Why should I buy tilapia?

Forget tilapia and buy swai, instead. It's cleanly farm-raised in Vietnam and is utterly delicious. Lovely, firm flesh with a clean taste and never a fishy smell. It's also quite inexpensive.

Best Take Out Dim Sum - SGV

Steamed har gow, shu mai, shrimp/chicken balls, custard pies and roast pork in an onion sauce. All mediocre at best.

Best Take Out Dim Sum - SGV

Since I wanted an actual take out place rather than going to a proper restaurant and then having to package-up everything, I went to Capital Seafood. Sorry to say it was not good. Lesson learned. Next time I'll go to one of my reliable faves and have them package it up.

Pizza Mozza, Patina, Gjelina and Spago reserved. Where else should I eat?

Definitely consider Water Grill for lunch downtown. In Pasadena, Europane for their famous egg salad sandwich is a nice light option. Versailles isn't really special enough to commit to. For your dinner mix you should probably considr Bazaar in Beverly Hills as another option.

Best Take Out Dim Sum - SGV

Need a good recommendation for take out dim sum this Friday morning. I'll be in Alhambra, but I'm certainly willing to travel for the best. Individual item recommendations also appreciated!

Why do you continue shopping at CostCo? I am underwhelmed. What do you appreciate about the warehouse store?

A tire purchase alone can justify the cost of membership. I just bought a set of Bridgestone Ecopias for my Prius for $388.00, installed including CA sales tax with their coupon promotion of $70.00 off. The best local competitive price was $580.00.

Fish and Chips

Most people speak well of the version at The King's Head, in Santa Monica. Haven't tried it myself. I have thought the one served at McCormick & Schmicks, in Beverly Hills, was quite good.

ISO Fresh Morels

Last year I got some at Costco. But it was fall, not spring.

Shakshuka?

Well, here's a link to a search on Menupages:

Umami Burgers....Worth the price ??

Their Hatch Burger is perfection on a bun. And their onion rings are exemplary. Some here may differ.

Cafe del Rey

I'm looking for a place with a nice patio for a Saturday lunch. Cafe del Rey seems like an obvious choice but in looking at some posts from last year it appears they lost their chef and have gone into a bit of a decline.

Can anyone who has been there recently post an update as to how things are currently?

First time to Fig---what to order?

Their tongue is very good.

Staying at Beverly Wilshire tomorrow night

Well said!

Staying at Beverly Wilshire tomorrow night

None of the places I suggested are stuffy. They're just very good, high end, and a great meal on an expense account.

Staying at Beverly Wilshire tomorrow night

Cut is in you hotel for a very high end steak experience. Also, of course by WP is Spago. Then there's the Grill on the Alley for great quality classic American fare. Mastro's is another great steak option. And you've also got Bouchon. All of these are an easy walk from your hotel. If you have a ride, also consider Craft. It's walkable but maybe more than you'd like.

Nam Prink Ong

I'm sure Jitlada does it well but am looking for other Thai Town suggestions and any possible places on the Westside. Thanks.

Keith Gilabert: Sisley Italian Kitchen is Exceptional fresh homemade Italian Done Right.

You've got to be kidding. I've lived a block away from Sisley in Sherman Oaks for the last 25 years. I've tried it maybe four times. It's among the worst shite I've ever been served. Pesto pasta with chicken and cream. In what universe is that authentic Italian?

NEED CHEF FOR DINNER PARTY WEST LOS ANGELES

You might also consider Stefan Richter (former Top Chef competitor) who is currently at LA Farm.

Where can I find a skin-on full fat pork butt?

99 Ranch, Sepulveda at Victory, has a very extensive pork selection. Good chance they would have it. BTW, I've made a great porchetta from a pork loin that I wrapped in a pork belly that I bought at 99 Ranch..

Westside/West L.A.

Trader Joe's carries French cornichons.

Armenian bread...

Jon's Marketplace carries a large selection of Armenian breads. They have locations in Westminster and Garden Grove.

Dinner tonight in (or near) Beverly Hills

On Canon Drive there are several good options, all of them within walking distance of your hotel. Il Pastaio, Enoteco Drago and Porta Via will all suit your criteria quite well. They're all on the same side of the street so you can view a few of the posts about them and then walk by them to see which ambience you prefer.

Ramen in the S.F. Valley

The place on Ventura near Van Nuys, Koraku, is actually decent. But, luckily for you, there is also superb ramen even closer to you at Rman Jiinya, 11239 Ventura Blvd. Studio City.

A REALLY HOT sausage..

The spicy Polish dog at the erstwhile The Weiner Factory was sold with the admonition that you had been warned as to the degree of heat and there would be no refunds. It was ridiculously hot! If you want to try it, The Wein is a food truck that is manned by the Factory's former staff and, presumably, serves the same dog. You can find them on Twitter.

White or Red, Which Would You Jettison ?

The best wine I've ever drunk was a 1977 Le Montrachet (an off year, btw). That said, unless it was Le Montrachet, red, red red.

Gordon Ramsay, Kitchen Nightmares. Do you like the show, believe restaurants are real..lol

I was on the episode for La Frite, in Sherman Oaks, CA. The restaurant had been there for over 25 years and had gone stale. I'm not sure it was ever very good. Ramsay completely changed the menu and the food on the finale (at least what we got to eat) was quite good. He returned in a recent episode and they said business had improved since his "makeover" but they had added a few thing back from their previous menu. In reality, they've gone back entirely to their pre-Ramsay menu.

For me, the show has become completely formulaic and boring.

Leftover smelt roe - what should I do with it?

How about stirring in some in some soft scrambled eggs?

DESPERATE NEED OF FOIE GRAS! Please Help With Restaurants...

Petrossian, in West Hollywood, recently ran a foie gras tasting menu. You might call to see what is currently on offer.

Pinot Bistro is Closing

Sad news for me. I always liked the place. They close February 19th, after 20 years.

La Bruschetta

La Bruschetta is also available on restaurant.com.
