Copper River Salmon?

Just bumping this thread. There's a feeding frenzy going on in Chicago on Copper River steelhead. Wondering if it's back at the Candiac Costco?

TIA!

Bun rieu cua in Montréal?

I googled this title and didn't get anything on the first three pages, so I figured that it was safe to start this thread here.

This is crab noodle soup, a street hawker's delight, that one of my Viet pals was mentioning with awe a little while ago. It's here:

http://www.theravenouscouple.com/2010...

Does anyone know whether it's available anywhere in Montréal?

TIA!

Where can I buy pigeon in Montréal?

I'm just back from London, where I learned a couple of new recipes for pigeon. Unfortunately, I haven't a clue where I might buy the birds. Any suggestions?

TIA!

Takoyaki London?

Thank you both for your replies. And yes, I did mean izakaya. I'm American-Canadian, and izakaya is quite a new concept for us in N. America. And, of course, our interpretation is typically mish-mashed and not true-to-type. Hence, for example, takoyaki is a central dish at most izakaya-style places. Montréal's first pretty-close-to-being-authentic izakaya place is only a little more than a year old, and one of my students, knowing I like to try different food, took me there. "It's pretty correct" he said, "I can't wait to get some more takoyaki—haven't had any since I left Tokyo."

Different experiences on either side of the pond.

Tnx so much for your recommendations!

UK Equivalent of Velveeta Cheese?

As a fellow Velveeta fan, I feel your pain. However, this might prove helpful:

Takoyaki London?

Is there anyplace in London where I can get takoyaki-type food? I'm thinking, e.g., of octopus balls, grilled miso black cod, and the like.

TIA--

Izakaya in Marin or Sonoma??

I just googled for izakaya in Marin or Sonoma County and came up with zilch. I'll be leaving my belovéd Montréal to visit a pal up there north of The City, and hoped I'd be able to go visit an izakaya with him. He loves black cod, but has never had grilled miso black cod. Any ideas??

We're also going to spend a couple days at our high school reunion in Sacto, but, as expected, there's nothing but sushi and a few raman joints. Sheesh.

TIA!

Cafe Cherrier

I dunno, I don't get it: Cherrier can't even consistently get fries right. In a town where good fries are the norm, why does anyone *eat* here? Coffee, terasse, etc. Absolutely. But *eat*? Nevermore.

On the other hand, for very nice bistro food, Au Bistro Gourmet has finally re-opened for lunch: nice terrace, excellent food, decent wine list, $12.95. Can't beat that with a stick!

Copper River Salmon?

Some pals in our neighbor to the south have reported to me the arrival of Copper River Salmon. Does any ever arrive in Montréal?? If so, where? when? how would we know about it? etc.

TIA!

Eating out in Trieste

Long ago, maybe 15 yrs, I stayed in Trieste for a very enjoyable week. The best restaurant we ate in was about a 15 min walk from Zampolli's. It was top-rated at that time in Frommer's (IIRC), Italian food, the owner was a winemaker, made some dynamite wines, including a sweet dessert wine from the Clinton grape. I don't speak Italian, but he spoke German, which served us very well. Any ideas what the name of that restaurant was/is??

TIA--

Dongpo Pork?

One a 'one-night stand' in TO, my hosts took me to Asian Legend, where I promptly ordered "braised pork 'Dong Po' " In fact, unlike many versions, this one was red-cooked. I think it was awfully good: the fat was really silky, and made the rice exquisite. :) Also some what non-traditionally, they served mei ching choi, baby bok choy, as the veg, instead of what I take to be the more common broccoli.

You can't find this in Montreal, where I eat most of the time. So count yourselves lucky, TO-ians!

Moroccan Restaurant in Montreal

My favorite--North African, not strictly Moroccan--is Au Tarot: wonderful couscous, plus a couple of fabuluous lamb dishes. Most pleasant and welcoming proprietaire, plus BYO.

Korean Grocery/Butcher?

I'm looking for thinly cut ribs for kalbi. Other stuff, too, of course, but mainly that. :^)

I usually go to the Oriental markets corner of Jean-Talon and St-Denis, but I haven't looked for the ribs especially. Maybe they're there?

Lamb burger

Try it. It's a very homey, very neighborhood, very hip place. Breakfast ok, lamburger excellent, frites great too.
