San Diego New Places Opening Thread Numero Tres.

I actually live in Tierrasanta and love the fish bucket. Not sure where he gets his fish, but you can order from him to pick up fresh fish the next day. I've done it a few times with great results. Esp when I don't feel like driving out of my area.

Looking for interesting cheeses to try

I ran across this cheese at my local cheese shop. Prima Donna. It was like a parmesan, gouda mix. I almost ate the whole block myself. YUMMM!

Uses for fig jam

One of my favorite pizzas! Light layer of fig jam, fresh mozzarella, Proscuitto, Bake. Top with fresh Arugula after it comes out of the oven. Yum!! Go light on the fig jam otherwise it tastes like dessert!

Food delivery for new mom in Oceanside

What about one of those places that you go to prepare meals to bring home. You could call them and see if they have a delivery option, or at the worst, you could pay and she picks up the meals. Like Dream Dinners, or something similar.

Visiting and need a resto for Fish-Veggie only eater for Birthday dinner

Alchemy has a night that they do a vegetarian only menu. Not sure what night that is. Great food, no view, though.

Kearny Mesa area dining

I've actually stayed at that Residence with my kids. They actually have a small dinner every night. Things like taco bar, soup night, etc. Half the time we just stayed there and ate. Convoy is a great food place too, but if your kids are picky, they may not go for it. Fillippis pizza is right there. If I think of others, I'll edit this.

Restaurants for Catering and Fundraising

My son's school is putting together a summer carnival for the first time. At my old school, we would have a local pizza place that would bring a warmer and sell pizza and drinks. They would also donate back 10% of the total to the school. Also Carvel would have a small ice cream cart they would bring out and do the same thing. Has anyone seen anything like in San Diego?

SInce it's our first time, I have no idea how many people will show.

Even if we can't find someone who will donate back, I need to find something! Thank you so much!

Basalmic Vinegar

What is a good quality basalmic vinegar availible that won't break the bank? I love the thick, rich kind.
Looking for one that is available widely, or can be purchased on the net. Thanks!

A raw broccoli dish has changed my life. Broccoli ceviche, if you will.

This is perfect. I was looking for something different than my usual roasted broccoli. I'll report back when we have it for dinner!

San Diego Food Community

What about something like Dinner with Six Strangers at Alchemy? I don't know if that is anything you would be interested in.

Busy parent Meals

Love this idea! My husband works 80+ hours a week, so it's usually just me. I really think it's important to do dinner together, but a lot of times, it is not possible. I always eat with my boys, no matter which combination of the three it is. All 5 of us might not be together at one time, but the combinations make it work. Thanks everyone!

Busy parent Meals

I've had a pannini maker on my wish list for a while! Glad to hear you use it. Unfortunately, my oven does not have a timer! That would be great if it did! I think I will finally buy the pannini press. Just hated adding another appliance to my myriad of appliances!

Business dinner for 60 people

Thanks everyone! I actually looked into most of your suggestions and the prices wouldn't work out, or there was some other reason it would not work. We eneded up (tentively) booking Alchemy for the whole night. It seems like it will work within our budget. I will send an update once the event happens on how the venue worked out, in case others want to use it too. I love the restaurant, so I have high hopes.

Domino's new Parmesean Bread Bites...any good?

They came free with my pizza this week. They were ok, but I will never order them myself. Lack a lot of flavor.

Busy parent Meals

I work part time and have three active kids. They play multiple sports, etc. I find my self out of the house from 5-8 most nights of the week. I am home for time inbetween after dropping someone off/picking them up. So, it works out usually that two kids will eat at 6 and when the other gets home will eat at 7. Then it flips around the next day.
So, I am looking for meals that I can make ahead when I get home from work around 2pm. I make a lot of soups, casseroles, sandwiches, things like that which can be made ahead. I'll make a pot of turkey and white bean soup to eat later on, so things like that. I do own a crockpot and have mixed feelings about it. I probably only use it once a month.
Anyone have some good recipes to share? I am getting tired of my regular rotation! Thanks CHownders!

Flanken Style Short ribs

I made your recipe last night and it was delicious! My kids loved it and my husband wished we had more! I could definately see how different marinades would work too. THanks pete k!

Flanken Style Short ribs

Does anyone have a recipe for flaken style ribs that aren't Korean style? Just looking to switch it up too! Thanks!

Bacon Jam

Here is the recipe I made:
http://www.notquitenigella.com/2009/10/08/bacon-jam-your-wildest-dreams-come-true/
It was so good!

Suggestions for pizza topping combinations, please!

Fig jam, fresh mozz, prosciutto, and arugula put on after it comes out.

Flanken Style Short ribs

That sounds good! And simple. Thanks! Keep them coming!

Flanken Style Short ribs

Hi! I just bought some flaken style short ribs at the market today for the first time. Just because they looked good! Does anyone have any advice on cooking? I know there are a lot of Korean short rib recieps out there, and I open to that too, but just looking for some recipes or favorite methods! Thanks!

What did you or your Mom make when you were sick?

Chicken and stars soup, egg drop soup and strawberry banana jello.

Blood orange juice

I've gotten it too at TJ's. I was there today and they did not have any. Boo!

Skirt Steak

Northgate was where I was thinking you could get some decent skirt steak too!

Skirt Steak

I am going to look into Skirt/flap thing. My internet research isn't doing much, so I am heading to the butcher!

Skirt Steak

Really? Maybe it's where I have bought it! I'm going to check out the places mentioned.

Skirt Steak

I have had the same problem! I am from the east coast and when I moved here asked several butchers. One tried to tell me it was the same thing, but after some research I know it's not!Flap Meat is thicker and tougher. What about some of the Latin Markets? I'm sure it's super expensive at whole foods.

Business dinner for 60 people

Alas, the residents are paying the $65pp too! We usually make the attendings pay a little more to offset the price. No free food for us!

Business dinner for 60 people

OOh, Jsix would be great too! I haven't been to Mr A's , but the website makes it look great. I took a look at their catering menu and was impressed. We are planning for a Saturday night in June, but hope its not too late to book somewhere. It's a going away for the graduating medical residents at the hospital. They usually do a slideshow and each resident makes a speech, etc so it has to be semi-private. Thanks again for the responses.

Business dinner for 60 people

Thanks BC! This is actually the place I was looking at online last night. I am deinatelychecking them out.
