Beer Pairing Menu?
Hello,
Scheduling a 21st Birthday Dinner for my brother. He's really into beer and the rest of us are really into food. I recall reading about some restaurateurs that have paired their tasting menus with beers, but haven't been able to find something like that in NYC. Does anyone know of something like this or, if not, a restaurant with superb food and an equally interesting beer list?
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: I should mention that one of the attendees is a strict vegetarian, so I'd need someplace with a well rounded food menu. Read: fine dining, not a pub with good food. Not easy...I know.
Grandma's Pies - Hartsdale - R.I.P.
Opposite side of the street from the Cheesery. Just past the Rite-Aid.
Grandma's Pies - Hartsdale - R.I.P.
Hit up the new bakery on Hartsdale Avenue, just up from the train station. Everything I've had there has been superb so far.
Recs for Blue Smoke?
Almost forgot - if you are a beer drinker, try the Blue Smoke Ale. Good stuff!
Recs for Blue Smoke?
An absolute must is the barbecue potato chips starter, even if you don't like barbecue potato chips. The deviled eggs and the sausage sampler are also two great starters.
I honestly think that Blue Smoke has one of the best ceasar salads ever, so if you're a fan, give it a shot.
As for entrees, just about all the ribs are good. My favorite is probably the St. Louis Spareribs. My girlfriends parents say that their fried chicken is the best they've ever had, although I don't find anything that remarkable about it personally. Then again, I'm not too keen on fried chicken in general.
Great place though, enjoy!
Gramercy - Not so vegetarian tasting menu?
Tabla also has an excellent vegetarian tasting menu!
Thanksgiving Dinners
Hello,
The family (10 people) is planning to go out for Thanksgiving dinner this year rather than the usual 48 hour cook-a-thon. Wondering if anyone has any suggestions for some place that will be serving dinner that night. There are two very picky vegetarians in the group, so they'd need to be accommodated while not letting down the rest.
Thanks!
Blue Hill at Stone Farms - what else is there?
They do sell their eggs and milk. The cafe has a small salad bar and they usually have three of four types of sandwiches. All are usually quite good, but then again just about anything tastes good when after you've done that much walking around. If you see plums there, don't miss them, best I've ever had.
New Restaurant: Poe on Central Ave?
Looks like a new restaurant opened up on Central Avenue. West side of the Street, a little further South than Niko's. Does anyone know anything about it?
Best Burger
There's also one in the Palisades Center Mall in Nyack, Rockland County. Great burgers, fries and chocolate malts!
Panera in Scarsdale
I know it's not exactly fine dining, but Panera Bread will be opening in Scarsdale on Monday, August 13th. It's in that shopping complex with Cold Stone and Red Lobster on Central Park Avenue. I, for one, am thrilled...anyone else?
Boston For the Weekend
I'll be in Boston for the weekend on business. Last time I was in the neighborhood we ate at Grotto and the Federalist, but I wasn't that impressed with either. Does anyone have a few good recommendations? Staying in the Cambridge area, but I'll go anywhere the T does. Anything works as long as it's unique and well prepared.
Thanks!
Eggplants
Must. Eat. Eggplants. No preference on how they're prepared or in what style, just looking for the best eggplant-centric dishes that NYC has to offer. Thanks!
Piave anyone?
The dinner menu was posted a week or so ago on their website. Haven't been there yet, but am planning a trip after nyc restaurant week has come to a close.

Special Dinner in Shanghai
I'm not sure they serve entree style dinners, but Cloud 9 in the Jinmao Tower is an amazing place to celebrate a birthday. The tofu squares are my personal favorite!
Ultimate Westchester Restaurants 2006
Really surprised that no one has mentioned Chiboust in Tarrytown. It's becoming one of my all time favorites. My Tops:
1. Blue Hill - New American (Pocantico Hills)
2. Chiboust - French Bistro (Tarrytown)
3. Azuma - Sushi (Hartsdale)
4. Harvest on Hudson - New American / Mediterranean -ish (Hastings)
5. Abatino's - Italian (White Plains)
Centre Street Quick Lunches
I'm interning at the courts over the summer and am looking for a few places in the area to grab quick lunches. Little Italy / Chinatown are a few blocks away, but there's far too many options and I'm easily overwhelmed... Thanks!
Di San Xian!
When I was in China, I came across this dish (Di San Xian) that's basically just fried potatoes, peppers and eggplants. Sounds simple enough but I can't replicate it at home. Anyone know of someplace that specializes in Dong Bei (North Eastern) Chinese cooking? Thanks!
