that was more like a birthday cake. Young kids enjoyed it, my picky gourmet mother loved it, and again, the service definitely brought it up a notch!
Garde Manger or Holder?
Thanks for the heads up - that was the direction I was leaning! We are hitting some more serious eating spots over the weekend so this was really a chance add a little more people watching to the eating. Is a reservation a must, or can we find space at the bar and just order from there? (4 of us)?
Thanks!
Garde Manger or Holder?
This will be an out-of-towner girls dinner, and we are looking for a lively fun evening with the focus as much on enjoying the scene and drinks as the food. Possibly we would even try to sit and eat/drink at a bar, rather than try to get a reservation for a table. We would like to be in the old port and these both sounded good. Which one do people recommend?
Needed: Great food, drink and people-watching in Montreal
I am a former resident and longtime visitor to Montreal, coming in this weekend with a small group of 30-something women. They have never been before, and I promised to plan a fun itinerary for them. So there will be lunch at L'Express, and another at Santropol, just because I love them, but I am trying to think of two diverse, good, moderately priced dinners that will show off the fun of the city. Here's the kicker - I didn't realize it was Grand Prix weekend! I have never been to the city during Grand Prix - I have heard it is a blast but crazy busy. So that probably adds an element of challenge.
I am looking for suggestions for dinners in fun neighborhoods - Plateau, Vieux Port if we could find a good place, wherever. Interesting ethnic cuisine would be welcome but I would want it to have a Montreal flair! The goal would be to find lively and fun places where we can stay for the fun of people watching as well as good food.
Any thoughts???
