Great new things at North!! [Armonk]
We've got a reservation for dinner for Wednesday, June 6 (used Open Table). Yes my birthday was in mid-May, but this is the first weekday night that I had available. Really looking forward to it and will report back. Thanks to your enthusiasm, we're trying a place that's new to us!
Gleason's in Peekskill to open August 2012- from Birdsall House folks
Amendment: I checked Google maps--this place is right around the corner from Birdsall (okay, a couple corners), even more convenient to the Paramount. So, more options before going to the Paramount.

I got that email too--thanks for thinking to put the news on Chowhound. Birdsall has wonderful food (and an amazing beer list), and it's really successful. The idea of their expanding their offerings by opening an additional restaurant in a different part of Peekskill is really intriguing and a big endorsement of Peekskill as a food and entertainment center.
No meat, no gluten, no dairy. OH MY!!!
Caravan of Dreams is great! Vegan, kosher, delicious stuff even for those of us who can eat the things your sister can't.
It's at 405 E. 6th Street, smack in the East Village.
Josephina and Sushi a Go Go turning into what?
Thanks! I will miss Josephina. This place sounds louder and more expensive (not that Josephina was inexpensive).
Josephina and Sushi a Go Go turning into what?
Did a search and didn't see anything about Josephina's closing (which I'd heard about already). Was at the Met tonight and noticed there is similar brown paper up at its neighboring restaurant, Sushi a Go Go. Does anyone know what is planned for going into those spots? More of the Boulud empire?
Gluten Free Restaurants around Westchester
Right about soy not having wheat, but soy sauce (used in many if not most Chinese dishes) does have wheat.
My guess is the reason people (like, um, me) think MSG has gluten in it is that G stands for "glutemate"--doesn't that sounds like gluten?
Thanks for the clarification!
Gluten Free Restaurants around Westchester
Keep in mind that most soy sauces are not gluten free; any Asian dishes prepared with soy are suspect. And remember that MSG has gluten in it too. Have to be super careful in Asian restaurants (I don't eat gluten-free, but have a couple friends who do).
If you go to a sushi place, you can bring your own wheat-free Tamari.
Gluten Free Restaurants around Westchester
Umami in Croton has quite a few gluten-free options, including some that are available gluten-free on request (specified on the menu). The GF options are labelled that way right on the menu.
Great new things at North!! [Armonk]
There's no info on the website about days and hours of operation; the menu doesn't give one any sense that there are lunch hours.
Great new things at North!! [Armonk]
I agree totally! Any sound is terrible, and theirs made everyone in my family glare at me. Lots of links to learn about the lovely people involved in the restaurant, no info on days and hours of operation. Unwieldy menu with much repetition over the five pages. Luckily, MRS is such a good ambassador I still want to go.
I noticed the Open Table reservation availability, but since I have never made a reservation that way, I wasn't sure how trustworthy it was.
Great new things at North!! [Armonk]
Should be in a couple weeks. While my birthday is next week (note my handle), I'm working every weeknight from May 14-24. Since we don't need babysitters anymore, I figure going on a weeknight will make it easier to get in and have a leisurely dinner--so, looks like the week after Memorial Day. Seriously looking forward to the occasion!
It didn't look like North is open for lunch, did I miss something? I looked at the menu online, thought it might be interesting to have a lunch tryout.
Great new things at North!! [Armonk]
Thanks! I think it would be fun to go somewhere new (for us), and your enthusiasm over the past year for North is infectious. We clearly have similar taste in food. That egg dish and the soft shell crabs especially jumped out at me--and the pasta sounded amazing.

About how much does a dinner like this cost? Did you have wine or or drinks with it?
(I have a birthday coming up and this sounds like exactly what I'd want to eat)
Tired of the Same Old Westchester Saturday Night
Have you considered venturing north of mid-Westchester? There are many wonderful options if you'll expand your geography a bit.
Also, do you consider Port Chester to be mid-Westchester? How about starting with Inca and Gaucho? Peruvian/Argentinian food, definitely in your price restrictions.
Fun New Orleans Style Creole Place Good For Groups
Creole, on the east side around 118th St., is really fun. Good food, bar scene, live music in the evenings. Went there recently for lunch on a Scoutmob and would like to go back.

