Lenzini's Pizza in Sherman Oaks
The boyfriend and I just discovered this place a couple months ago. They took over the Pizza Rustica spot in the strip mall by Starbucks. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality and taste.
I like a thin crust with not a lot of toppings, and they do this very well without making the bottom soggy. We tried the whole wheat crust but it's just not good. Favorites are the Formaggi Pizza (A delicious white pizza topped with fresh asiago, creamy gorgonzola, smooth provolone and fresh mozzarella cheese with diced fresh plum tomatoes and kalamata olive.) and the Funghi Pizza (Portobello, shiitakes, plum tomatoes, porcinis, mozzarello, fresh garlic and thyme. ) although I'm not really eating meat right now so can't vouch for that. The different cheeses in the formaggi including provolone reminds me of Ohio pizza... mmm.
Given, I've only had delivery so can't speak for dine-in. But the delivery has always been on time and hot.

White Cheddar Popcorn topping
I agree. I like to grate fresh parmesan and fresh ground pepper on mine too...yum!
Casa Bianca vs. Antica Pizza
That made me LOL because it reminded me. Pizzarito always smelled like pizza and fruit juice because Jamba Juice was right next door, ew! I couldn't imagine eating there just because of that.
Must haves at Providence?
Agreed. I believe it is the pastry chef who is doing the "cocktails". Yum!
Loved the halibut on the tasting menu.
Why is Wendy's so much better?
I used to eat at Wendy's in Ohio all the time when I was in school. So good. The Wendy's out in California are all terrible. Yes, all of them. The chili is watery and they didn't even have hot sauce for it or know what I was talking about at one location.
Recipes to use Trader Joe's seafood?
Yep not so sure about reheating the seafood as well. I recently made some TJ's uncooked tail on shrimp marinated and grilled with some veggies in a grill pan. Then I topped that on some TJ's jasmine rice - very simple and fast meal.
Vegetarian fast food options
I have to agree with Loren3. CFA is definitely a chicken place. It doesn't make sense for them to have veggie meals. I would assume that where you find a CFA there are other options close by. It seems though that they have a few different side salad items.
Food Networks new game plan (from the ny times)
Seems to me that FN got greedy with the new batch of celebrities that didn't know any better and are taking bigger and bigger cuts of their merchandising. The original celebs have made cookbooks and merch on their own and don't need FN so the deals went sour. Just my opinion.
Weiner Factory Closing
I just tried WF because of this post. Had a regular dog with cheese and cole slaw. I know that sounds disgusting, but it sounded good to me at the time. Was delicious. The cheese reminded me of Skyline Chili orange cheese. And had the hot potato salad. YUM. I'll have to try this place again before it closes or moves!
Heart of India Sherman Oaks - nice
We went again and the fish tikka masala was very yummy.
LA Times' Michelin Guide Critique [Moved from Los Angeles Area board]
I enjoyed this article this morning as well. I think that the Michelin guide just will not hold the weight here that it does in Europe. It just seems like it was thrown together at the last minute. I'll rely on the Chowhound rating system instead ;) Not that I can afford those restaurants in there anyway.
Craving Matzah Ball Soup in Monterey Park
Do you like hard or soft matzoh balls? I prefer ones that are chewy in the center and have not found any restaurants that have those.
Whole roasted turkey to-go for Thanksgiving?
I know Whole Foods offers them but I cannot vouch. They have been taking orders for the last few weeks so not sure if still available.
Ideas for holiday gifts - local pickup?
Wow thanks there are some great links here! I have to say I was thinking of testing out Leda's for a Thanksgiving run (pumpkin cupcakes), but....
"Thanksgiving Schedule
We will be closed the week of Thanksgiving from Sunday, November 18 thru Monday, November 26. We will open again on November 27. "
What up with that?
Ideas for holiday gifts - local pickup?
Trying to be green here and avoid all the shipping for awesome mail order foodie gifts. There must be local finds for unique holiday gifts - things found only in LA that I can pick up locally and drive up to Northern California for the holidays.
I've been looking for something unique and found lots of chocolates and what-not from the east coast etc. But I don't know about local places like that. Ideas?
Heart of India Sherman Oaks - nice
I think it probably would have been but we didn't finish ours :/
Heart of India Sherman Oaks - nice
I didn't have it but the SO did. Says it was good but didn't knock his socks off. What is expected from a buffet basically.
Heart of India Sherman Oaks - nice
The SO and I tried this last Saturday for lunch. This is the place on Sepulveda that used to be Tufoon (sp?). Not sure about old / new owners, etc. and I hadn't been to the old place.
Anyway, the decor is nice. Warm reds, silky drapes and fabrics everywhere. There was some Bollywood music videos playing on the plasma TV behind the bar. Love that. Very cozy except...there were no other customers there. This place suffers from the construction at the 405/101, which is pretty much finished now.
We had the lunch buffet (7.99 each). It was a nice spread even though the place was empty. The buffet came with fresh garlic or regular naan at the table. The buffet had (what I can remember): basmati rice, red and green sauce, raita, rice pudding, veg pakora, tandoori chicken, chicken tikka masala, chicken curry, bengan bharta (I think, was eggplant though), dal or some lentil dish, green salad, sag paneer.
The tandoori chicken was very good, and the other dishes were solid. Could have been spicer for our taste. All in all though, not bad for 7.99.

