Christmas in Savannah
Thanks a lot - this is really great. We decided on Local 11 -ten on Xmas eve and Olde Pink House for Xmas. Does Green Truck have vegetarian options? We'll have one vegetarian with us.

Thanks for that. We will probably hit Al- Salaam for lunch.
So, new question. On Xmas day, looks like we have Olde Pink House and 700 Drayton to choose from. Any recs on which one?
The other place I'm looking at for a special meal is open on Xmas eve, but not on Xmas itself. Local 11-10.

Christmas in Savannah
I'm going to be in Savannah for four days including Christmas Eve and Christmas this year. My husband and I are adventurous eaters, and we'll also be having some meals in common with friends.
We're looking for a range of recommendations - places that are special (but not over-the-top expensive) for Christmas eve/Christmas ( Olde Pink House & 700 Drayton look affordable, but that 37 Elizabeth place does not) to just regular places that would be good for a lower cost lunch or dinner, Are there any good, inexpensive Chinese, Thai or Malaysian places? Are there any cool low-cost "ethnic" places you'd recommend? Is there any reason to eat at Paula Deen's place?

25th Birthday Party-Private Rooms, or Outdoor Gardens
yeah, I have the same question. My recollection re L'il Frankie's is that the garden is an enclosed space and very narrow.

hey,
thanks - I think Macondo would be too loud and party-party. I'm trying to avoid anything attempting Mexican food in NY because the Latin food in ATL is so much better - while the Italian food here is almost non-existent.

I'm going to be in the mayan riviera. does anyone have any restaurants they like and could reccommend
don't miss Puerto Morelos - tacos.com in particular.

thanks. It's funny then that someone kept recommending it every time someone asked for a bachelorette dinner.
Kid-Friendly (Without Being Boring for the Adults) Restaurants on the West Side
Hi,
I've been in this boat several times in the last year. My family likes places where we can get the kids in a booth with no ability to flee into the dining room. So when you're looking at places, you might want to just ask about whether they can accommodate kids.
LES dinner recs
for vegetarian, I like Counter, but it is a bit pricey. For LES, there are a lot of very good Italian restaurants that have good veg. food. the Frank empire (supper, frank, l'il frankie's) all are fun and not that expensive. Look for special prix fixe menus as well.
Oh, you've got to go to Moby's tea shop - teany.
Group of 13 for Bachelorette Party Dinner -- Need Recommendations
you might want to look at my earlier post on this board. There's been quite a few discussions of this subject here.

maybe it's what the name sounds like if you say it with a certain Itlalian-American accent?

hey thanks for this specific info. I thought of Boqueria, but $80/pp is too high for my crowd. hmm.

chowhound getting married yet another bachelorette dinner advice thread
So, I've been reading a lot of bachelorette threads here but still want to ask my own question and see what responses I get.
Here is the deal - I just moved away from NYC after living there ten years and my family still is there, so it's my home base. I'm coming back for my bachelorette party in May, for which I plan to go have dinner with friends and then go dancing after. Manhattan is probably easiest because I have friends from Queens and Washington Heights coming although the majority of the crowd is from Brooklyn. We are probably about 12 people, aged mid-30s to mid -50s. Something festive would be nice. If we were staying in Brooklyn, I'd probably choose Belleville.
I am 42 & a fairly serious (and long time user of) chowhound - my NY relatives have been known to call ME from the street to ask where they should eat dinner.
so here are my specifics: I live in "Hotlanta" now where the down-home calorific comfort food craze is in full effect and where Mexican food is far superior to what can be had in NY.
I like Italian, Spanish tapas, sushi, French bistros, pan-Asian. I'd prefer to be close to the LES or financial district., something around $40-$50 pp . I used to enjoy inoteca with friends, but I imagine it is too crowded and zany now.
Places I'm considering based on what people have said here are
Alta
Stanton Social
Kuma Inn
Boqueria
La Bottega - largely because of the possibility of sitting outdoors.
places I might choose based on my own old faves - Aroma, Artisanal, Crispo, Mermaid Inn if it weren't so loud.
Any other places I should consider? Downtown is better - we can travel east to west. Any of these you'd recommend over the others? How does La Bottega compare to Crispo?

Best Ethiopian in ATL - Desta, Queen of Sheba, or another?
I haven't tried the others, but have eaten at Desta three times in two months. Delicious every time!
Restaurant Week Summer 2010
I'd check these boards to see what they say about the generosity or lack thereof on the RW menus.
such thing as hashbrowns in NYC?
yeah, it's one of the few lacking things here. When I leave town I always hit the waffle house for some real hash browns, which many NYC-ers seem to think are the same thing as home fries.
Top Chef Masters 2 Ep. #10 - FINALE - 06/09/10 (Spoilers)
or maybe you just didn't like the food. Plenty of people still do. Red Rooster hasn't opened yet - ChefJune - where's your info on who's the chef at Aquavit now? I couldn't find it on the website.
Best Burgers in NYC.................
I agree on Belcourt. I had a lamb burger there that was out of this world, gasp worthy.

I agree - Yay Marcus! I've eaten at Aquavit three times over the last few years and every time it has been exceptional.

I ate at Barbuto last year because of the raves for Waxman. It can be good and the atmosphere of the restaurant is wonderful, but be prepared for a salt explosion. After my dining partner went back there with another friend recently they had to send their food back because it was so over-salted.
Great atmospheric bars for a cocktail?
oh yes on the King Cole bar. Then you can go to Aquavit for dinner after.

Last Hound Hurrah in NYC
ah the four seasons. In my NY nostalgia moment already - went there a year ago for their 50th anniversary cocktail party. crazy!
Great atmospheric bars for a cocktail?
both in midtown - Algonquin hotel bar, seriously old school; Bookends on top of the library hotel - but it can get very crowded with after work people.
I guess Pegu has atmosphere to spare but I can't groove to British imperial nostalgia.
Where's a not loud but not too fancy place for a group birthday dinner?
think about Chinatown - check boards to see what's good these days.
Best Italian For a Group/Birthday?
Aroma is wonderful and has private room space - I think it can be quite large or divided by a curtain. Call and check with them. They have a somewhat intense staircase down to the room though - so guests should be sure-footed.
I'd second Crispo as an option for a large party as well, though it can be loud.

Last Hound Hurrah in NYC
Hey,
thanks - I've been to Convivio when it was still L'impero and also Alto when Conant was still there. I've been to Perilla too, OK, but not memorable, in my experience. I'll check out SD 26
Last Hound Hurrah in NYC
After living here for ten years, I'm leaving NYC for a job in Atlanta at the end of June. Now it's time for me to revisit some old favorites and eat at those places I never tried before I go. For new places, I've made reservations at WD-50, Aldea and Annisa.
I've already tried (in some cases, numerous times): EMP, Babbo, Barbuto, Gotham, Tabla, Artisanal, Picholine, Di Fara, Shabu-Tatsu, Scarpetta, Aureole, Metrazur, GCT oyster bar, Blue Water Grill, Union Square Cafe, De Toqueville. I was non-plussed by the Momofoku Ssam bar, but I was a vegetarian then and am no longer.
So, where else should I eat before I leave? from spendy to street food, whatever.
Merida Trip Report
Sabrina's sounds great - we walked through that park every day and never tried them. Dang!
Nectar Restaurant Merida
just ate there on Dec. 26 09. The caneloni of pheasant and foie gras were fabulous, as was the 48-hour brisket. the sopes of duck were good too. Not so much on the tuna carnitas. The papaya dessert was also quite marvelous.
