Delicious dinner in allston, Brighton, Newton or Cambridge??? Suggestions?

Hi All!

My mom, sister and I have rented a zipcar to go to car dealerships in allston, brighton, newton and watertown tomorrow and I want to take advantage of the ability to go somewhere outside of the city. I am really excited but finding it hard to tell what is good out there. I would appreciate any help, thank you!

Criterea:

*DELICIOUS (type of food is not important. We like all kinds)
*Price is not a big deal, can go from $12 entrees to $28, quality is more important.
*Sit down restaurant with pleasant atmoshphere (no SUPER bright lights or loud bar people)
*Full bar preferred, although beer and wine is ok
*Restaurant that cannot be found in the city

I guess that that is it. Thank you VERY much!!! I look forward to your responses

Petit Robert, Kenmore

Still REALLY great!!!

What favorite Places do you go to because of Chowhound

That place is delicious- and good for her (she's a nice woman) for opening in an unconventional spot (although great that it's so close to MGH and beacon hill)

Best places for $50 meal for two?

Grotto is one of my favourite places in the city, however two people cannot eat for $50, more like $40 each.

I TOTALLY agree with Petit Robert's and The Franklin. You may also want to check out:

Ivy (downtown crossing, ALL bottles of wine are $26, the arancini and Caesar salad are SO good)
Peking Tom's (downtown crossing)
Brown Sugar (T-accessible, great pad thai)
The Border Cafe (fun and delicious Tex-Mex, not very upscale though, located in Harvard Square)
Bob’s Southern Bistro (South End, Columbus Ave, everything I’ve had there is good, plus they have live bands)
Teatro (Tremont Street, downtown area, pooh service, yummy food)
Sibling Rivalry (fun concept and place, ok food, south end)

Good luck- I think getting several gift certs is a very thoughtful and nice idea. Good luck!

Dinner at Clio last night

I have eaten there twice and was thoroughly under-whelmed both times.

The food is good, not great.

Also I agree with everyone re: the portions, while I don't care for, nor am I asking for HUGE family sized portions, there is a sense of the ridiculous with the portions I received on both of my visits.

I much prefer Mistral and Davios and find both consistent and delicious.

Tried Gordon Ramsay's London Bar yet?

Iheard he will be in nyc for the next 2 weeks, has anyone else heard this??? I would be so pleased if I could go when he was there!

Petit Robert, Kenmore

I haven't been to the one in Kenmore, but the south end location is great. The prices are very reasnable and the service is always great! Love it.

DC visitors looking for steak (that's not a chain resto!)

Davios is amazing!! Def check it out if you can, happy birthday to your bf : )

Figs BH- TOTALLY disappointing!!!!

I just ordered lunch for pick up from Figs and had the most frustrating experience!

No one spoke English, so it took 10 minutes to get my order across.

After waiting 25 mins I went to pick up my sandwich (how long could it possibly take!!) and it wasn't ready, after 10 minutes they came out with THE WRONG sandwich and without the salad. I just took what they gave me bc I had to get back to work.

I ended up with the chicken parmesan sandwich- The chicken was so dry it was disgusting and there was almost no sauce, so the end result was dry chicken on dry greasy bread for $10.

Stick to the pizzas- although with this staff, who knows what could happen!!

Tried Gordon Ramsay's London Bar yet?

Thank you for your help, I can't wait to go! although I laughed when you mentioned the risotto- it seems like it has been a bad-luck dish for the aspiring chefs on Hell's Kitchen : )

Tried Gordon Ramsay's London Bar yet?

I am a huge fan of Gordon Ramsay's (his cooking shows etc.. are great!) however, I have never eaten in one of his restaurants.

Has anyone tried London Bar yet? I have looked at the menu online and it looks delicious and not very expensive, considering the level.

Thoughts? Also, does he ever actually cook in any of his places?

Thank you in advance!

Wedding Reception Venue- Help!

I am so glad that to hear that- I have decided that I must choose a venue sometime this week and have been looking at a lot of places, however this seems best.

I just e-mailed back and forth with the owner Sam and have been very pleased with his feedback. Did they make you get the stations? I prefer to not have any stations, but rather focus on passed apps. I would LOVE a better look at the room if you can. you can e-mail me at foodforthought.m@gmail.com. Thank you again for your help!

Wedding Reception Venue- Help!

I am my sister's maid of honour and I have been given the responsibility of finding a venue in Boston, planning the menu and keeping within the budget. The following are list of requirements, I would REALLY appreciate any help that you may have to offer.

1. 100 people
2. Passed hors d’ouevres reception (no sit down)
3. A large and varied hors d’ouevres menu- with plenty of bite sized passed apps.
4. Open bar for 3+ hours
5. Beautiful room, would prefer to stay away from impersonal venues like hotels, although if it’s great, nothing is out of the question : )
 Windows, love light!
 Either sleek modern or shabby chic (anything fashionable)
 Bomething befitting the occasion, in effect, nothing too casual

6. BUDGET: $100 per person max (this must include tax, grat, room and any other incidentals apart from the band, flowers and the photography)
7. Also, if possible, I prefer to have the ceremony at the same location.

Please keep all rec's IN Boston proper.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH! All suggestions are greatly appreciated.