New Whole Foods Pasadena to be Regional Flagship
I agree. Although the one in SO doesn't seem to have a good turnaround and the deli items look...sad by the time I get home from work.
Sugary Treats For Kids (No Corn Syrup!)
This may be too expensive, but what about those fruit packages I've seen recently? With cut apples or grapes.
Maybe fruit roll-up type things or sugar free gum?
grocery shopping at target? [Moved from General Topics board]
Agreed. Love all the thin crust pizzas.
food network: gourmet next door promo
Well, it's all about eyeballs. They wouldnt keep duplicating these shows (I think) if they didn't get ratings. I doubt they are aimed at the super foodie chowhounders, etc. We can just wait until Saturday and PBS for the cooking shows that speak to us :)
food network: gourmet next door promo
Yea it's the same reason they put them up on their websites for free download before they premiere too.
food network: gourmet next door promo
TV shows these days aren't about filling voids - they are about copying what works. Plus on FN it's more about personality than anything. Most of the time I watch a FN show I'm not going to cook anything I see on it, I just enjoy watching it.
But in the end, she was the best of the lot and won a competition to get a new show - it's not like she shopped it around and they bought it.
food network: gourmet next door promo
Not really, more and more networks are doing this with new shows to try and grow their audiences and create a buzz.
Atkins diet? Yes or No?
I haven't tried the actual "Atkins" diet, but I've gone low carb and hated it. Instead I choose carbs with whole grains in limited quantities. Plus I've heard if you don't mix carbs with other foods that helps....
But carbs are essential for me. There is information that it increases your serotonin level and thus fights depression and even helps suppress your appetite! It is especially important for women. Here is an article about that:

I know this belongs in "CHAINS" but I ONLY trust your guys opinions and recs. [moved from Los Angeles board]
I understand that chains differ a lot from place to place. When I lived in Ohio I loved Wendy's for the salads and chili. In LA, Wendy's is horrible.
Anway, just to add, I've been liking Hamburger Hamlet. They have a fresh made turkey burger that is very good.
And I agree with the Olive Garden salad and breadsticks.
Another report on Saturday night at Providence
Ugh they probably were sesame - there wasn't really any heat and they were salty. Well with his thick accent... sesame = chipotle?? Anyway, I wonder if I just invented a new candy!
searched but can't find it. How much is the 9 course tasting menu at Providence?
The server told us that even the 9 course had smaller portions than the 5 course - but it was a lot of food in my opinion. When we got two veal medallions each, I couldn't finish them, thought should have been one.
Marina Del Rey & nearby faves?
I always recommend Antica Pizzeria for Italian. Very reasonably priced and delicious.
