What is your absolute favorite dish from your cultural heritage? Toast and marmite. |

Skip the Border. I'd take a prospective student to Charlie's where they will be hanging out and also to grendels. Not known for food. But still. If you want a nicer meal hit Russell House. Love it there! |

Where can I buy a tofu press in the Boston, MA area? So funny. That was my first thought. I press tofu between two baking sheets with cans of tomatoes for weight. |

I love Erbaluce mostly for the very special specials. Id sit at the bar and engage your barkeep to hear what's really exceptional that night. They are very knowledgable about the food and can suggest good wine pairings. The only ONLY thing I've been disappointed with sometimes is the pasta although I have a friend who will burn his house DOWN for the carbonara. If that's on the menu do yourself a solid. |

There's so much to say about goat boning. Where do I begin? Look for previous threads. I had another awesome goat stew this weekend from Highland Creole Kitchen. Bone in. |

Food: Fortune Telling and Superstitions My family's tradition too. Olde English custom of giving 'silver' when giving a knife. My mom gave me a gorgeous bread knife for xmas and pressed a shiny quarter in my hand at the same time. I'd like to know if I'm supposed to give it back to her based on your understanding of the ritual. |

Visiting Boston for first time-would love some Foodie help 'Neptude' HA! Don't know if that was a typo or Freudian slip. Either way I like it! |

April 2013 Openings and Closings Wow. That will be a LOT of burgers in Harvard square with Bartleys flat patties Tasty and one of my favorites at RHT. Not to mention lesser burgers at Charlie's Grafton Shays and the patty melt at Park. |

I'm taking my chowmom to rendezvous for mothers day. For the 6th year in a row. They always make her feel special. |

Where have you had beef cheek recently? Had beef cheeks last night at boston chops in the south end. Very VERY rich braised cheeks in a little staub pot served with two minuscule tortillas and some chips. A nice bit of pickled red onions and carrot on the side. Very nice seasoning on the melty cheeks. I'm guessing allspice or something. I wish they served 5 of those silver dollar sized torts and griddled em just a bit. Otherwise a delish coma inducing dish. |

Where have you had beef cheek recently? I had it tonight. It's a great addition to our cheek repertoire but after that and the complementary popover they give you I was stuffed! |

Local Restaurants Helping Marathon Victims Tonight So many restaurants and bars are doing heartwarming and pride-making gestures of support. Tasty was giving away meals to first responders and a few other places were giving coffee and nourishment to the people who were dealing with the aftermath. Who else stepped up so we can support them in the next few days weeks and months? |

Speaking of horrid looking lobster rolls I recently spied same at Charlie's kitchen in Harvard square. SRSLY this thing looked horrid. I like Charlie's for a beer and guilty jalapeño poppers but what gives on the lobby roll? Anyone had it? |

April 2013 Openings and Closings Good riddance. Hated sibling rivalry. I tried it a few times and just hated the vibe so much I can't recall the food. |

Friend just had one at grafton street in Harvard square. Looked perfect! He loved it. That food is always way better than I expect. |

Internships at farms and farmers markets and such I know a bright and savvy young kid who wants to get into farming. Yup. I know a lot of the farmers market kids are young and just learning the trade. Does anyone here know how a capable and lovely boy gets into this line of work? Any ideas welcome. He's a shiny penny soon to be farmer! |

At the risk of being too much of a Magouns fangirl I was hoping someone else would mention it. Their Irish breakfast is one of my favorite brunches anywhere. Eggs bangers white and black pudding Irish bacon mushrooms beans and a grilled tomato. With brown bread. Sooo good. |

Chinese restaurant Boston metro with a parking lot? Thanks gabatta. We do have little ones along so good to hear they will be appeased. I'm not anticipating great but after being housebound it will be good to celebrate with some lucky noodles. Long life. |

Chinese restaurant Boston metro with a parking lot? We punted and picked changsho. Big lot and a reservation for 10. I know it's not great but is anything especially worth checking out on the menu? |

Chinese restaurant Boston metro with a parking lot? Friends want to gather for Chinese food tonight but we are driving from various locations around the city. Looking for great food with a parking lot. Anything jump to mind hounds? Thanks! |

I was treated to a friends and family like preview of the food which also gave an insight into the service and FOH vibe. If what I saw there in their own dining room is anything like the resto we are in for some good times at Asta. |

Hounds, I fear we've blown up Doo-Wee Picked up chicken and rice today at noon. They were busy but not slammed. The plate was great and while I love the sauces on the chicken rice the thing I love most is the intensely garlicky salad dressing on the little salad. He should bottle that and sell it. I also tried the eggroll which I liked a lot. Nice crispy veggies inside a fried skin. No grease. I'm happy for Doo-wee's success and hope they continue to get slammed on occasion. They will work through it I'm sure. |

Seeking Hua Jiao! What dish provides the most mala (spicy + numbing) sensation? +1 |

Shabu near chinatown, not Shabu zen? That's the one. It smells great in there too! The lamb is very good. |

You do indeed seek a 'snug'. I think the Burren in Davis square has them. Can anyone verify? I love those cozy nooks too. |

Daddy Jones Magoun Sq, Somerville, now open. First visit. Magoun's has their own parking spaces on the side of their building. That's where I always park unless it's Sunday and I can park in the muni lot or on the street for free. Parking is a "thing" here in Somerville so I hope they can work with it. |

Daddy Jones Magoun Sq, Somerville, now open. First visit. Tried it finally tonight. I really dig the place, and the hard part for me will be deciding between Magoun's across the street and Daddy's where I will be a regular soon. Lovely bar, good staff, nice wine list. Nice vibe. My lamb skewers were cooked to perfection but the portion was skimpy. I asked to try the louganiko and they obliged with a taste in a monkey dish and it's delicious. Orange essence and char. The nice thing is there really isn't competition between Magoun's and Daddy's. They are really different spots, and my friends at both want the other to succeed in their genre. I wish parking was easier for Daddy's, but I found a meter space easily and you will too! I want all the Somerville hounds to check this out ... we need some cool spots in that part of our Ville and they are trying REALLY hard to make it a place you'd like to stop in on. I will definitely be back. Digga??? |

Fantastic rundown! I know at least a few quadi-scientific hounds here who will dig this post, besides me. Thanks!! |

Nice experience at Boston Burger Co. tonight Good lord I love this post. Thanks for the chuckle. Swank I'm glad you had a good experience. I'd wager those were jumbos beside you. We are typically nice and polite. ;-) I tried BBC once. And done. The end. |
