Food trucks in Museum District

We are going to be in the museum district for a few days next month to see the Magritte exhibit. Are there food trucks around? We are looking for easy places to eat, not too expensive, but interesting (ethnic, local, etc). Any suggestions?

Are You Snacking on Anything Right Now? *Happy Holidays Edition*

Trader Joes minty dark chocolate covered marshmallows. these things are deadly. I did have a salad with passion fruit dressing first, just to balance things out.

Trader Joe's Yay/Nay Thread - November 2013 [Old]

Yay to the dukka. It is on the bottom shelf of the spice rack, but worth finding. My worst problem is not eating it right out of the jar.

The Grill at Hacienda del Sol review

Fantastic! My husband & I had dinner there tonight as part of Arizona Restaurant week. From the moment we walked in we enjoyed it. Our only complaint was the piano player, but luckily he had nothing to do with either the food or the service.

We were given a table overlooking the Tucson Mountains at sunset. Our servers were amazing, gracious and they never hovered.

I ordered the house-made rosemary and mint soda which was wonderful. My caesar salad was simple and fresh, my husband's gazpacho was great -- it also had simple flavors that were crisp.

Our entrees were Idaho trout and Poussin. The trout was exceptional, the poussin was good, but not great. We had caramel macciatto creme brulee.

We highly recommend it and will go back. The sunset alone is worth the price of admission.

My mole needs help

Thanks. I had a green tomato and it worked really well. And boiling it down a bit did as well.

My mole needs help

No, it has to be vegan. Not my choice, I would have started with turkey or chicken thighs.

Are there any decent vegetarian tamale options?

The Tucson Tamale Company ships their tamales and I think they are wonderful. I particularly like the green corn and the Tucson. For vegan choices, the New Dehli is very good. http://www.tucsontamale.com/Tamales.html

My mole needs help

I am making a mole for a staff party and it is flat. I used a high quality spice mix that has always worked for me before, but something is missing. This is a red mole, and I have added extra Mexican chocolate, cinnamon, and almonds. It has yams, rainbow chard, various squashes, and fennel.

Any suggestions? It is spicy enough, it just lacks depth.

Help - Mushroom soup bitter

I am making my favorite Hungarian Mushroom soup based on a recipe from the Old Wive's Tale in PDX. I always use part fresh and part dried mushrooms. I get a mix of dried from my local health food store and have never had problem. Tonight, however, the soup is really bitter, almost inedible.

Any suggestions on how to salvage a large pot of mushroom soup?

I will be staying in downtown Phoenix for a few days later this month and need some recs for inexpensive restaurants. Ethnic is good, vegetarian is good as well. We will not have a car so need something near the Wyndham.

I am looking for a moderately priced place with good food near the State House for dinner Friday night. Ethnic food is ok, and non-beef options a plus. Any recommendations?

I use it in salad dressing. Some mango, cilantro, passionfruit, ginger, something spicy, a little olive oil and some water. Amazing.

Good food near Salt Palace, Salt Lake City

I will be attending a conference in SLC in June, and am looking for good, interesting not too expensive food near the convention center. I know there are a lot of chains right there, but are there any other recommendations for both lunch and dinner?

HELP - meringue disaster

I think I have salvaged the curd by adding cranberries, all of which I stirred into whipped cream. We now have blood orange - cranberry mousse with hazelnut meringue crumble. Thanks!

HELP - meringue disaster

THis was the dessert that was never meant to be. The final blow is that I left the meringues in the oven to dry, then turned on the oven and burned the bottoms. The original concept was hazelnut meringue torte with blood orange curd. The curd it too sweet and now the meringue is in pieces. Any suggestions on how to salvage this dessert - quickly?

Dried Fig and Nut Bars

I tried it with dried cherries and apricots, and subbed coconut flour for the wheat flour. While the taste was great, I am done using coconut flour in anything.- too much fiber.

What did your Mom always have on hand, that you NEVER do?

Lipton Noodle soup with chicken
Cheez-Whiz with saltines
canned green beans
lard
a jar of cinnamon sugar
Wonder bread

I remember the canned beans having a horrible consistency - somewhere between wax and much. The lard was for making donuts. Cinnamon toast and noodle soup were constants.

Big Fluffy Pancake
