Recommended dishes at Roy's Restaurant?
Thanks to all the 'hounds that made some comments. We had a wonderful dinner. They were pretty quick although our table wasn't ready for our reservation time. After we got seated everything else went smoothly.
I back the suggestion for the Misoyaki Butterfish. The fish did in fact melt in your mouth. It was great. The fish is on the lightweight side. So if you want to feel stuffed that wouldn't be the dish for you. Maybe try the Ahi or Salmon.
We did have some ribs as part of a sampler. Not sure what kind of ribs they were but they were delicious. Thanks for all the suggestions!
Best wishes for the New Year!
FIVE CROWNS RESTAURANT
Haha what's up with the old folks?
I haven't been to the Five Crowns. Can you comment on if it is the same as the Lawry's in Beverly Hills? I believe they are under the same ownership. I've been to Lawry's a hand full of times. Hoping the experience and food is the same so I don't have to drive out as far any longer!
Thanks in advanced!

Wow its good I checked Chowhound before I left for lunch. Thanks! I went to Lee's. So glad there is one in this area now. Don't have to drive out to Irvine or Garden Grove anymore :-). Honestly, I haven't checked out the new shopping center much. I'm also happy to find NY Upper Crust and JalapeƱo's right next door to Lee's. From the logo I think it is the same Upper Crust as the Laguna Niguel one. Woo Hoo!

Thanks so far to all who have responded. I will recommend getting the ribs to the group!

Boy! You Chowhounds are fast! It must be a testament on how good that Misoyaki Butterfish really is! I am trying that one!
I do want to try the prix fixe menu but I think our party is too large to qualify to take advantage. I believe I read something on their menu saying it is not available to "large" groups. We definitely have a large group.
Thanks for the quick replies so far!

Hey Chowhounders,
I have put together a dinner party at Roy's (Newport Beach) and just wanted to know if anyone has any recommended dishes. The majority of the group has not yet been there so I wanted to have some recommendations ready if anyone asked. I have been there once and had the Blackened Ahi and the choco souffle. And yes I will be getting the souffle :-)
Any other recommendations? Thanks and Happy Holidays!
Oh also anyone have any memorable wines there?
Escondido area Butcher Prime Rib
Thanks Cathy and Ela0427 for your input! I will give those places a call!
Escondido area Butcher Prime Rib
Hey Chowhounders,
The only thread I could find about a San Diego area butcher is
http://www.chow.com/topics/333288
Anyone have any additional recommendations for a butcher. I am visiting my parents in Escondido / Valley Center. I was thinking of cooking some prime rib. A friend told me they sell prime rib at costco. Is that true? How is it?
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
Google Map of Chowhound Ultimate Los Angeles Restaurants

+1 On the OC comment
Thanks for the map!
South OC Beef Bowl
Hey Everyone,
I was craving a beef bowl similar to what is found at Yoshinoya. Anything like that around here (between Lake Forest and San Juan Capistrano)?
Thanks in advanced!
Peppino's in OC
Hey everyone,
I'm curious how fast is the service at Peppino's. I usually take 30 minutes off for lunch. I usually have avoided Peppino's because I thought it might take too long to get my order. I'd normally would order something like a salad or soup ( usually will be quick ). Is it more of a sit down place?
Thanks!
Portillo's
Like some of the others I've only tried the Italian Beef and hot dogs... Now I'm curious about the burger! Yum!
LAwry's?
Some talk about Lawry's here also. Hope it helps!

Quick lunches @ Laguna Hills / Lake Forest
Tried out The Hat last week. I got there around 2pm and the service pretty fast. The pastrami dip was good and hit the spot. Sleepy time indeed.
New Phillipino Bakery in Lake Forest!
I did notice this place a week or two ago. I have yet to try anything there. Anyone try their enseymadas? What kind of sandwiches do they have?
Quick lunches @ Laguna Hills / Lake Forest
Awesome. I actually eat salad most of the time during the week then one day treat myself to something else. So that is an awesome suggestion. Thanks!
Quick lunches @ Laguna Hills / Lake Forest
Wow sounds tasty! Does that place have quick service? Usually anything BBQ related is slower then most. Thanks for the tips!

Thanks for the tips! NY Deli and Wahoos are in my regular lunch time arsenal. I will definitely try your other suggestions. What type of food is Nory's? Thanks!

Great! I didn't know there were any restaurants over there. Thanks for the tip!
Savoy (Alhambra) Review--Excellent
+1 on the Hainan Chicken and Tea! Agree with your description. I could eat that ginger sauce all day! I would put it on everything! Would drive from South OC to eat there again.

Haha Thanks for the tip about the fries elmomonster! I'll have to try that place out! I have seen it but haven't checked it out. Ever since I had the pastrami at Katz Deli in NY I have been looking for a good pastrami place on the west coast.
Best Prime Rib - Orange County (and LA)?
For my taste, I love Lawry's. Lawry's is the reason I started to crave prime rib. I have gone there a couple times and the food is consistent. When I have taken friends they have had positive feedback. When I visited some friends up in San Francisco. They said the place to go is House of Prime Rib. The setup and meals are quite similar. Throughout the meal though, I was wishing I was at Lawry's! Good Luck with your search!
Just don't fill up on the free meatballs haha!
Quick lunches @ Laguna Hills / Lake Forest
Hey Chowhounds,
I'm still rather new in this area. I work in Laguna Hills right between Lake Forest and El Toro Rd. I usually only have about 30 minutes to grab a bite for lunch. Anyone have any recs for places that have quick and decent food?
Thanks in Advanced!
Shrimp and/or Crab Sandwich or Melt
I like the Hot Crab Meat Sandwich at Harbor House Cafe. I've only been to the one at Sunset Beach. I usually end up going there and then do some kayaking to work it off!
If you end up liking it, you can get your crab meat sandwich fix 24 hours a day!

Where can I find the best crab cake?
+1 for Spago.. Although I don't get to have too many crab cakes I did have the one's at Spago. It was the most memorable course I ate!
