Maine adventures
Did not get to as many food places as Sweeney, but had a recent Maine adventure and wanted to add feedback. I loved Sweeney's long post. I have to go back and check on pie suggestions.
Spent two weeks at Harpswell, which is right next to Brunswick, also visiting in and around Lewiston. Beautiful views. Lilacs and kayaks. Great food.
Lewiston has a terrific bakery, Grants, which makes wonderful cookies and pies. Had breakfast at the Nezincot Farm, in nearby Gray, and brought home bread and delicious goat cheese. Warm delicious scones. We had lots of fun visiting chickens and baby goats with nephews. Magical.
Also, had dinner at Dolphin Marina in Harpswell. It was delicious, great lobster and the blueberry muffins are worth a drive from PA! Didn't have enough blueberries so also got some of their blueberry pie.
Several dinners at Fatboy's, an old time drive up in Brunswick, which was delicious and fun. Crowded with locals.
In Cook's Corner, next to Brunswick there is a large bookstore/cafe called Bookland. This was so good, as well -- everything homemade, and a crowd of locals. Chewy molasses ginger cookies -- superb.
Near Bath, in Georgetown, there is an upscale beautiful restaurant called Robinhood Free Meeting House. (Mentioned here on CH often.) The setting and the service were excellent, and the food was well crafted. Famous warm biscuits.
Lots of great restaurants in Portland, one the kids (and I) like a lot is Flatbreads.
And finally, there is a lobster, outdoor picnic table place in Cundy's Harbor -- Holbrook's -- which is near Brunswick and Harpswell. This was so pretty and the food was delicious. Harbor full of lobster boats. I hope that everyone goes there, because I want them to stay in business and it was my favorite. Like a picture postcard of Maine.
PHIL: DiBruno's brunch worth it?
I haven't been for brunch, just lunch. At lunch, the sandwiches and pizza are always good and the service is nice. It has a good vibe.
And you can spend lots of money on terrific cheeses when you are finished eating your lunch (brunch)!
Philadelphia Dessert help
The best is Varallo's which is on 10th Street. Everything is wonderful and it hasn't changed in years and years. Everything at Pink Rose looks better than it tastes.
Rae anybody?
We went recently and the food was good. But the music was really loud. And it seemed half empty on a Saturday night, not a good sign.
Best Bar Food for Pre-game Near the Palestra??
Pod is wonderful -- very fun, and great drinks.
Celebrity restaurant for out-of-towners
What about Chanterelle? Not a Food Network chef, but certainly well known. It is wonderful, just wonderful.
Sweet Lucys?
We tried this place. The food was terrific. I am from the South originally, and while Firehouse is not quite as good as really southern BBQ, Firehouse had really tasty pulled pork and chicken. People should try it. They are probably a fun caterer to use as well. Also the cornbread is good, and maybe that is why they run out. Maybe they need a big screen TV and some boutique beers to draw bigger crowds.

Did anyone send this recipe to you yet? I can scan it in and send to you.
L'Angolo v. Cucina Forte
Which did you decide on? L'Angolo is one of my favorites in the city.
holiday carmel apple in philly
Last year Wegman's had a huge display, not super expensive, and they were really good. I didn't see this year, has any one else?
Hamantaschen?
Was there a branch of Lipkin's in North Philly 20 years ago? They used to make beautiful braided breads. And great salt sticks.
LOOKING FOR A GOOD DINER HERE AT DE/PA BORDER
We go to Hanks often and we like it very much. Everyone there seems happy with food, and it is not smoke filled.
breakfast/lunch in swarthmore, media, surrounding areas?
On a Roll has really good casual food. I wish they had more space to sit. Great chicken ceaser salad wrap sandwich.
Court diner in media pa?
This shop was terrific. The paninis were excellent, and you are right about the bread pudding -- also very good.
Wildwood NJ vacation
Is Duffers still there in Wildwood? Also didn't there used to be a place were you could get lobster that was cut in half and fried. I thought that was good.

If you were here in Philadelphia then you know the Classic Chicken Salad with grapes and juniper berries. Really good, and I never see it anywhere else. Also the Oriental style wings in black bean sauce. Also really good.
Hazan's tomato sauce with onion and butter
Not to sound dumb -- do you leave theonion whole or dice it?
Thanks.

I second the vote for the Frog/Commissary cookbook. Best carrotcake ever!
Pancakes in Philly
I think the most fun ones are at Hanks in Chadds Ford -- lots of toppings and whipped cream.
