Seafood+N.O.Style Italian Recs
Try Luke. They have a fresh seafood bar and serve pannee veal with crabmeat as well as some other interesting things on the menu.
Help me turn my boyfriend into an okra lover
Secret to the Okra and Tomatoes recipe- pour some white vinegar over the okra- no more slime!

Here is link to the menu. I loved it when I went. It was worth the drive.
Large seated rehersal dinner
I went to a sit dinner in the Hilton St. Charles last week. The cool thing was that they had terrace upstairs for cocktails with a gorgeous view of the city. The food is all done by Luke, the restaurant downstairs so it had fun atmosphere and great food.
Trip review 7/7 - 7/10
I agree. i have been in New Orleans 8 months and can't seem to get my breakfast groove on. Went to Petunia's (granted Jazz Fest Weekend) and wanted to go home and fry myself an egg after the 2 hour wait to get in and 1 1/2 hour wait for food. Camellia Grill is my next undertaking.
Restaurant August Tasting Menu
JGrey, So funny you should say that because I was about to post that I have had the tasting menu and what I loved about it was that normally a tasting menu has portions too big and I felt great after eating the tasting menu at August. I would say it certainly is ambitious and you need to be up for a culinary adventure. I'm willing to go out on a limb and try new things andI I have not been disappointed. But one of things I like about August is that you can order things off of the tasting menu and not have to do the whole thing. It lets me have a little bit of adventure to my meal without forsaking my favorites.
Luke Last Night
Robertpw-
Any restaurant in the country would use the "we're new" excuse. If you chose to go to a restaurant in the first couple of months of opening you should expect that there will be issues. Great restaurants do not just appear they have to made and the process of making them can be bumpy and you have to work out the kinks. As for the "Katrina card" it is very valid that there are not enough servers in New Orleans right now. As diners we have to be patient.
Help. July 4 a disaster for chowhounds!
Luke on St. Charles Avenue is open on the 4th
La Provence
I ate there a few weeks ago. It was amazing. I had not been there for many years and was sad to hear that Chef Chris had passed. The place is transformed. Miss Joyce is still there which is great. The food was remarkable (you would not know you were on the Northshore). I brought my kids and they were in love with the new farm out back. Pigs, chickens, goats sheep and a garden. Steve McHugh is doing an amazing job. I wish them the best of luck. It was totlly worth the drive.
Luke Last Night
I dined at Luke last night and I had a fantastic experience. There were a few gaps in service butt he atmosphere and attitudes of the staff certainly made up for it. Everyone around us seemed to also be hhaving a great time. We got the seafood tower which was fabulous and fresh. For entrees we got the veal (huge portion!) and the hamburger. The fries were the best I have ever tasted (that is alot coming from me- I love my fries) . Overall a great experience. I did not get the hotel- vibe that others have mentioned. We felt well cared for and satisifed when we left.
Best in NOLA
I wonder why you would claim John Besh is not a great guy? I can't think of another chef who has done more for New Orleans since the storm. Seems like a local guy trying to good for this city should get a little more respect.
