Kendall Sq. burger?

Miracle of Science

On Mass Ave on the the other side of the MIT campus has a great burgers.

"Romantic" spot near Pru for drinks & apps

I'm looking for a quiet spot with a nice beer and wine list and good appetizers.
romantic is in quotes b/c I'm really just looking for somewhere with the right ambience for there to be the potential for romance. Not someplace that screams it.

Basically a good place to start the process of turning a co-worker into a co-habitator.

Thanks in advance.

Looking for a good place between Milton and Bellingham

I've eaten at the Noon Hill Grill in Medfield twice recently.
Great both times.
Apps were mussels, hummus and tabouleh plate, and buffalo tenders.
Also got a burger the other time.
On the corner of 109 and 27

The Quiet Man in Southie -- Still in Business?

Went for tips tonight.
Great as usual.
Plenty of shirts too.
Long sleeved green t's w/ claddagh logo. 2/20 bucks.

Savvanah Takeout - BBQ, Pizza, Chinese ?

Thanks for all the rec's.
Flyng into Charleston and driving down from there.

Savvanah Takeout - BBQ, Pizza, Chinese ?

Americanized is fine. I'm bringing him down things like ham egg foo yung and chop suey.
He's no spring chicken and I think all the Chinese places he went to were American style.
Authentic wasn't on the radar.
Thanks.

Savvanah Takeout - BBQ, Pizza, Chinese ?

My father, actually.
He's in Midtown I believe it's called. Near the southern edge of Hunter Army air base, not far from Abercorn.
However, since I now ship or bring Chinese food down with me anything in the Savannah area will be fine. Definitely willing to drive for the good stuff.
Places in the area that deliver would also be nice though.

I think the best sub we had there was from Lenny's. Anything better?

He's really looking for comfort food from Boston.
Thanks.

Savvanah Takeout - BBQ, Pizza, Chinese ?

Visiting Savannah next week and looking for takeout to bring to a person who doesn't get out much.
I've heard Saigon was good for Vietnamese.
Any opinions on Vinnie Van Go-Go's or Johnny Harris's?
Oh,I'd love a pecan pie rec, too.
Thanks.

Xinh Xinh, Greek Corner II, Charlie's Kitchen

Love the gyro at GC.

Cuban Sandwich

Castro is the authentic version.
Ricky Ricardo is the dumbed down Americanized Cuban.
Seriously, my Grammie made a great authentic Boston version.
Amnerican cheese on white bread. Grilled. Cup of tomato soup on the side.

Cuban Sandwich

Fresh lobster meat and a little mayo in a hotdog bun.

TD Banknorth Garden tonight

The Fours is the most convenient spot for decent food before a Garden event, especially if time is tight.

The North End and the Waterfront are a short walk, but with all the recent snow it can be an extremely slippery and unpleasant hike. Drive or take the T to North Station and go to the Fours, the Grand Canal or FlatIrons.

Quincy Dynasty, Quincy; Perks, Norwood; Amrheins, South Boston

I'l have to try the pancakes.
Has anyone been to the Sunday dim sum brunch at QD lately?

The Steelers fans may have been staying at the Westin or Seaport hotels.

Sending Chinese food to Savannah

Thanks for all the rec's. The hot sauce is a great idea.
I'll look into M King.

He's only asking for Chinese, so i'm not making any rec's for other stuff to have to ship him but appreciate the corend beef rec. i'm a fan of Sam's myself.

I thought freezing first would help if there were any delays or prob's but i may try it unfrozen.
Any other opinions on that?

New Bridge Cafe, Chelsea!

I'll take the Quiet Man in southie ovewr the NewBridge. Esp. if you're looking for a place in Boston.
I'm also always a little suspect of places whose signature tips come w/ BBQ sauce.
Good tips don't need to come slathered in a sauce.

Sending Chinese food to Savannah

Last time I froze the containers overnight and then shipped them overnight with dry ice. Great results.
I labeled the cartons so he could keep some stuff frozen and thaw others.

Any other methods would be appreciated..

Sending Chinese food to Savannah

I think the old man is talking more Kung Pao style "Sichuan." The shelfish/Sichuan combo even sounded odd to me, so i'll have to double check with him.

Thanks for the rec's, in any case.
Any non-Sichuan shellfish rec's would also be appreciated.
He's gping to be thrilled to get the old takeout stuff from Dorchester or Quincy but I'm hoping to include something different too.

( I just googled "Kung Pao" and the second paragraph of the Americanized version mentions shrimp and scallops so it seems this is what dear old Dad is looking for.)

Sending Chinese food to Savannah

I'm freezing and next-day mailing a Chinese food order to my father in Georgia.
He likes the neighborhood place and I mailed him a menu but he also asked about sichuan with scallops or shrimp or other seafood.
I don't eat seafood and am no sichuan expert.

Anything outstanding the board can recommend Chow-worthy of a flight to Georgia?
Any picks from Quincy places?

Dad will appreciate it, as will I.

Obsessing about the lack of good pizza in Quincy!

