I am looking for restaurants in downtown Philadelphia open on Thanksgiving. Non traditional preferred.
Water view/good food in Philadelphia
I ate at Bistro St Lopez recently which had a nice indoor water view and good ambiance. The food was though not spectacular- they are having a 3 course meal special for $20 which cannot be beaten. Service was pleasnat but very inattentive. After all that - am I recommending the place? I guess so!
Margate, Ventnor, Longport recs??
Pop into AC- think it is Artic Avenue- Little Saigon- a tiny Vietnamese BYOB which is out of this world- sort of a best kept secret- make a reservation-
Saturday lunch near Franklin Institute?
I would recommend Rembrandts and London Grill over Jacks- I have a number of really negative service issues with Jacks and the food is fair. Bishops Collar is also really nice.
Philly must-haves
Closest beach would be in Jersey, an hour away or 2 hours to delaware. I don't really think of Philly as an "ocean " influenced town though maybe others woudl think different

I have to say I have never been impressed with ants pants- seems over priced and small portions for brunch. I must check out Marigold Kitchen though.

Vietenane on Baltimore ave. is great- cheap and good food if you want to diversify. I was not impressed with Nan and I agree that White Dog has taken a down ward slide.

yello'bar on 24th and catharine are having an all you can eat crabfest on Aug 4th for $30. Crabs will be straight from MD. You can buy tickets in advance. website is yell-obar.com I think.
Looking for Philly BYOB Where 2 Can Eat for $70 or less
How about Melagrano on Lombard (?) and 22nd- def below $70 though no reservations can be a pain.
One Dinner in Philly
For Petes Sake does a consistent low key brunch. Sabrinas in South Philly (8th and Christian) is great but there is usually 1.5 hour wait. If you like nice cocktails with lunch try yello'bar on 24th and Cathrine fr something out of the way and not all egg dishes.
Have to say I was very diasappointed with White Dog last time I went(hubby got violently ill) though in its defence I usually like it.
What to order at Cafe de Laos
I usually veer more thowards the Thai section than the Laotioan- just personal tast- HOwever there is a chicken laotian appetizer that is salad like, spicey, bit of cilantor, bit of mint and great- Chicken Laab is the name-
On th ehigh end I had great stuffed shrimp there with a green curry sauce. You cannot go wrong with Massaman curry - it is regular thai fare but definitely better.
I used to love the fried bananas and Ice cream too.
Cheap, out of the way, etc. in Philly?
Try Cafe Laos on 11th on Wash and there is another Pho place there that is great.
For more of a bar flavor try yello'bar on 24th and Grays Ferry- great beers, good food and nightly specials.
I also like For Petes Sake on Front strret- consistently good food.
Vietnam in Philly - Gluten-free Choices?
I am not sure about the gluten free aspect but most of the servers are second generation so explaining what you want should not be difficult. I woudl suggest calling ahead and checking it out though

La Viola is a nice little Italian close by but is small - think it is on 16th street

Where can I get Schweppes Bitter Lemon?
Limonata is much different that the bitter lemon. Growing up in Ireland Schweppes bitter lemon was only ever used as a mixer for cocktails
Erawan seems good - why so empty?
The food is good there but I find the atmosphere a little lacking. Would definitely recommend Siam Lotus as a better option.
