Burgers in Brooklyn

Prime Meats has the best burger I have had in Carroll Gardens bar none.

Need the ambience says "Wow! We're not in Kansas anymore!"

Have you been since the reopening/reno? It's definitely improved. Another place that's pricier but might be fun is Artisanal. They can seat large groups and fondue is always a crowd-pleaser. it's very non-Kansan, too.

For Chinatown, I'd suggest Nom Wah Tea Parlor. Dim Sum any time on one of Chinatown's most atmospheric streets.

Oysters (unshucked) near Williamsburg Bridge?

Maybe at Marlow and Sons?

Struggling to find a place for 15 people on a saturday night in February

Have you considered a Korean restaurant? Near the PATH and uesd to seating large groups. Madangsui is pretty good.

quick help for my friends BDAY TONIGHT!

I live near Smith Street and wouldn't call it lame. I didn't recommend a place in the area because for my taste the best restaurants (Prime Meats, Buttermilk, Frankies) either don't take reservations or would be a tough bet at the last minute. Additionally, I'm not a fan of the bars near those restaurants (Brooklyn Social is fine, but very crowded on weekends). There are many delightful bars in Williamsburg that are great for people in their 30s and 40s, especially once you get away from the Bedford L - St. Austere, Night of Joy, Custom, etc. etc. etc.

You could always go to Dumont or St. Anselm in Williamsburg and then head to one of the approximately 10,000 bars in the area.

Brooklyn For Dinner with 4 College kids

if you like fried chicken and delicious pies, Pies and Thighs is inexpensive and delicious. Not the fanciest beer and wine list, but it's affordable

If your schedule is flexible and you like oysters, hit up the happy hour at Maison Premiere when the oysters are a dollar each! get there early! great liquor list

West Village - quick and early dinner before concert

Time it right and you can get in a quick run to ino at 21 Bedford. Plenty of non-meat dishes and the wine certainly won't be a problem!

Big group on short notice? (But good, please)

I am a fan of Flea Market Cafe, a French restaurant in the East Village. It's tasty and not expensive, and if you get there before 7 there is a "sunset menu" that is excellent value. I think with a large group and some of their tasty house wine you will be set!

Inexpensive place near NYU

I happen to like Bar Carrera. It is not that far away - on West Houston and Macdougal. Not expensive. You could get a few little sandwiches or split some cheese/meat plates and get a cheap bottle of wine and stay around your price range.

Can I reuse stew liquid?

I stewed up a bunch of stuff that was going bad in my fridge along with stew meat, red wine and lots of spice. Yum! Now I've pretty much eaten up all the meat and turnips and bok choi, but I have plenty of red wine/broth humming along in my slow cooker. Is there any reason I can't just get some more potatoes and onions and meat and reuse the liquid? advice?

Anybody been to Firebird Russian Restaurant?

OK, this made me laugh out loud. Maybe Ninja for after-dinner drinks?

Sirtaj is gone

I may be the only one who mourns this little Indian hole in the wall on 26th between 6th and Broadway, but I went there for some of their delicious tandoori chicken this weekend and they were shut, with a For Rent sign on the door.

I will miss you, Sirtaj.

Kid-freindly mid to high end, walking distance of 1/2/3 or A?

I think Landmarc is the usual kid-friendly recommendation, and they are right off the 1/A at Columbus Circle.

Work Potluck - what to bring?

Maybe the salads from Xian Famous Foods? The Tiger Vegetables is cold so it should be fine to travel.

Thanksgiving alone?

There's a meetup at Virage for Canadians. Hey, you're an expat,right? http://www.meetup.com/NYCCanadians/events/38460862/

You could also consider looking at couchsurfing. There are often travelers and locals who want to meet up and eat out on Thanksgiving.

Have a good holiday.

Somewhat quieter/more adult bar in East Village?

I like Jimmy's 43 for fun grownup times. Very good local small plates and drinks too (I don't drink beer, but if you do you'll love it.)

Need your locks for GREAT Monday night (later) dinner at happenin' joint!

I think you might be able to squeeze into Minetta Tavern - they're showing availability at 10 that evening on opentable.

Dining in NYC with Diabetes

It might vary by time of day, but it's always been hopping when I've been there. anyway, with a group that size in a place that doesn't take reservations, best not to chance it. (admittedly I am paranoid)

Oh, Pylos could work too. and they do take reservations.

Dining in NYC with Diabetes

I think the Pub Room at Keens is too crowded for a group that size with a small child, and it has never struck me as toddler-friendly. How about the Meatball Shop? It's basically meatballs and you can get them with a salad too. It's also inexpensive. Or maybe Souvlaki GR - grilled chicken and beef, salad? The pregnant pal will just have to pass up those lovely pitas.

Lunch near Sixth Ave and Canal St?

It's at the top of your price range, but Aurora is nearby at 510 Broome. It's lovely and has very good food. They have nice sandwiches at lunch for under 10 dollars, the burger is something like 12 and the pastas are in the 15-17 range.

Essential BoCoCa?

Prime Meats is delicious for burgers. You must buy your mozzarella at Caputo's. And please do not call the neighborhood BoCoCa. Cringeworthy.

best restaurant(s) that's child and large group-friendly?

I actually think Artisanal is good for groups and children. It can certainly accommodate a group of 10, it always seems to be pleasantly noisy enough that the occasional childish interruption is no big deal, the food is delicious (in my opinion) and it can cater to most tastes. The kids might find the fondue especially entertaining.

Landmarc and Blue Smoke are other possibilities.

Which "nice" restaurants in NYC post calories on the menu?

Thanks! I forget about Le Pain Quotidien and did not know about Palm. can a one pound lobster really have only 120 calories? Screw BluePrint, I am going on the lobster diet!

Which "nice" restaurants in NYC post calories on the menu?

I suck at estimating calories by food portion, so I love it when restaurants (a bit nicer than Chipotle and the like) post calorie counts. I know Rouge Tomate does, but do any other good restaurants post calories?

Restaurant Week Summer 2011: The List

Thanks for the heads up. I had a fabulous experience last RW at Maialino, and just booked another lunch there. Also made reservations at SHO which I've been meaning to try.

Cattails!

Localvores and Jean Auel fans will be happy to know that Honey Hollow Farm has cattails for sale at the Greenmarket today, along with other foraged foods like wild garlic.

First Date, East Village, Degustation?

Concur with Jimmy's 43 - it's really cozy and pubby and not too overdone for a first date. (you sound like a great date to me - taking dates to Hearth and Degustation! Nice!) Actually, Klimat could work too. Eastern European wine bar/food.

Foodie group of 15 ppl needs a place to drink on a Saturday night

Look into Spitzer's Corner or the Smith. The latter is more of a pubby restaurant but you can order wine by the carafe, make a reservation for 15 and they won't care if everyone eats or not.