Last time I waited for my pie I sat at a small table. Neighborhood kids were at another.

Unless they've made changes there are a half dozen (at least) small ones.
Just for sitting down after ordering at the counter, no table service, if that's what you mean.

Sunday night takeout in Kendall Square?

Kendall Sq isn't the best spot for walking for takeout at night. You might try to find out who delivers to the hotel and make choices from there.

Paddy Grace from the Littlest Bar?

I ran into Stevie the bartender and he said Paddy was all done. Looked for a place but couldn't find anything suitable.

Stevie is tending bar at Nash's on Dot ave.

bargain?

Yes, good to know. I've driven by and been curious but assumed it was merely a grocery store.

Primo's on Newbury St.

Glad to hear that primo's still does a primo steak n' cheese.
They always had great cold cuts as well. Have to add them to the list.
I used to eat them back in the day and often with a beverage from the store next door.
Enjoyed plenty of al fresco dining and wining (OK, beering) at lunch in the park next door. I recommend it in the summer.

Boston rest. for 12 teenagers

By coincidence I ate today at the Summer St Grille that's just a block from your hotel.
Had a grewat wrap and my DC had nice steak tip salad. They have an extremely large menu (you have to wonder if they can do everything well) with lots of healthy choices.

Friendly staff and other coworkers vouched for the food.
Spoke to Roger, the manager and he said he could take care of a group your size.

It's in a large health club complex and isn't particulary Boston-y, but I thought i'd mention it as another option.

FYI, fellow hounds, full bar and seems like a welcome addition to the meager offerings in that area.

Boston rest. for 12 teenagers

The requirements are competing against themselves.

Your best bet is going to be to shlep the kids away from the hotel area.
Durgin Park is a good choice and the teens will enjoy the surrounding Fanueil Hall area.
The North End is definitely a change from So Cal. If you can find a Chow-worthy place that will take a party that size you'll be getting a Boston experience.

Pizzeria Regina is in the NE and serves arguably the best pie in Boston and definitely better than any pizza I ever had on the West Coast.
I've seen large groups there but never as big as yours but it may worth a call. Pizza only, though.

Another alternative for you might be to pick up a bunch of pizzas from them and have them at the hotel. I know it's not a night out but may work if moving the group is too tough.
It would be yummy and Boston-y.

As for near your hotel, the Chinese place Eastern Pier is good and very close but I believe is strictly Chinese, unlike other places that offer a few American dishes. It's also on the water. They could handle a large group.

Amrheins is not far away in South Boston proper. Although newly redone it's one of Boston's oldest restaurants and has good food and a varied menu. they can also take larger groups.

Near the Expo Center...

CF D's a good rec. Also the Avenue Grille on Dot Ave. Good old school neighborhood restaurant fare, friendly staff.

To get to the Grill take the JFK exit off 93 but go right. At the lights take another right onto Dot Ave and the Gille is not far up the street.
After dinner reverse your steps and you'll be heading straight for the Expo.

Save Us from Applebee's

I'm with you Brenda. I wouldn't normally recommend eating at Logan or Legal but the parents coming in on the holiday after a long trip makes it difficult to hit the road for a meal.

Driving from Logan to Chestnut hill or even the Pru after a long flight wouldn't appeal to me after taking a long flight.

JB, there are many restaurants, probably all better than Applebee's, on route 1 out of Boston. I'm sure one or two will be open.

Cheesesteak sandwich in Boston

While Boston is not known for steak and cheese, it's definitely something, like pizza and cold cut subs, that I think is done better on the East coast than anywhere else.
I'd rather get a steak and cheese here than anywhere in the country besides Philly.

D'Angelo's is pretty good and consistent. I always get the roll a size smaller than the steak order.
Makes the sub less bready and more like an old school one stuffed into the roll.

JB, can you try the deep fried steak stick in Lowell (Fried Steak Sub thread) and report back?

Save Us from Applebee's

Thanks for the clarification. Wouldn't catch me dead at an airport unless I was flying out of it quickly so I wasn't thinking about getting past security.

I'm not sure about the quality (or lack of) at the airport Legal locations. Just seemed crazy to drive to the Prudential or elsewhere after a long flight for a meal that could be had (possibly) at the airport.

Save Us from Applebee's

I had a great meal at Sake Japanese restaurant in Portsmouth NH a couple years ago.
Very quiet, great service by ladies in kimonos, and plenty of menu choices, like steak, for those not too familiar with Japanese food. I believe they have another restaurant on Rte 1 in Saugus.

BTW, I think Santarpio's is closed on T-Day, but it would be a great Boston place to bring the 'rents on their way out. Beats airline food.

Also, if you want to go the Legal route, (not the worst option on a holiday for chowder, etc)
there's one in the airport. Pay for an hour or so of parking and you could just eat there and head out. There's also a Legal Test Kitchen.
Finally the airport Hilton has an "Irish" pub, a restaurant and a cafe.
Wouldn't really recommend them otherwise but given the day and your needs one might work.