I guess I worded my question awkwardly. I have certainly seen plenty of drink menus--even at some pretty divey bars.. What I really meant to ask was whether there was something offensive or lacking in a place that didn't provide drink menus at the bar automatically.
My guess is you won't merely "wait" to go to this place. So many other great choices, at that price point and well below.
pretzel roll [Westchester/ Putnam counties]
Stew Leonard's in Danbury has them. Yonkers might also--I'm sure they'd let you know if you call.

Not that I haven't seen drinks menus (even up here in parochial Westchester), but I don't think anyone expects to be given them at a bar. Anyway, sorry you had a disappointing experience at this place--there are many wonderful restaurants in the area where you'd have none of these service or food issues. Not many with fantastic views and good food/service.
I'll defer to the drinkhounds if you're looking for fancy bar drink menus.

Just wondering--are there usually "drinks menus" at bars?
Rest of the review, mostly, is deeply disturbing. One thing to be careful about--if you're going to a restaurant that is in the suburbs, not one of the cities in Westchester, finding "housewives of Westchester" is what one would expect to find. Otherwise, bar scenes are "drunk guys whose wives won't let them drink/smoke/be at home" is what one finds.
Westchester date ideas
Peekskill has loads of live music. Beanrunner Cafe, Peekskill Coffeehouse, 12 Grapes, Division Street Grill, Birdsall House. Funky, fun, great vibes.
Agree on Bayou Cafe in Mt. Vernon. Calling it quaint makes it sound quiet, which it isn't! Little slice of NOLA.
OMG!!! H Mart is opening in Hartsdale, NY!
Jim, were you there today? I was there at midday. My friend and I had lunch at the food court and were really pleased. I had the soft tofu and seafood soup from the Korean stand. It was freshly made, delicious, and served in the pot that the soup was cooked in. Came with a side of kim chi, white rice, and a scoop of room temperature mashed potato with vegetables (is this typical Korean? was new to me). All for $7.95. My friend had hand-pulled noodles, the first thing on the Chinese menu, which came with a side of pickles. She really liked it, but it didn't look like the photo next to the dish on the menu.
May late lunch/early dinner for 18 in Yorktown/Mahopac/Mt Kisco...
Thanks so much for this report! Now I'll have to check out the pizza place and the yogurt one (didn't realize it had opened yet).
After your big party, you can go to Gaudio's sometime. They also have two different prix fixe lunch specials, including for $12.95 you have soup or salad, main course, coffee or tea, and half price cocktail(s?). There's also one for $9.95 with side salad and main course. There are more main course selections with the first one.

Yep, that's the place. Some parking in front, lots in the back. Building also houses--at completely other end--Sue and Hai, a Chinese/Japanese place that my son favors.

How does eating at Gaudio's feel like a diner? Cloth tableclothes and napkins even at lunch? All separate tables, no booths. Attentive waiter service. Full bar.
I'm starting to wonder if I've been to a completely different restaurant!

wincountrygirl is absolutely right--the photos on the website are not of Gaudio's. It's a badly designed and executed website visually. If you drop them a note, maybe they'll take some photos and send them to you.
BTW, please don't misunderstand--I'm not saying this is the best place to eat ever nor is it worth a big trip if one is only going for food; it is, however, a comfortable and nice place to eat, in the area you're looking for, reasonably priced, and might not already be booked during this busy time you're looking for space for 18 people.

Gaudio's is a nice restaurant. It has a two rooms, one is a bar with smaller tables, the other is a formal dining room. It is not a pizza place!
The same owners have a place nearby called Three Brothers Brick Over Pizza. It is a completely separate restaurant and actually I wasn't even aware of it (I've probably passed by, but it's not something I would have been looking for) until I checked the website just now for you.
I first went to Gaudio's with friends who wanted a place where they could have martinis with dinner. Had the best eggplant rollatini I've ever encountered.

Gaudio's is not a pizza place. It's a lovely small Italian place. You are probably thinking of another restaurant.
